7 UP (or Sierra Mist) Biscuits
2 cups Bisquick
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup 7-up
1/4 cup melted butter

Cut sour cream into biscuit mix, add 7-Up. Makes a very soft dough.
Sprinkle additional biscuit mix on board or table and pat dough out. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a 9 inch square pan. Place cut biscuits in pan and bake at 450 degrees until golden brown.

Chicken Lasagna (Thanks AllRecipes!)

Ingredients

  • 3 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • 6 uncooked lasagna noodles
  • 1 cube chicken bouillon
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 (26 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce

Directions

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles for 8 to 10 minutes, or until al dente. Drain, rinse with cold water, and set aside.
Meanwhile, place the chicken in a saucepan with enough water to cover, and bring to a boil. Cook for 20 minutes, or until no longer pink and juices run clear. Remove from saucepan, and shred.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Dissolve the bouillon cube in hot water. In a large bowl, mix the chicken with the bouillon, cream cheese, and 1 cup mozzarella cheese.
Spread 1/3 of spaghetti sauce in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover with the chicken mixture, and top with 3 lasagna noodles; repeat. Top with remaining sauce, and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese.
Bake for 45 minutes in the preheated oven.

This is my very favorite pizza dough recipe. Mostly because I don’t have to plan ahead, you do not let the dough rise for this recipe!
A very long time ago when I was little my Mom and some ladies at church put together a cookbook. I remember them working on it in our living room, this was back before computers and word processors, they typed the entire thing on typewriters and bound it themselves.
These are my very favorite kind of recipe books!
This recipe is from that cookbook.

It is very easy.
1 1/2 c. warm water
2 tsp. yeast
1 tsp salt
1 T oil
3 c. flour

Let the yeast dissolve in the water.
Mix the other ingredients together. I add a little honey and garlic salt.
When it pulls away form the bowl take it out and kneed by hand.

You don’t have to kneed very long, just until smooth.


If you doubled the recipe, divide it in half.
Flour your surface and roll out.
Place on pan, and finish patting out.

Poke holes with a fork so it doesn’t rise.

Bake at 500 degrees for about 5-7 min. until slightly brown.

Take it out and then put your toppings on. I recruit children at this point!

This is for the “adult” pizza.

Put back in the oven at 425 for another 15min or until golden brown.
On this one we did hamburger, 2 kinds of olives, red onion, green pepper and 3 kinds of cheese. It was awesome!
The kids had pepperoni and cheese.

Homemade Pizza Dough

1 1/2 c. warm water
2 tsp. yeast
1 tsp salt
1 T oil
3 c. flour
For one pizza. Double for two. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add salt, oil 2 c. of flour and beat until well blended and smooth. Add remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Knead until smooth and satiny. Do not allow to rise. Roll out very thin for crispy crust and pat out thicker for chewier crust.
Place in 500 degree oven, on bottom rack and bake about 5min. or until there are brown spots on the underside of the crust. Top will bubble and start to brown. Remove from oven and top with sauce and toppings. Lower oven to 425 and bake for another 15min.

Ivanovsky’s Spaghetti Sauce 

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 (28 ounce) can whole peeled tomatoes
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 1 Jar Barilla Pasta Sauce (coupon HERE)
  • 2 tablespoons dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1/2 cups sliced green olives
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage browned

Directions

Heat olive oil in a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Saute onions and garlic until tender, 2-3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and simmer over low heat for 3 hours. 

** Can be used for Lasagna also.

These are great to feed a crowd, or for staying up late tonight!

I saw this recipe a while ago on another blog VanillaKitchen ( check out her pictures they are much better than mine!) and knew I was going to have to try them!

For my family I made 24 little sandwiches. There were 6 left after dinner.

Ham and Cheese Sliders
recipe from Vanilla Kitchen

2 TB dried minced onions
1 TB Dijon mustard (I used 2 TB)
2 TB poppy seeds
I used a couple dashes of Worcheshire sauce
1 stick melted butter
1 dozen dinner rolls (I used 2 doz. Martin’s Famous Dinner Potato Rolls)
1/2 pound ham (I used sweet capicola)
1/2 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese (I used baby swiss)

Preheat oven to 325°.
In a small mixing bowl mix onion, mustard, poppy seeds, and melted butter.
Leaving the dinner rolls intact, slice them open so that you have one solid top and bottom. Don’t slice each one open, but rather as a whole.
Place the bottom half on a baking sheet or in a 9×13 inch baking pan, the pan size will depend on choice of rolls.
Line the bottom half of the rolls with cheese slices and ham.
Return the top part of the rolls and drizzle the butter mixture evenly over top.
Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Now use a sharp knife to separate the sandwiches.
(I baked for 15 minutes with foil then about 7 with foil off as I wanted the tops to get a bit of crunch).

These can be made ahead of time and refrigerated, may require 5 more minutes of baking. Also can be prepared ahead and frozen. Defrost in refrigerator overnight and bake as directed.

What to do with your turkey leftovers? We have such a large group we don’t often have much for leftovers, but when we do I like to make soup. This recipe is from Faithful Provisions.

Turkey Soup
Turkey Stock Ingredients:
1 quart chicken broth
3 quarts water
1 turkey carcass, all meat removed
1 onion, halved
1 carrot, halved lengthwise
2 celery stalks
1 bay leaf

Soup Ingredients:
3 cups turkey meat, diced
2 cups leftover stuffing
1 carrot, minced
1 stalk celery, minced
3 cups leftover cooked mashed potatoes,
1 bay leaf
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage leaves (or 1 tsp. dried sage)
1 stick of butter
1 1/2 cups uncooked barley or rice (wild or brown would be great!)

Note: If preparing soup the next day, be sure to store leftover turkey meat in an airtight container before placing it in the refrigerator, top with 1 or 2 ladles full of broth to keep meat moist.

Directions:
Put chicken broth, water, turkey, onion halves, carrot halves, 2 celery stalks, and 1 bay leaf in a large stock pot. Bring to a boil, and then simmer about 3+ hours. Before straining broth, remove large bones and carcass with tongs. Strain the broth through a sieve, strainer or cheesecloth.
In a large soup pot add minced carrots, celery, and onion, and saute with 1 stick of butter. Cook over medium-low heat until softened, about 7 or 8 minutes.

Add turkey broth (from step 1), sage and the remaining bay leaf. Bring to a simmer. When simmering, add diced turkey meat to the soup. Bring it back up to a simmer.
Lastly, add the mashed potatoes, barley or rice, and stuffing.
Simmer for 30 minutes, then turn the heat off and cover. Allow to sit and steam for 5 to 7 minutes.

I had some help in the kitchen today, a 10, 8, 7, and 4 year old in fact! Ohh and a 2 year old licked the spoon at the end 🙂

I am still experimenting with Ovaltine. I made cookies earlier in the month and they turned out great! So I tried brownies this time! Again, we were not disappointed.

Chocolate Ovaltine Mint Brownies!

INGREDIENTS
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups chocolate syrup
1/2 cup Rich Chocolate Ovaltine
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons creme de menthe liqueur
6 tablespoons butter
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup of softened butter until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in the chocolate syrup. Stir in the flour and Ovaltine until just blended. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until top springs back when lightly touched. Cool completely in the pan.

Frosting
In a small bowl, beat the confectioners’ sugar, 1/2 cup butter or margarine and creme de menthe until smooth. Spread evenly over the cooled brownies, then chill until set.
In a small bowl over simmering water, or in the microwave, melt the remaining 6 tablespoons of butter and the chocolate chips, stirring occasionally until smooth. Allow to cool slightly, then spread over the top of the mint layer. Cover, and chill for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares.

**This is a recipe post from last Thanksgiving! I just wanted to give you some ideas…

Most of my family will be out of town for Thanksgiving this week so we had our dinner tonight. Paul and I made two different recipes, I wanted to share them with you.
Paul made an AWESOME stuffing, probably the best I ever had… he even took the pictures for it. I am training him well!

We doubled our since we had about 20 people. I am giving you the recipe for the normal size.
Brown 1lb. Sage sausage in pan ( we used 1 lb. sage and 1lb regular)

These are the rest of the ingredients…

Ingredients
1 (8.5 ounce) package corn bread mix
10 slices firm white bread
1 pound bulk spicy pork sausage
2 cups sliced celery
1 large onion, chopped
2 teaspoons dried sage
1/4 cup melted butter
1 (14 ounce) can chicken broth
2 eggs

Directions
The day before you want to make the stuffing, bake the corn bread mix according to package directions, remove it from the pan, cover lightly with a cloth, and leave it to dry overnight. Tear the bread into pieces and leave it out overnight to dry.
About 1/2 hour before serving, preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and grease a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.

Place the sausage into a skillet over medium heat, and cook and stir the sausage, breaking it up as it cooks, until the meat is browned, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in the celery and onion, and cook until the onion is translucent, stirring occasionally, about 8 minutes. Stir in the sage.
Tear up and crumble the corn bread into a large bowl. Break the bread apart into 1/2-inch pieces, and lightly mix it with the corn bread. Pour in the melted butter, stir to combine, and lightly mix in the sausage mixture.

Whisk the chicken broth with the eggs, and stir into the corn bread mixture. Place the stuffing into the prepared baking dish, cover with foil, and bake in the preheated oven until the stuffing is cooked through and hot, about 30 minutes. Uncover the dish and return to the oven to bake until the top is lightly browned, about 10 more minutes.

OH MY GOODNESS! IT WAS GOOD!!!

Next… onto my little yummy appetizer!
Olive Cheese Bread! From The Pioneer Woman!

Chop 14oz can of black olives
Chop 6oz. of green olives with pimento’s

Chop 3 stalk of green onions

Shred 1lb of Monterey Jack cheese

1 stick butter softened
1/2 cup real mayo

Combine all ingredients together. Now, you can do this a day ahead of time and put it in the fridge until you need it. Or, make it right away!

Cut one loaf of crusty french bread in half.

Smother each side with the mix.

Bake at 350 for about 15min. then turn on the broiler and brown the top until golden!
Not a single bit will be left! I was almost too late for a picture!

Recipe: Corn Chowder

Anything that has bacon and onions sautéed together has to be good right?

I was able to find all the ingredients at Kroger. Also, I ONLY used 1 of the Chipotle Peppers and I thought it was just right. It might have been even a little spicy for my little kids.

Isn’t fresh corn yummy?!

This was a cinch to make and really I am not exaggerating one of the best soups/chowders I have ever made. I got tons of RAVE reviews!

Here is The Pioneer Woman’s Recipe:

Corn Chowder with Chilies

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Bacon, Cut Into 1/2-inch Pieces (or Smaller)
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1-½ whole Yellow Onion, Diced
  • 5 ears Corn, Shucked (about 4 Cups)
  • 2 whole Chipotle Peppers In Adobo Sauce, Finely Diced
  • 1 whole 4-ounce Can Diced Green Chilies
  • 32 ounces, fluid Low Sodium Chicken Broth
  • 1-½ cup Heavy Whipping Cream
  • ½ teaspoons Kosher Salt (more To Taste)
  • 3 Tablespoons Corn Meal OR Masa
  • ¼ cups Water

Preparation Instructions

(Carefully) slice the corn kernels off the cob. Set aside.

Add bacon pieces to a pot or dutch oven over medium heat. Cook for a couple of minutes. Throw in diced onion and stir, cooking the onion for 3 to 4 minutes. Add butter and melt. Add corn. Stir and cook for one minute. Add both kinds of chilies and stir.

Pour in chicken broth and cream. Add salt. Stir and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low.

Combine cornmeal (or masa) with water. Stir to combine, then pour into the chowder. Cover and cook for 15 minutes over low heat. If chowder needs more thickening, add another tablespoon of cornmeal mixed with water. Cook for another ten minutes.

Serve with crusty sourdough bread or in a bread bowl. Absolutely yummy!
