Tonight as I was in Kroger frantically trying to make sure I got all the unadvertised mega event deals, I rounded a corner and saw a man taking peelies off all the Planters Peanuts. For a second I thought he was an employee, he was wearing dark blue slacks and a button up shirt.
I asked if he was taking peelies and he said yes.
“Do you want some?” he asked me.
“No, I only take them off if I am buying the product.” I said, irritated.
Then I informed him that taking peelies is stealing and that it is illegal in many states. As a peelie, once on a product is considered part of the product. It would be as if you were stealing the entire product.
He didn’t care. He walked away and started looking at all the coupon books in the display that was next to the peanuts. He saw me watching him and walked down an aisle. I looked at the peanuts and he had taken almost 30 peelies.
Not 1 minute later, I saw him walking down more aisles STEALING ALL THE COUPONS OFF THE TEAR PADS!! I am seriously pissed at this point and walk up front to find a manager. I grabbed Kathy (who is AWESOME) and let her know what is up. She marches over to him and let’s him know he is stealing and that he can’t be in the store when he is not purchasing something.
Then you know what the coward does? He doesn’t say a word and makes a beeline, almost running, out the front doors of the store.
If you are a reader of MyLitter, do NOT come back to this blog. This is a blog for ethical couponers, who are not greedy and selfish. Do NOT come here for FREE information, and in turn hurt all the others who shop in the same stores as you.

Go Tiffany!! People like that are so horrible! I’m glad you stood up and said something.

I really hope this jerk is a reader and see’s this post!!! People like him give all of us ethical couponers a BAD NAME!!! And are making it harder and harder for us to get good deals and save $$$ for our families… I wish I would have been with you I would of tackled his A$$ and taken all the peelies from him 🙂 lol THANK YOU Tiffany for sticking up for the right thing and for everything you do for all of your readers

Thank you Tiffany. I shop for a family of 12 and even I don’t take more than I am buying. Whether it is peelies, tearpads, or printing more than the limit allows; it all hurts us who need coupons to help save money for shopping for the necessities we need. I had used the Dollar General coupon and the manufacturer coupon for the all detergent a couple of years ago. I bought two. The cashier told me that a lady bought 40 detergents the night before. I thought what on earth will you do with 40 detergents.
Jennifer says
oops, weeks ago not years.

I bought 12 detergents one day and came back a few days later for 10 more. The cashier seemed upset until I explained I was buying for a few families and the clothes closet that our school supports. They receive clothes but not detergent to help the families. Forty does seem excessive but you never know if they are helping out others in the community. And, of course, I waited days in between to make sure others had the opportunity to get the deal. Thanks!

No wonder I never find the peelies and tear pads everyone talks about! Way to Tiffany!

You go girl! My hubby works for a small box retailer similiar to WM (not DG). Last year the Borden’s rep left several tear pads for the employees for FREE cottage cheese & sour cream. We kept some, gave some to family and the rest I played coupon fairy at WM, Kroger & Hodges.

People who don’t follow the rules don’t follow blogs 🙂 But I am so glad you went to the manager about it, its not fair! There are apparently some people who don’t follow the code of couponing in my neck of the woods and it just drives me nuts. Always taking all the products off the shelf, stealing the peelies, taking all the ones off the tear pads ( and I know they are because I shop one store religiously and know that they haven’t been there even a day!) It’s also bothersome to me to see people who litter there out of date coupons all over the store…mostly bc i get all excited, and then realize it expired two months ago!

If he coupons, & he was in the same store as Tiffany….if he doesn’t follow this blog then the person he was snagging them for does. All Houston shoppers follow this blog. She should have taken how picture & posted it!
I know what you mean about those trashed coupons. LOL. I get excited too.

Whenever I see the tear pads or blinkies, I always wonder what is an appropriate amount of coupons to take. I usually limit myself to two since that is what I would get if I was printing them, but if it’s a really good one, I’m sometimes tempted to grab a few more. What do you guys think? What is an okay number?
Tanya says
Amen, sister!! WTG! That was really unfair of someone to do. Glad you called him out on it.

I know a few couponers who follow you that do this and pretty much try to turn EVERY coupon into a moneymaker by NOT getting the right products and clearing shelves. Please tell them to STOP IT already. READ the coupon and get the right products! And quit throwing more coupons than you have products! Some people pick what they want and then wonder why they have trouble at checkout.

Next time you should take a video with your cell phone and then plaster it on every couponing blog you can find. I’ve found that public humiliation works wonders. Perhaps your store could post that persons picture around the store with a sign saying “stealing peelies and other coupons is illegal”. Let that person be the “poster child” of the stores anti-theft policy. That’s exactly what the theif deserves.
Tiffany says
Oh yes! I trying to get one, there was a Mom and kid that kept getting in the way and she was looking at me like she was just not sure! I didn’t want to get her kid in a picture ( although I would have edited it out) but he was avoiding me also. I was Really hoping to plaster his pic all over the place!

Oh my that is crazy. People dont have any shame, I tell you. I saw that happen one time at my Acme store, I believe it was for kraft cheese, I looked at the lady and then she just walked away. Don’t understand why people have to be so greedy.

Tiffany I love your website. You were 100% right to talk to the manager. I see other coupon websites saying to use peelies and tear pads to get deals and when questioned where they got the peelies or the tearpads for the product they state that they were from a different store. This to me is stealing. No wonder they are getting all of these things for free. They are stealing and taking all the coupons for themselves.
Holly says
Good job thanks for standing up for what is right….it makes it so had to coon when there are jerks like that outnthere giving coupling a bad name!!!!
Renee says
Yeah Tiffany! I’m loving the honesty. Thank you for sharing. We have all been there at one time and it’s great you are speaking for all of us who will be affected!

I agree it makes me mad when I see people do that and also when they clear a shelf.

This irritates me beyond all!! Last week I purchase my cereal and it has a wonderful peelie on it. I’ll purchase 2 and come back over the weekend to buy some more. Then all the peelies are gone. It’s so irritating. With hangtags at my grocery store (military store) I take 2 coupons off the rip pads becuase it is an epidemic that they put out a rip pad and someone just takes the whole darn thing. There’s also a coupon clipper in my town and she is sells the peelies, tearpads, and Mail in rebates found on the products. Kinda turned me off to buying from her.

I hate peelie thieves almost as much as bloggers who steal deals from other blogs without credit!
Tiffany says
That completely makes me crazy! My poor husbands deals and pictures are stolen all day long and there is nothing you can do about it! 🙁

Thanks for taking a stand!

I was at an Extreme Couponing class this weekend, the lady told people in the class to take the whole stack of peelie coupons, she also taught everyone in the room how to use a $7 procter and gamble crest coupon on any other proctor and gamble product. For every piece of good coupon information, she gave four bad. Very disappointed…………….
