I know that many of you want to help, have been affected by the recent fires, or are waiting to see how you can support others with any kind of relief effort. There is a lot going on this weekend as far as fundraisers and donation drop off, so I wanted to give you a heads up if you are interested!
Here, north of Houston most of the fires are contained, the air is heavy with smoke though and that will last a while. Bastrop is still struggling and so is Austin. Personally, my Uncle and his wife lost their home and everything in it outside Austin in Steiner Ranch. They had 20 minutes to evacuate as the fire came over a ridge and jumped a ravine into their backyard. As they drove out of their driveway a 30 foot wall of flames was taking over their property.
This is how you can help:

This coming Sunday between noon and 6pm at the Kroger in Spring at FM2920 and Kuykendahl, local Boy Scout Troop 878 will be taking donations in front of the store. The Cub Scouts will be handing out fliers with a list of items that we are hoping shoppers will pick up and drop off with the Scouts on their way out. In Port Lavaca, TX at Jackson-Roosevelt Elem. school. They are taking donations until Sept. 17th.
Our pastor & his wife live in Bastrop & drive down here every weekend to preach at 2 churches, last Sunday when they went home they were stopped on the highway outside of town & told that their neighborhood was burning. They finally found out 3 days later that their house burned completely. They were not even lucky enough to be able to grab anything before evacuating, because they weren’t home. They literally lost everything! Prayers to everyone who are dealing with these fires!

This is from my friends feed, he is a fireman in Bastrop and trying to get money together for firefighter families who have lost their homes:
There are several local firefighters that lost everything recently while battling the Bastrop Complex fire; all good friends of mine. We are trying to raise funds to assist them in getting their lives back to as normal as possible, so if you would like to make a donation (no matter how little) Walmart gift cards are as good as cash. Please send them to :
