The National Consumer Panel (formerly Nielsen Homescan) focuses on measuring consumer attitudes and behavior.
The panel is made up of people just like you, whose opinions help manufacturers and retailers make decisions on what products to develop or improve. You’ll earn gift points that are redeemable for name-brand merchandise, including electronics equipment, jewelry, household items, toys, and much more. You’ll also earn entries into their many exciting sweepstakes. But, above all, you’ll be making your opinions count!
If you decide you do not want to continue with the program at anytime, you can return the scanner at no charge! There are no obligations. You can work at your own pace and on your own schedule.
As a panel member, NCP will provide you with a hand-held scanner. Every time you or members of your household shop, you’ll use the scanner to scan the barcodes on all of your purchases. Then, once a week, you’ll send Homescan your purchase information. It’s as easy as that! Just click here to get started. *Some zip codes may not qualify.
***BUT…. the cool part is that if you sign up anyway and they turn you down, you get picked up for other offers! These are MUCH better in my opinion. I was sent cash in the mail to do a survey, and when I mailed that survey in ( it took me 15min to do) they sent me $30 CASH in the mail! Try it with the intention of getting turned down!

BEWARE about this! I signed up for it last year, and returned the pkg the day after I got it. EXTREMELY time-consuming and when I looked at the “prizes” – it would take probably about a year to qualify for something you could probably get at the dollar store. I have yet to read anything good about it from people who have done it.
Just a word of warning!

Tiffany – I got approved, they are sending me a scanner. I will definitely check it out and report back to you. I think it will be interesting to do, but I hope it isn’t too time consuming like cheri stated. I will probably have my kids scan the items when I get home from my shopping trips, they would actually probably enjoy it!

I have the scanner and have doing it for a couple of months now. It isn’t that easy to just scan the items in. You turn on the devise, pick the primary shopper and then if anyone else from your household went, then pick the store, scan the item, enter the quantity, enter the price, enter if any type of coupon was used, enter the amount of the coupon, and then choose to scan the next item. So it’s not as easy as just point and scan. Wish it was!

Ok, I applied and just got an email that I was accepted and that I will be getting my scanner. And then I read that ^ so now I am unsure… 🙁 oh well, I will give it a try and see how it works.

Ok, I got my scanner about two days ago and have been scanning away on everything I have purchased. I personally don’t feel that it is that much work. I tried scanning things as I was putting them into my cart, that way I could see the price from the shelf tag as I did it, but found that to be a lil more hectic especially when shopping with the kids/man. I then tried lining everything up as I was unloading my groceries and going down the line with my receipt to reference, and that worked much better for me. It has taken me, roughly, an extra ten minutes per shopping trip to get my whole order scanned, including any dining out we do. I don’t think I will have a problem with it.
After you scan, you dock it, and it will auto transmit once a week… and the unit is cake to use….

I’ve got one and I use it for my small to medium sized purchases. The hardest part is remembering and entering the coupon amounts you used for the items you bought. Other than that, it doesn’t take too long. I generally don’t enter my large purchases (like a $200 trip to the store) because that would take too long for me and I can’t remember all the sale items and coupon amounts

I used it for about a week and sent it back. I found it difficult to scan every item that I bought every day. It’s not like you can take the scanner with you. And you have to use for a long time before you see any awards. I am a member of Synovate and Pinecone surveys though and I recommend both of those services. (Tiffany recommends those as well, that is how I learned of them.)

Horrible, horrible — I totally agree with Cheri and a couple other responses, I was chosen but after reading the instructions and looking at the prizes decided it wasn’t for me. Way too time consuming and you earned very little for crummy prizes. The thing that clinched it for me though was receiving several days before I brought my fourth baby home after spending a week in NICU. Wasn’t going to add anything time consuming into an already hectic schedule.
