There is going to be a new Kroger Coupon Policy 2014 happening at the end of August. Currently we don’t have an official copy of the coupon policy. What we have is a memo sent internally to manager letting them know how to implement the new policy change. I am assuming this memo was not intended to be handed out, although it was.
The new Kroger coupon policy seems to be VERY coupon friendly and VERY generous. They are making a HUGE effort to be more coupon friendly and accept more coupons.
- No Limit on coupons.
- Customer buys the item, they take the coupon.
- Stay consistent with the policy, take all legitimate coupons.
- Don’t look for expiration dates, the store will get credit.
- Kroger will accept competitor Catalina Manufacturer coupons.
- Kroger will accept competitor manufacturer coupons.
Basically Kroger Corporate is accepting the loss of the expired coupon themselves… The store itself will still get credit.
It appears that there will not be a limit on the number of coupons you can use in a transaction. It also appears that they will be very generous as far as taking expired coupons.
This to me is ABSOLUTELY Kroger going after Walmart…. who is their only major competitor. This new policy CAN NOT BE ABUSED. They will take it back as fast as they put it out. The thing that everyone is going to talk about in this memo is the taking the expired coupons. They are not encouraging the use of expired coupons. That is not the case. They are simply trying to make it easier to coupon.
What is so cool to me is the value that they obviously place on couponers!
Melissa says
We spoke, they listened. I may start shopping here more oftenas long as the prices continue to be competitive. Since they don’t double mq’s it still doesn’t make it better
.
Sharon says
They are not following their new coupon policy in Lexington, KY. They are still limiting them to five like coupons. I’ll PM at Walmart!!!!
Jenifer says
Because it’s not the new policy!!! Check out http://www.kroger.com/topic/coupon-policy…that‘s where the REAL coupon policy is located!
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Hey Jennifer! This is a procedure update and not a new policy. There will not be anything different on the Kroger site. Thank you for taking the time to post the Kroger policy. If you look at the email, in the title and subject line it says “coupon policy update”
Sarah says
Is this for real?! I love couponing at Kroger but my closest store is not very coupon friendly, I usually drive 15 miles to the neighboring one just because they are way cooler! Im excited for this!!
cristal says
How exciting! I hope this also applies to frys!
Peggy says
that is what I was just thinking.
Ann Cooper says
This is Fake I just asked about it Today by calling Kroger Corporate
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Ann, you realize you are a customer calling corporate about a leaked internal memo right?
Elvira says
LOL Tiffany! I don’t think that part was read by Ann.
JER says
This is not fake or a hoax. I’ve been going to the same Kroger for years and one of the cashiers I always go to mentioned all of this to me. In a nutshell, this article is spot on with what I was told. I’m very happy with this new policy. I don’t think they want to advertise the expired part or gave it abused but the other parts, they want it out there to bring in more customers. They are going after Walmart, Target, and HEB.
Heidi says
Yay…but please only buy what you have a coupon that isn’t expired because then they will also have to raise prices. If you accidentally have an expired coupons then they won’t take it away but remember, as fast as they did this they will take it away and I am sure there are going to be manager adjustments as they see fit. But in the end yay c ouponing!
Amber Hunt says
This is them trying to make up the loss of business they have obviously suffered since May 1, 2014 when they stopped doubling mq’s. I use to shop faithfully at Kroger until then, that was a minimum $4,000/month!!! I guess them losing our business was a lot more damaging them what they realized it would be!!!! This is a step towards reaching out to the couponing community……. but I’d love for them to being back doubling!!!!!
denise says
What region is this for Kroger? Public is a big competitor in the SE or Atlanta
jessica says
Ok, here is my take on this. BAD move on Krogers part. My reasoning is the following: 1. There will be tons of abuse of the terms of limits written on the actual coupons itself (p&g limit 4 like coupons per household per day). 2. Shelf clearers will have a field day 3. Management will lose their right to make decisions on ethical uses of coupons.
I have been couponing my whole life. I have a very nice stockpile. I obtained every bit of it legally and ethically. I only buy newspapers to get inserts (2 /4 ) each week. I shop frugally and smart saving 50 to 70% on groceries without clearing shelves and by following all of the rules. It makes me very upset to see others who refuse to follow the rules because it hurts all of us.
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Exactly!
RM1003 says
totally agree with you toffany. I do not agree with this memo at all!!!
Danielle says
I agree! I’ve been couponing for the past 20 years, and so many changes have come into effect. Unfortunately, I’ve observed too many people breaking the rules, regarding couponing use – from deliberately using a coupon that will work, on an item that it is not supposed to work on – to seeing all kinds trading peelies – and people ASKING for them! This is a case where supply and demand shouldn’t even apply. It’s called ethics. I have no problem couponing in front of my mother or my children. If we can’t be ethical, we shouldn’t be allowed to use coupons.
Logan says
Totally agree Jessica. Been couponing and following the rules because I consider it a privilege to be allowed to use coupons.
Unfortunately, you have coupon bloggers (Kroger Krazy) that encourages the shelf clearers and they call Corporate for everything that doesn’t go their way. I for one, hope the managers still have discretion on the limits (of food purchases not coupons) so we can all still benefit.
Nathan Mincey says
If Kroger REALLY wants to be “coupon friendly”, they will bring back doubling coupons!!!!!!!!
Anonymous says
Exactly!
Anonymous says
I agree!!
Kathy says
Why wouldn’t they just go back to having kroger coupons and manf. coupons and letting them be combined….or better yet double the manf. coupons like what happens up north.
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Because digital coupons are manufacturer coupons
Tina says
Just today, we were told there was now a limit on 2 internet printable coupon per customer per day! Gave us a hard time all the way around when it came to t
he $4.00 Starbucks coffee.
Dorothy says
I have found that Kroger’s “coupon friendliness” varied greatly depending upon the store. My local store is very coupon friendly and the managers go out of the way for their regular customers. The Signature store a few miles away basically bites the head off people who try to use coupons, taking delight in rejecting as many coupons as possible. I rarely go in there, yet I am in my local Kroger 3 – 4 times a week, sometimes more, and even when I am not using any coupons. I think Corporate has learned that treating customers well means customer loyalty.
Connie P. says
You must be in Conroe. Three different Kroger’s on 336, but only one is really friendly about the coupons and has never given me trouble.
Kathy says
They don’t have to look for expiration dates now. The register will beep if the coupon is expired & that’s when they look at the date. The only “accident” is if the cashier goes ahead and enters it manually.
Bebe says
Actually 35% of coupons are not encoded with expiration dates.
DianaSue says
AS A FAMILY WHO (IN PART) IS BASING WHERE TO BUY THIER NEXT HOME, BASED ON STORES THAT ARE COUPON FRIENDLY, WE APPRECIATE THIS KIND OF INFO. WE SHOPPED KROGER IN OHIO & DENVER SO WE’VE BEEN WONDERING HOW THEY DO.
Savannah says
I’m totally in love with this possibility!!! Hope it actually comes true with some added notations, using P&G as an example of limiting per whats written on coupon. As far as expired coupons well that makes me a little nervous that could be the silver bullet that kills this new policy.
Marie says
This will be so nice if every store adheres to it and it ends up being true. Especially when there is a mega event or sale where you want to buy 4 or 5 of something and it happens to be the same thing. One local Kroger I shop at will only take 2 of the same coupon and another will only take 3 no matter what the coupons might say or not say on them. This might help with sales like that. We will see!
Jana says
This does not look like a corporate memo to me. Looks fake, has no date, casual font and none of the other bloggers have mentioned this. Also, what’s the url stamped across it? http://www.litter.com what is that?
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Jana the date was at the top which I edited to remove the personal email information to who it went to and from where it was sent. LOL! Jana, Mylitter is the site you are reading it on!
jy says
Pretty sure this is either fake or a store or district-level coupon policy handout. Kroger coupon policy is not set at the corporate level, and an official memo would not be in that font.
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Actually their memos are sent in this font. So is their coupon policy.
Tracy says
I would like to see this coupon policy enacted at all Krogers in the Southwest region. Just yesterday I stopped at the Kroger at Research Forest and Gosling in The Woodlands on the way to work. The cashier, have been thru her line before, was actually inspecting my coupons and comparing them to the items I was buying. I had 4 same coupons, 2 same coupons and 3 individual coupons so it was totally obvious I wasn’t trying to clear shelves or hoard items. Cashiers just irritate the piss out of me when they do this. The register will reject the coupon if I don’t have the item. They need to get over themselves.
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
AGREED!!!
Jacquie says
Does anyone know if this applies to Food4Less as well? We don’t have Kroger on the West Coast
keyla says
i think this new policy is a great way to bring more customers to the store but i feel like at times the cashiers have some sort of vendetta over people that coupon. so they inspect the hell out of the coupons and even when the rules change and when a coupon says “of any kind” they take is as if we have to buy what is exactly on the picture. i took your class and i never give anyone an attitude and always keep my calm and not blow up but its hard to not keep a closed mouth (even thou i do!) to the cashiers. i just really hope that some the managers at least alert the workers and i really REALLY hope no one takes advantage of this new policy and this also means i have to wake up earlier to go coupon
happy couponing everyone c:
Trina623WS says
I hope this is good for frys i stay right around the corner.for one
Diana says
I already hate extreme couponers and they will ruin this. Shelves will forever be empty. If they are in fact only doing this to make up for lost sales I hope they become strict again when they make that money back. I will not be a Kroger shopper any longer
Savanah Fahrney-Day says
I did notice it had a part about limiting – IF you feel the large quantity would disappoint other customers.
Hopefully that would stop shelf clearers.
Anonymous says
This is only for the southwest division.
Melissa says
I’m hearing that now that it’s September, this is actually not official policy. What happened?
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
It is a procedure change. They still might change some policies, but I am thinking they are not going to. They are asking their cashiers and managers to be more coupon friendly and instructing them on how to do that.
Rylansmom says
The Kroger I shop at is amazing and they still double Qwhere i live in east tn. The employees and management are great. If I have more Q’s bc me n 2 of my bf if there is a deal one of us will gather the Q’s n go n I will ask first and check to make sure there is enough product left after I get what the amount of Q’s we have. And then checkout. This memo can be good and then it can be bad. Bc like some will abuse this privilege and that’s what this is a privilege not a demand. Much love to all couponers bc I have learned so much n have saved so much especially being a single mom with low income. I feel so good being able to gt what I need and have some extra to still treat my son once every two week to son
carla c. says
It’s funny that we all know who put this fake coupon policy up here, What won’t be funny is when you are in the human resources office begging for your job because you are lying to customers. You should have kept this to yourself and not told anyone what you did.
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
Hey Carla, I am not sure who you are talking to?? No one here works for Kroger. They were handing them out at my Kroger store. You are really sweet though to take the time to comment.
Ty says
When do u think this will go public? Like Kroger putting it on the website?
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
They won’t. THis is for training for their employees on how to be more coupon friendly.
Ty says
Iif i show this to the manager or cashier will they comply with the new policy even if i screened shot it on my phone? You receive alot of comments concerning this topic. Can you email me at twalke32@gmail.com? If you don’t mind i have a few other questions.
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
No, they do not have to comply with this post. It is still up to the manager and depending on where you are located they might not have gotten the email.
Eric Hutcheson says
Wonder if this will apply to QFC stores which are part of Kroger company?
Emerald says
I was at my local Kroger today and was told that they are not allowed to take a manufacturer coupon if it says redeemable at walmart. Is this correct?
JER says
I’ve been told this but I believe this varies based on the cashier. I’ve gotten to know my cashiers and they do take them. I had one cashier who must have been new and she wouldn’t take a manufacture coupon from an insert because it was having problems scanning. She tried to tell me it was an HEB coupon but it clearly said manufacturer on the front. She said this because when she turned the coupon over, it said HEB on it. It was from the ad on the other side of the page. LOL! I dang near lost it over something that ignorant. Sometimes you have to educate the employee on their policies. It may say redeemable at Walmart but it’s a manufacture coupon. Any store that starts giving me a hard time over coupons or worse, treats you like a criminal for using too many coupons, I will not go back. Walmart did this to me years ago and it got so bad, I referred to them as coupon NAZI’s. I’ve never done my grocery shopping at Walmart every since. Kroger’s has always been good to me and I’m skeptically about going to their new signature store because I don’t know how they will welcome coupons. Stand your ground if you know you’re right and call a manager over. Be polite they are people too.
Dora Lopez says
Now that this news has been out for some time, has anyone been able to use more than 4 P&G in a transaction? I’ve also had the misfortune of using a clipping service and received my coupons well after they expired. They re-shipped my unexpired coupons and refunded the ones that did expire. I was wondering if I could still use the 4 day expired coupons?
