Staples is apparently sending out emails today to the people who ordered the $.99 stamps the other day.
“Thank you for your recent purchase of a custom stamp (3/4” x 1 7/8′), model E4912, sku 341978. Please note that the advertisement for this stamp stated that “Shipping charges apply.” We have identified that your order (order number listed above) is missing the required shipping fees. If you would like 7 day delivery, the shipping charge is $9.95, or you can choose expedited shipping for $13.95. Please call us at 888-333-3199 by Tuesday, January 29th to confirm your desired shipping preference. If we do not hear from you by this date, we will assume that you do not want the order fulfilled and we will issue you a refund within 5-7 business days.”
In Staples defense, there was tiny little wording that said shipping charges may apply, or something to that effect.
HOWEVER, is anyone else tired of companies in the past 6 months, just saying, “sorry, our bad, you don’t get your deal.”
It was never this way in the past. They seemed to actually care if they messed up and didn’t word something right, or made it so you were able to check out and not pay shipping. Staples has just created a NIGHTMARE for themselves in the next few days if this is the case. Here is their Facebook wall page if you got a letter and want to say something.

Legally, I don’t think that they can charge you the additional fee on a credit card without the card holders express authorization. Instead of reply back via email, I would reply back via a phone call to their customer service. Maybe if they get flooded with phone calls, they will rethink their email. If nothing else, maybe you will get the mercy of a great CS rep and will waive the shipping or give you credit on a future purchase. Just a thought.

They will just cancel the order.

I called them the next day to explain I was going to order the .99 stamp with free shipping, but that the price had jumped to $9.99 the next day when the fine print also clearly states the sale was good through 2/2/13. The customer service rep said sorry, but they would honor the .99, but shipping would now be $9.95 or something and that was the best they could do. Isn’t that false advertising? Anyways, glad I didn’t understand the first instructions to get caught up in this mess.

I guess this goes under the saying “If it seems too good to be true…” 🙁

Feel free to moderate this, but this was my Staples FB post….
Quit you
Bit$@&ingeveryone. It is the common problem of either NOT READING or NOT UNDERSTANDING what you read. It said “…shipping charges apply…”. HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND? I ordered several of these as well simply because there appeared to be a “glitch” as it were in there system or some unannounced special….whatever the case, if it would have worked, it would have been a CRAZY cool deal. IT DIDN’T! GET OVER IT. NEXT TIME, LEARN TO READ. At least it isn’t near as big a ..OOOPS as the Best Buy “$50 off $100” deal this week. I read a few of the posts and looks like a bunch of SPOILED BRATS. POOR LITTLE BABIES! Go ahead, take you business elsewhere you unforgiving lumps of ungraciousness!Lillie says
Chicken, you’re so right. So many ordered theses just because they were cheap. I considered it but opted not to since I’m moving soon. Had I ordered it and received this email I would probably be bummed but not overreact and throw a fit over a 99 cent stamp. Staples gave us 3 reams of paper FOR FREE this week and so many freebies every year thanks to them, especially back to school time where I stock up for my college classes. Get over it and be grateful for what you have.

Wow, Chicken and Lillie, calm down. They should offer to send them, if it was a glitch in the system it should still be honored. If you get an extra RR from walgreens and the next time they see you in there they tell you to give it back or if you already ate a meal at a restaurant and as your leaving they want you to give more, would you do it?! NO! Because its not YOUR fault they undercharged you.
At least they aren’t taking it out of our accounts without us knowing and trying to pay the shipping…then I would be REALLY pissed off.

Well I didn’t get an email or anything they just canceled my order and refunded the money. If I wouldn’t have seen the refund in my bank account, I wouldn’t have known it was canceled. I contacted customer service and they said someone called in to cancel it but they couldn’t tell me who. Well that is a bunch of bull, they could have at least sent an email out.
