My husband spent a good part of the day trying to get clarification on the Walmart coupon policy. Here is a LINK to the Video we made at Walmart tonight using catalina’s.
This is what he found out:
I know you have all been waiting for this with the same anticipation as the start of American Idol. I had a great conversation with Ravi from the Walmart PR team and cleared up a lot of things. In addition to Walmart’s price matching policy they will honor competitors coupons that are for a specific price on an item, not a dollar amount off of an item. For example Walgreens has coupons in their Sunday ad, Walmart will honor those coupons(similar to a price match) and yes for all you sickos out there you can combine a manufacturer’s coupon to this. (they are hard to match-up!) Here is a bullet point format of what I learned.
- They do and must accept valid internet printable coupons!
- They do accept all valid Manufacturer’s Catalinas, even with other store logos!
- They do accept competitor’s coupons that state a specific price for an item and they can be combined with a Manufacturer’s Coupon. (See the coupons on the bottom of the picture? They will basically “price match” those coupons from Walgreens”
- Walmart IS really trying to enter the coupon world! No, I do not work for Walmart

- Walmart needs to hire me to go around the country and train all of their managers on how their policy works! (crickets chirping?)
I know this doesn’t answer all of your deepest darkest coupon desires, but it is a vast improvement.
If these things are not being honored at your local Walmart here is what I suggest…
1. Print off the emails I have posted and put them in your binder.
2. Print the Walmart Coupon Policy and carry it with you.
3. Take down the name of your manager and the store number.
4. IF 1 & 2 DO NOT WORK, Call Corporate and ask them to call your Manager to educate them on their policy and request a follow up call to ensure resolution. 1-800-WALMART (1-800-925-6278)

Thanks so much for the hard work you have done to get this clarified! I hope all your work will result in much less conflict regarding coupon use at Walmart!
thanks much!!! Love that you all did this!
Thanks for all the work! It’s all sort of confusing, but I have a fistful of catalina coupons that just got more versatile! =)
So he does girl hair and calls about coupon policies for you? Now that’s a hubby!! 🙂
And great info, thanks!
GEE!!! When I sent you that email over the weekend about the new policy I never imagined it would lead to all this.
Thanks for investigating this for all of us!!!!
Will Walmart match the price after Up Rewards/Register Rewards. For example, if Walgreen’s says an item will be 1.99 after the Register Reward, will they match that, or just the sales price.
I am guessing just the sale price.
Ok- First… am I the ONLY stupid one who didn’t realize that Paul @ “Iheartthemart” is your hubby? Seriously… and I’ve even met the guy! (Shelf Reliance Houston Meeting).
Second… is it bad that I am coveting your husband’s involvement and passion for couponing? I get a pat on the back for my savings and that’s about it. Oh, and some teasing. Has he always been that into couponing or did you convert him?
Lastly, thanks for the footwork on this. VERY VALUABLE!!!
Julie!
First, I have really tried to stay out of his blog… and not tell anyone that I know him 🙂 So you are not stupid at all, in fact, very smart for connecting it!
Second, I got a pat on the back and “get these stupid coupons off the counter!” for years! It has only been the last year that he has really helped, and then once he figured out price matching at Walmart he was “hooked”!
