About an hour ago a poor college student knocked on my door. Poor kids had now idea who he was about to deal with! I have had not so good experiences dealing with the Chron trying to get them to deliver my multiple papers. I SWORE I would NEVER have delivery again!
Well, the deal was too good to pass up! For $.50 you can have as many papers delivered as you want. You will need to pay for the year all at once, but I am saving a HUGE amount. I would have spent $648 in the next year, instead I spent $156 today. You will need to fill out a form separately for each subscription. I filed out 6 and had to write 6 different checks.
This is the number 281-736-9551 and talk to Daniel Chandler. If you are interested they are not offering it at this price much longer, it was a Christmas special that they are asking to reps to not offer….

I got the deal too. I only have 2 delivered to my house and after a weeks transition, they’re have been no problems since!

So you can “switch” prices if you are already receiving the paper? That would be awesome. I’m currently paying $1.25 per week.
Tiffany says
I think you have to unsubscribe and then resubscribe
Deb says
Actually, you may be able to switch prices just by calling customer service. I was going to comment here to thank you for mentioning this deal on your blog. I called and spoke with Daniel, but since it’s time to renew my subscription anyway (and I *also* had a ton of problems getting it in the first place), I wanted to talk to customer service first. I mentioned that I had heard a rumor that they were offering it for 50 cents a week and she said “sure, I can give that to you.” So I’m super pleased to have only paid $26 for the whole year instead of $24 for 20 weeks. ๐ I wouldn’t have thought to ask about the 50 cents if you hadn’t posted that some sales reps are still offering it. Thank you!!!
After reading the other comments, I can see that I got someone at customer service who knew what they were doing. ๐ Lucky me. Also, Daniel was awesome, so even though I didn’t order my paper through him, I called him back to thank him for all of his help.

You may be able to get the 50 cent price by calling customer service. I had other questions about my renewal bill so I was calling them anyway, and I just mentioned that I heard a rumor and the customer service rep said “sure, I can give that to you.” I only renewed my single subscription though. ๐ It’s worth a shot if you have some time to spend sitting on hold to get there (although I think I was only on for about 5 minutes before I spoke to someone).
Darby says
50 cents for x number or 50 cents each for x number? I’ve been paying 50 cents each for the two I get delivered.
Tiffany says
50 each paper.
Ella says
If only they would actually DELIVER it to me. Every weeks it’s a reason or another why they didn’t deliver it. Although they have delivered it to my old address and still wanna charge me for it. They are the hugest pain to deal with.
Tiffany says
They really are, that is why I have not had it delivered for a while. I figured I would try it again at this price. This kid told me he was personally responsible for making sure it was delivered like it was supposed to be!
Ella says
Hmmm, I wish I would’ve seen this before I spent 30 minutes on hold and got a snooty rep. I took a shower and got the kids dressed before they even answered the phone. Then they charged me full price for the papers they had delivered a few weeks ago at full price since “they had no record of the 50 cent promotion”. It was very very frustrating. Hopefully this time they come thru, if not, I’m giving up (or calling that number first and trying again- if I feel brave enough to deal with them!)

I have also had major problems with getting my papers delivered each week from the Houston Chronicle– however, they never fail to deliver the Wall Street Journal every day, which I DONT even SUBSCRIBE to!!!! (and have called to “cancel” several times). I’m going to try to get them down to .50/paper but I also doubt they’ll do it. Boo Houston Chronicle. I wish there was another paper with the coupons in it!!!
Tiffany says
I totally agree. I hate them as well. But like you said we dont have a choice…
Amber says
My only problem is they never fully stuff the Sun paper so I was having to run out and buy more papers…. that was pissing me off I think I will stick to buying them so I can check them first the price is awesome though ๐

So should I call the kiddo you mentioned to cancel and subscribe? Although I’m sure he can’t handle the cancel part, huh? Should I just call HC and cancel and subscribe at the 50cent price?
Has anyone been told no they don’t have the 50 cent deal anymore?
Tiffany says
I would give it a try.

A friend got this same deal last week when she called the HC 6 papers for .50 cents each so I called and was told it was only the 1st paper is 50 cents and each one after that would be $1.00. That is what I pay now. I have called and left Daniel a message I hope he can give me the .50 cents deal.
Tiffany says
I hope so because that is not what I was told.

My subscription was up the end of January, so I called to renew, and tried to get it for .50. It has been a huge hastle. After talking to three different people I think I got it figured out though. I even tried to talk to Nick and the lady said she could help me and wouldn’t put me through. I found out that there are a lot of new trainees there, and they are not doing very good with training. They had to send my account to accounting to fix because she messed it up so bad. She also told me the .50 was only on the first paper. Then I called back and got the second one who was going to give me 6 papers @.50 each, but had to get my account fixed. Come to find out what she was talking about is that there is a limit of 5 delivered. If the girl had just told me, I would have just gotten 5 instead of 6. So the big thing is THERE ARE LOTS OF NEW TRAINEES. I am glad I called back and got someone that knew what she was talking about.

Danial was AWESOME!!!! Thanks for the tip… didn’t know my subscription was about to expire… great timing! Thanks!

I got the $.50 deal per paper a couple months ago. Like Tiffany, I just paid for each subscription for the whole year. The only problem I have is that 3 times now I have gotten incomplete papers. It’s frustrating that I have missed out on important coupons because of it!

I called to cancel my subscription.Right now I am paying 1.50.The lady told me if you are familier with the .50 cents promotion I can switch to your subscription to that promotion. She did it. With out paying any thing my subscription extended until April

I am yet to get Daniel to come… I just dislike Houston Chronicles so much.. costumer service is so TERRIBLE
Kelly says
“The number you have dialed is not in service”- What I heard when I tried the number. Not sure if the promotion has “ended” too long ago; however, my husband was at your class last night and said it was mentioned about the $.50 Sunday special?
