Black Eye Peas are a traditional New Years Eve recipe addition because they signify good luck! Here is a black eye pea dip recipe with bacon that is soooo good you will want to make it all year long!
“Eat poor on New Year’s, and eat fat the rest of the year.”
This is a southern tradition that has many stories as to how it started. The one that I have always heard is also the one wiki states.
When Union troops, especially in areas targeted by General William Tecumseh Sherman, typically stripped the countryside of all stored food, crops, and livestock, and destroyed whatever they could not carry away. At that time, Northerners considered “field peas” and field corn suitable only for animal fodder, and did not steal or destroy these humble foods.
In the Southern United States, the peas are typically cooked with a pork product for flavoring (such as bacon, ham bones, fatback, or hog jowl), diced onion, and served with a hot chili sauce or a pepper-flavored vinegar.
Try some yummy Black Eye Pea Dip tonight as part of your celebration!

We skipped Sunday making cookies as my family was about to kill me. Never thought they would be sick of cookies!
We made Snowball cookies today, and I forgot how good these are! Make them smaller so you don’t feel so bad eating the entire plate!
My first batch was a little dry, so I added a little more butter. I think mine was too cold the first time around.
These are so traditionally Christmas for me, I forget I can make these anytime!
Ingredients
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar
1 tsp McCormick pure vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup finely chopped nuts (optional, but recommended)
Directions
1. Mix butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla thoroughly.
2. Stir flour and salt together; blend in. If adding nuts, mix those in as well.
3. Roll dough in 1-inch balls, and place on ungreased baking sheet.
4. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400 degrees, or until set but not brown.
5. While still warm, roll in powdered sugar. Cool completely, and then roll in powdered sugar again.

This is the 4th day of our Christmas cookie fun! These were fun and darling little cookies to make! Very easy and you can make any cookie to have the snowman on. I made a chocolate peanut butter. You can do a sugar cookie if you want!
I had some sprinkles left over from Halloween and used those as the eyes and nose. Reeses peanut butter cups, the small bell ones were cut in half for the hat.
Melted almond bark makes the melted snowman part.
ingredients
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl beat shortening and peanut butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Beat in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk, and vanilla until combined. Beat in the cocoa powder and as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour.
2. Shape dough into twenty 1 3/4-inch balls. Place balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until edges are just firm. Cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.
4. Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. Place cooled cookies on prepared baking sheet. In a medium microwave-safe bowl microwave candy coating on 50% power for 2 1/2 to 3 minutes or until melted and smooth, stirring every 30 seconds. Spoon melted coating over each cookie to cover cookie and resemble melted snow. While coating is still tacky, add a peanut butter cup for a top hat and decorate with sprinkles or other candies to resemble snowman faces (If using frosting to make snowman faces, add it when the candy coating is dry.) Let stand until set.

We are on our 3rd day of the 12 days of Christmas cookies. I am not sure what I was thinking as I was hoping to lose weight this month and NOT gain it.
Today I made Cherry Chocolate Kiss Cookies and they turned out awesome. The last 1/2 I added chopped up pecans and they were even better!
This is one I was glad I made when the kids were around! I needed them to unwrap the kisses, HOWEVER, I should have bought another jar of cherries as it was all I could do to keep them from eating them all!
They really were AWESOME when they were done. Give these a shot!
* I made another kind of cookie today and I can’t wait for you to see them!! I know it is the weekend, but make sure to stop by tomorrow and see them, they are cute!
Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons maraschino cherry juice
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherry
48 Hershey cherry cordial chocolate kisses
granulated sugar
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a mixing bowl beat butter for 30 seconds on med-high speed. Add powdered sugar and salt beating until combined (scrape sides of bowl). Beat in the cherry liquid and almond extract. Beat in as much flour as you can then use a spoon to mix any remaining flour and the chopped cherries.
2. Roll dough into 1 inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Using the bottom of a glass dipped in granulated sugar, flatten the balls until they are about 1/2 inch thick. Bake 14 minutes or until bottoms are light brown. Right away place a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
