For Easter I thought it would be fun to make a special treat just for the kids….
I stalk, I mean follow another blog called The Girl Who Ate Everything, and saw her make these darling rainbow cupcakes. I thought they would be perfect for Easter. Of course I made another dessert for the parents, but I think we all wanted a piece of these!
I was so careful filling the cupcakes so they were perfect and the recipe made just enough. I baked them and was letting them cool so I could frost them, when I heard a chair sliding across the kitchen floor.
“Rush, put the chair back!” I yelled. Then I thought I heard the chair slide back to the table.
I was wrong.
I happened to walk by a few minutes later. This is what I found…
In true Seinfeld fashion (see the muffin top episode) he had eaten the tops off 3 of my cupcakes! I only had just enough as it was! Oh Well, the boys got a different treatThis is what they looked like when they were done and displayed.

Use food coloring to color batter to desired intensity. Wilton brand gel colors have the brightest colors and wont thin your batter. They can be found at Walmart or Michaels.
To get a layered stripe like I used, you’ll want to put a spoonful of each color in the cupcake one at a time. The batter is thick, so it won’t spread on it’s own. A great tip is to set out a little bowl of water where you’re working. Dip your finger in the water and then gently spread the batter out. The water will make it so the batter doesn’t stick to your fingers.
Another tip is to use a measuring spoon and some water to measure out how many teaspoons/tablespoons are going to fit in your cupcake. Then divide that by how many colors you have so you know how much of each color to use for each cupcake. For my 5 colors, it worked out perfectly with 2 t of each color in each cupcake. So I put in 2 t of blue in the bottom of each cupcake and spread it out with my finger. Then I put in 2 t of green on top of that, then yellow, etc.
Bake them according to the package directions, until a toothpick comes out dry.
Frost with your favorite frosting. If you had to use store bought like me, fancy it up by putting the frosting in a ziplock bag. Cut of the corner of the side of the bag and you have an instant frosting decorating bag.

I personally LOVE malt flavor. I was also seriously craving cookies. A while back Neslte had sent me some coupons for Ovaltine and I picked up a can of the malted flavor. We drank it all, then picked up another one, then another one….
It felt like fall out and so it seemed appropriate for some reason to me to make cookies and experiment a little with the Ovaltine. I actually came up with this recipe on my own!
Malted Chocolate Ovaltine Cookies
By: Mylitter
In a large bowl beat shortening and brown sugar. Add Ovaltine, vanilla and egg. In separate bowl mix flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture, stir in chocolate chips. Drop cookies onto cookie sheet, bake at 375 for about 12 minutes. Let cool on sheet and remove.
The flavor is really good I think because of the shortening, they are crisp on the edges and soft in the middle! The Ovaltine provides just the right amount of chocolate and malt flavor, plus adds the extra nutrients.
I would love to give 4 readers a coupon for a free can of Ovaltine from Nestle for you to make your own cookies! Leave me a comment telling us if you have tried Ovaltine before and the kids will pick 4 winners on Tuesday after school.
The fine print: Nestle provided me with Ovaltine to try and with coupons to give to my readers. These opinions are my own and if I hated the stuff I would tell you!
