I have a little rant going on here direct at Facebook and FreeFly’s! In the picture above sent to me by my friend and blogger Bargain Briana, it appears that I “like” and recommend FreeFlys. I don’t.
Years ago I *might* have said they were ok…. but that was a long time ago. They are really spammy now, in my opinion, and I am not actually sure that you get any of the items that they say you do for free. Or at least people I know have not ever gotten anything from them but spam.
Just a heads up, that isn’t a status update from me!

Did you try to go the page and ‘unlike’ it? That could keep your name from being associated with the page, I would think?
Tiffany says
I can’t, I have tried. I never liked it in the first place. There is no place for me to unlike it.
Tish says
I have seen it happen when a page changes it’s name. That happened to me a couple of times. There generally isn’t a visible unlike button … If you go to the page and see that it says “Liked” at the top, you can usually click that box and it gives you the option in a drop down box to unlike from there. That’s what I did. If that doesn’t work … I have no idea. It’s crazy that they could be allowed to hijack your name like that! Not cool!

Isn’t this exact issue the reason for the FB lawsuit? I seem to remember FB losing a lawsuit or being sued for using people in this type of advertising without knowledge and/or permission of the person? I don’t have time to check it out now, but this was just in the news in the last month or so. I would send the photo to FB and report it. Maybe they can fix this issue. (FYI- Nope, never received anything from FreeFlys either so I unsubscribed).

Tish – This is happening to people when they have never liked the page. I’ve noticed this often and sometimes it’s dirty joke or nasty Facebook Pages saying that my mother in law or my husband liked it and they have never even heard of it.
If anyone knows how to turn this off, I would love to see instructions as I don’t want people to think I’m liking certain things that I’m not!

Agreed!!! I’ve had people ask me about it as well. They are spam central!
ShannonQ says
I keep seeing this as liked by my friends and I have to tell them to stay away. They are totally spammy. I reported them as spam to facebook.

I’ve been noticing that as well and I’ve got to say Facebook is really getting good at producing spam. Drives me nuts with all the sponsored items and likes from companies thrown in on your news feed. I guess it’s their way to make up for the money they lost when they went public.

you need to edit your permission on FB again, it might still be “allowed” from an older use.
They are SPAMMY and no, I do not know of anyone actually getting product.
Ruby says
Super glad I didn’t actually ‘like’ them as I was going to…I have enough spammer things from my email to deal with! Thanks for setting the record straight!
Nicole Elliott says
Thanks for the heads up! They must have dumped a bucketload on FB advertising because I saw this same thing for several of my friends and I signed up and now am getting spammed…grrr
megan says
tried them out for a few weeks and never received my samples or coupons….just a bunch of spam in my email. 🙁 I’d recommend everyone to stay away from them.

i haven’t been on Facebook for the past year or so, but I can look at pages. I can’t stand some of the changes I’ve heard about.
I tried to search a little about this problem and found

So even if you just complain about a site, it could backfire?
