Walgreens will be having a new card program beginning in September. I do not have a lot of information right now as to any specifics but I want to give you a heads up.
I have had a few comments left lately and wanted to share them with you.
Walgreens new program “Balance Rewards” slated to start on September 2nd. Customers sign up in store and provide their phone number and name to register. They may opt for a card or to go cardless. The phone number used to register must be given in order to recieve the sale prices. Points will be accumulated on 95% of the items in the store, and once you have 5000 points, the customer can receive $5 off their purchase.
Hello,
I work for Walgreens and I thought that I would let everyone know that the company is starting its own rewards program called “Balance Rewards.” Unfortunately, you will NOT be able to use In-Store coupons in your transactions UNLESS you have this card. However, you can still use your manufacturer coupons. Solution? Sign up for the FREE card so that this policy doesn’t effect you.
Thanks!
Alex T.
What do you think? Are you excited or dreading it?
P.S. You can see this weeks Walgreens Deals and Walgreens Scenarios.

It going to be like having a Kroger card, you get the sale price after the card has been scanned. But you can also earn points on your purchases and prescriptions and use them like money toward future transaction like kmart.

Dreading! Just another card to add to the stack of other rewards cards.

There is an app called Key Ring were you can keep track of all your cards but wouldn’t have to carry them around. It’s really easy to set all your cards up on the app. All you do is take picture of the barcode and if the store is in the list it will add the name of the store. If the name of the store is not on the list you can just type in the name. AND (best part) you get additional coupons from that app for different stores you have listed. I scanned all my rewards cards into Key Ring and threw away the kids. It makes my wallet littler. 🙂
Check it out if you can.

Dreading it. Yet another step to get a good price. Another place that has your phone number and name. Why not get rid of the in-store coupons and just make it the store member price like Kroger’s, especially if you can’t use the coupons without signing up.

I am wondering if they are still going to offer RR and if so, is this going to be a way to limit the amount we can get (one per household)? If so, I am going to be getting a few cards!

From what I’m reading, it doesn’t excite me at all. Just sounds like something else to mess us register rewards or how many coupons/RR you can use in a visit. Not impressed.

Register rewards will continued to be offered along with the program. And special coupons will be emails and mailed to card holders. Those who receive emails from Walgreens now will get a invite to sign up for card sept 2, otherwise all other shoppers will be offered sept 16 in store. Hth

Sounds like they are trying to out do CVS if you ask me.

Sounds fine to me, I find it easier to shop at CVS.

Dreading. I hate all those stupid cards. If stores are going to advertise something on sale then is should be on sale, regardless if you have a card or not.

We did the roll out of this program last year in the Kansas City area – it sucked! My neice that lives in Arkansas and did not have this program did way better than I did! You also do not get the same amount of points as the rest of the country when it comes to the register rewards. They would make an item worth say 300 points instead of getting a $4 RR back and you had to wait to acculate your points to get your $5. Was not a fair system at all! I emailed the company several times about different things that happened that was not happening to customers in other states – did not matter to them. I quite going to Walgrens because of this program and just started back when they ended it here about a year ago. Guess I will be back to shopping at CVS only again if it is as bad as the last time!

I don’t like giving out my phone number. I still remember when we used to receive solicitation calls on a daily basis. My husband gave the Walgreens pharmacy department his cell number recently so they could contact him when a particular Rx was ready. They then used that number (his work number) to call him several times with advertising-type recordings. He eventually listened to one all the way through til the end when they tell you how to opt-out of those type calls, but I worry that they might decide to sell that info at some point in the future. Once your number gets out there, it’s hard to get the calls to stop!

You can list cell numbers as well. Its good for 5 years unless you give out your number again. Its’ simple and it works 🙂

I’m registered on “Do not Call,” but if you are a customer, they are allowed to call you. As soon as you do any type of transaction with a company, they can call you any time, and as many times as they like.

I hope it is not like CVS where you are limited on the Register Rewards. I like being able to go back and make more purchases at Walgreens for the same product. I hate that CVS “tracks” the customer sales.

I was told by a cashier that if you return something that had a “rr”, an “x” amount of points (how much that item was in points) will be deducted from your card. That seemed ridiculous to me, because what if the item you bought was horrible, but wanted to keep your points? Like the krill pills, for some reason it made me bloat like a balloon (sorry for tmi).
