Reader Gina sent me this pitcure and the following email:
The Women in our church (LDS) meet once a month for an activity and in November, we will be making and donating bags of items to the local womens shelter. We are starting to collect things now so we will have enough in November. Well, a few weeks ago, we had a visitor at church and I had brought in some items to donate at that time that I had used coupons to get, so I was showing them to the women so they could see that you don’t have to spend a lot to help out. This visitor came up after and quietly donated $20 to purchase items with since she wouldn’t be visiting long enough to go shopping.
I was given the $ and told to get what I could with it. The challenge was on! :O)
So, attached is a pic of what I got with the $20 and coupons.. no coupons were doubled or tripled and most items were bought at either target or walmart.
This is what I was able to get:
3 shirts
8 packs razors
5 nail polishes
1 nail clippers
3 body washes
11 deodorants
2 packs dry erase markers (school supplies)
3 make-ups
1 mascara
1 travel q-tips
3 travel first aid kits
2 toothbrushes
4 lip balms
** So this got me thinking…. I used to do the $25 mall challenge, I know I have not done that in a long time and it was a lot of fun. Let’s do this: If you want to take the $20 challenge, leave a comment. I will randomly pick 5 people and mail them each a $20 Visa gift card. Then you can go shopping and see how much stuff you can get with the $20 to donate! If this sounds like fun to you, leave a comment and tell us if you are up to the challenge! Giveaway will close on Friday afternoon.

Yes, I have done this with our womens shelter for Christmas last year and I am so up to the challenge. $20 dollars goes a long ways!!!
This is just what I have been thinking about trying to start. The local middle school sends home back packs full of snacks and food for “kids in need” every weekend, the idea is to get them through when there is no free-lunch program available. Well with coupons I am working on getting a hygiene program going. The kids in need have already been identified, so three time a year (at the beginning of the year, Christmas break and the end of the year) sending home hygiene packs; deorderant, shampoo, feminine products, toothbrushes etc. Sometimes its easy to hide that you are not eating at home, but showing up at school unclean leads to low self esteem, attitude problems etc. With coupons I think we can make a real difference.
I would so love to do this! I am a coupon virgin so to speak. I just printed off all of your pages to get my binder started. I would definitely love to see what I could do with $20. Thanks!
OH PICK ME PICK ME!!
VERY COOL..I am in. I can usually do amazing things with $5 at CVS. Can’t wait to see what $20 would bring in.
Love this idea. I’m up for the challenge!
I would love to do the challenge! I am new at couponing too. It makes me feel good to help others!
I’m up for the challenge! I’m new to couponing (have only done a few trips) and am excited to see what I can do! Must say I’m shocked and appalled I didn’t try this sooner! Would love to spread the wealth so to speak!
this is something the lord has been leading me to do. Only my husband and myself I help all 6 of my kids but I think I can do more I will be going to where ever to save and donate to local shelter. I can’t work but this I can do. Makes me feel like I am worth something.
I would love to take the challenge. Bring it on. My daughters are loving couponing with me.
I’m in! I just took food and detergent to my local SPCA and toiletries to the shelter for battered women. They were so thrilled! It truly is amazing what you can do with a small amount and a little thinking!
Sounds like fun. I would love to try this. Thank you.

I donate to my local Interfaith Community Service and would love this challenge!!
Since I am only an hour away from the tornadoes that went through Springfield, MA I have been working on gathering some items to bring there. One of my friends was deployed to help & he said there is a lot of need since this isn’t something we typically witness in MA. So yes, I am definitely up to the challenge!!
I’m up for the challenge – I’m new to couponing and make it a game of spending the least and getting the most 😀 I love to read all the hints and tips!
I would love to do it!!
I would love to take your $20.00 challenge!! Thanks and I hope I get picked.
I often do this with freebies I get. I donate to a local charity that helps out unwed and/or addicted moms and their children.
Ohhh a game I am good at!!!! I donate to my church all the time but I have never taken a specific amount and used it for the entire trip and then donated the entire trip! Sounds like a fun challenge! I’m game!
