Earlier this spring Scholastic Book company had a Mommy Blogging contest of sorts. My fabulous sister nominated me and long story short I was one of 5 winners!! It has been a really cool experience. This month in their Parent and Child magazine you can read about all 5 of us and check out our blogs. Click HERE to read the article online.
Disclaimer… I was given a 20 min. phone interview for the article. Not once did I ever say the word liar or lie. My kids are a lot of goofy things, as you can see, but liars is not one of them! I am racking my brain to think of what I might have said that would have made someone think that! Oh well, I can handle the part that makes me look like I am cheap, the growth chart comments, but something negative about my kids puts me over the top!
Thank you so much Scholastic readers for visiting my little blog! Thank you regular readers for sticking with me!
This has me thinking though… I must say dumb things and not realize it. Does this happen to anyone else??

I must say that you are very deserving winner! Quite an accomplishment to be in the Top 5 of over 1,000 entries…WOW you should feel pretty good about that!!!! I didn't know your blog in Jan, but would have voted for you if I had. I really enjoy reading your blog!
You know they printed the lie comment like it was a quote!
Did you win a prize too or was it the blog recognition?
Heartsabustin says
The Scholastic article was how I found you. I blog myself, so I'm always interested in reading other mom's blogs. Congrats!
The Mom says
No prize, just a pat on the back! But well worth it! I know it sounds like a quote, thats why I am freaking out! I never said anything like that!
Thanks for the nice comments Jennifer!

Wow, to be honest I think whoever wrote up the paragraphs did a horrible job on all of them. They sound a lot like a high schooler writing up a report last minute. The comments on you don't sound like you at all. I don't think I have ever heard you tolerate a lie in your house and your kids are very well behaved. I would guess the detective part would be more like Tucker reading 1000 page books at night when he should be in bed or trying to figure out why the girls are giggling and whispering in the next room (oh, right, it's because they are making something as a surprise for someone). And why in the world would they pick your growth charts? They are adorable but it was something you did once. Why not your jewerely or your ceramic plates that you sell online and that are professionally done? Kind of makes you wonder what else is written out there that isn't all that accurate.

The article is how I found you too, and I must have not read the article very carefully because I didn't even notice anything negative. I just read it all with interest and couldn't wait to get to a computer to see all the blogs. You should send in a correction notice and leave it at that – people love your blog and you and your kids love each other and that is enough! 🙂
The Mom says
I wasn't going to worry anymore after I posted my own correction! I know another Mom was upset about what was written in her interview as well. It has overall been a great experience! I have gotten to meet so many really neat Mom's online!

You are such a liar! I'm sure you said it and forgot it. 😀
Seriously, I found the same kind of comment on Jana's blog which led me to the article which led me to you and I'm enjoying not feeling alone in the crazy life of motherhood.

Jeff and Anna too! says
I can never tell a lie… so usually I group them together!
Ah I know! As soon as I read that line I thought, "Wow that doesn't.. sound right at all! Those kids don't lie!" Well, I'm glad it's cleared up. She must be a Mom too, was having a bad day trying to interview five different women at the same time with kids in the background and when one of HER children screamed at the other "YOU LIAR!" She just made the mistake…
Maybe you should make a video with the kids wearing halos and angel wings!

Me! By the way, it was me! I'm the fabulous sister!!!

I read the article in the magazine and I like visiting everyone's blogs. So I thought that I would check out the ones in the article. How great it was to see that I had already been to your site! I just knew it by "my litter of six". You have such a cute site and congrats on the article!
The Mom says
Thank you so much, you are all wayyyy to nice!

I was so glad to find someone else with 6 kids in the Houston area! I have 1 girl (9 yrs) and 5 boys (7,6,5,2 1/2, 18 mos.). Boy are we busy! I'd like to ask you some questions…How do you keep the house clean? How do you do chores with the kids? Just wondering how other moms with 6 kids do things, as sometimes it gets overwhelming! Thanks for any ideas!
The Mom says
Hey greatsommer8 email me, I'd love to know how you do it!!! Also I'd like to share a few ideas about things to do in Houston for the kids in the summer!
I think I will have to do a post on our summer job schedule… look for that in a few days. How do you do yours??

I also found you via the Scholastic article and am so glad I did! What a fun blog this is – and amazing as well – how on earth do you get all this cool stuff done while wrangling a small herd of kids as well? Impressive! I'll be stopping back in for tips!
