When potty training my kids I have had a number of different strategies. Each child was so different and I had to be flexible and change plans in the middle of something was not working.
I am really sad to say that with my oldest I did a lot of yelling. I also tried to potty train him a little too early because of some serious Mom peer pressure. My oldest was very mature for his age and was very easy to reason with. I should have used this to my advantage earlier then I did. It was only after I had basically given up that I realized what I should have done.
- Wait a little longer.
- Use positive encouragement (no yelling at him)
- Have rewards he wanted ( he could have cared less about stickers and candy)
- Let him want to do it on his own.
After I basically gave up, he came to me one day and said, ” I want a fish.” I didn’t want a fish and so I responded, “You have to be big enough to take care of a fish, and big boys that go potty in the big potty can take care of a fish.”
Guess what? He was potty trained the next day.
With my little one above, I just have been setting out the Pull Ups and letting her take the first step on her own. Sometimes it works well, although she was putting them on OVER her dress today. Sometimes it doesn’t, as she put them on the dog later!
Pull-Ups helps take the scare out of potty training by making it fun and easy with new Monsters U character training pants! You can help make potty training easier by staying consistent and using rituals like the potty break. Make it a game and ask your toddler, “What does a little monster take?”…“A Potty Break!”
