Complaining isn’t really fun. I don’t like hearing it, and I am sure my husband and others don’t either. I am stating this first because I am about to, well, complain. Sorry in advance…. this is going to be long.
It’s not even really complaining, it is basically just telling you how much I hate CHASE bank right now. Just think of it that way. See, I am really pretty anal and I know that. I like things a certain way, and take pride in making sure that I am not behind on anything, or past due. I have my own business account and bank account that I keep a little money in and I like it. WELLLLL not anymore!
This weekend we got home from spring break after being gone for 10 days. The stack of mail was HUGE. I started going through it right away to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I came across what looked like a regular statement from CHASE and opened it up. They were informing me that they had CANCELLED my business account for violating their terms and service. I was thinking it had to be a mistake as I really don’t use that account, it is more my savings. I grabbed a phone and called them.
A woman answered after being on hold for 5 minutes and as soon as I gave her my account number, I was cut off.
O.K., I redialed. After being on hold for another 7-8 minutes, a man answered and we went through the 4 minutes of questions to confirm it was me. Except that I couldn’t remember the last transaction I had made on the card. I don’t use that card. He informed me that he had to ask security questions. Fine. Then he asked 4 of the craziest questions going back to my high school. I answer correctly and he puts me on hold to find out why my account was cancelled.
We then got disconnected. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I call back again. Go through the same thing. Answer 4 more very personal questions that I can not imagine how they possibly got the information. He puts me on hold to find out why my account is closed. After waiting for 5 minutes he gets back on the phone. AND THE LINE GOES DEAD! I am starting to lose it.
I finally call back for the 4th time. Go through the entire thing again. This has been 42 minutes at this point. The lady this time starts asking me the questions. They are multiple choice.
“Tell me which property ____ Ivanovsky owned” then she names off 4 address on the west coast.
I say to her, “I have no idea who you are talking about.”
“You can’t answer the question?” she says.
“No, that is my last name, but I have no idea who that person is. How can I answer the question?” I reply.
“If you can’t answer the question, we can’t help you. I will ask you 1 more and that is your last chance” she says. “Which vehicle did your husband own? A. Pontiac 6000 LE B. Ford Explorer SE C. Chevy GMC Truck or D. Pontiac 1000 SE ?”
“Well, at one point he owned a Pontiac, but it was a really long time ago, I have no idea if it was a 6000 or a 1000.” I tell her. “Are these for real questions? It was a Pontiac, other than that I have no idea that model!”
“You have to answer or you will compromise your account.” She states.
“Paul!” I yell, “Did you own a Pontiac 6000 or a 1000?” From the other room he yells back “6000”
“It was a 6000” I tell her.
“Did someone else answer that? I heard someone else tell you the answer.”
“Yes my husband did, because it was HIS car and I never even drove it.” I say.
“You can bring 2 forms of ID into your local branch tomorrow and they will help you, you have compromised your account and I can’t talk to you.” She then hangs up.
I am livid!!! They have had me on the phone close to an HOUR, hung up on me 4 times at this point and no one has told me a single thing.
Monday morning bright and early I walk into my local branch office. I go to the office of the guy who opened my account. I tell him what has happened the day before and show him the letter that I got and asked him what was going on. He pulls up my account and it says restricted, and that he had to call in. He calls and they are giving him the same run around they gave me. When he finally has the chance to ask them about my account, they tell him….
“We really have no information. It looks like a computer program that scans accounts reported that hers looks like it violates our terms and conditions. She has an online business ( MyLitter blog) and it is an online GAMBLING site. We have to close her account.”
“WHAT??!!!! Are you kidding me?” I yell.
He is still on the phone with them and says he doesn’t agree and they completely shut him down and tell him they can not reverse it and that my account is closed.
I am furious! There is no real person that actually bothered to take a look at my site, but instead let a computer program make a decision and close an account. There is not anyone that has any common sense that can make any decisions. Then there was a hold on the account and I could not walk out with a check.
At this point I am so mad, I start crying. Which then makes me more mad. I am in this poor guys office, crying, telling him how badly they treated me on the phone the day before, how I have NOT done ANYTHING wrong and now they wont give me my money!!!! It might have been the tears, but with another phone call and a few more managers they get me my funds released and I walked out with a closed account.
I am sorry this is so long. BUT – I hate the fact that businesses are so big, that no one person matters. I have never had an account closed before. I only used it as my savings and had a debit card associated with it. The letter I got says they are reporting it to the credit bureau, which I can’t possible believe they can. Although, I am sure they will. Which is another fight that I will have to have as I did nothing wrong. NOT A SINGLE REAL PERSON typed in www.mylitter.com to see what it was. I am sure you can all vouch for me that it is not an online gambling site! 🙂 CHASE doesn’t care. They apparently let a computer decide what they do to real people. Thankfully, we have the option to bank somewhere else and will, and make sure that our children do also and should anyone else ever mention that they are looking I will tell them to RUN RUN RUN from CHASE bank they are HORRIBLE.
Thanks for the chance to vent! Over and OUT!
P.S. The person they were asking me for the property info on? Paul and I did some genealogy… it was his great, great, grandpa. Apparently at Chase you are expected to know the properties of your spouses great, great grandparents, or you are compromising your account.
April says
Holy cow, that is seriously ridiculous, though not surprising coming from Chase. You know what you should do? Write into the Suze Orman show and ask if they can really report that they THOUGHT you had a gambling site on your credit report, because what would that have to do with your credit anyway? Makes no sense. But seriously, I refuse to bank with any of the big names because of this–Wells Fargo, Chase, Citibank… Credit unions are the way to go these days, ones that are NCUA insured, plus they give way better credit card interest rates that have a cap unlike banks! Ridiculous what happened sheesh!
Elizabeth says
I am so sorry to hear this Tiffany, but sad to say it is common. I have a similar story, however mine is with Bank of America. I was in tears and pregnant, so you can imagine the poor guys horror when I was in his office. I left feeling as if this world was falling apart. Hope you find a bank you fall in love with and then let us know. 🙂
LN says
I went through almost the same thing with bank of america. I had an account with them when I worked there. I closed it when I left. They re-opened it and charged me monthly fees for not having a balance. Recently I decided to give them another chance. They used my maiden name even though I gave them the correct name when I re-applied for an account. I called in to ask what I needed to do to fix it. They told me I don’t exist in their records with either name. I go to the branch and they want to charge me for seeing a teller because it was an e-bank acct. I wrote a nice little letter to them and closed.
PW says
I did to. My account was compromised while I was trying to Log in Online and they blamed me for it, when I had no idea how that is when I couldn’t do anything about the account being compromised. Crazy.
kim says
I hate chase too!
we have issues with them! sorry you had to deal.
Karin says
Oh my.. I’m so sorry to heat that you’ve gone through with this such a horrible experience. We have a local bank account, but if they would do like this to us, I can’t imagine the damage. I’m sorry I can’t give you any good advice or anything, but I hope you feel better now and everything going great for you.
Shannon DeSouza says
We just had our 17 year old close her student account due to them posting deposits and such days after and charging her $34 a pop! Which means it cost me $34 a pop = over $150! CHASE SUCKS!
Jennifer says
This almost sounds made up! Crazy! I can’t believe this! I would write corporate, though they probably dont care either.
Tiffany says
Sadly, it is not. I wish it was!

Bed bank

Big banks suck!!! Go to a credit union.
Lori says
Sorry you had such a horrible experience! My husband had a bad experience with Chase as well and he spent so much time on the phone with them trying to close the account. They lured him with a bonus offer for opening an account with them if he used direct deposit. Problem is after two months, they started charging him a fee without notifying him. The fee exceeded the bonus he received for opening and using the account! So deceptive and HORRIBLE customer service! We will never bank with Chase again!
Jennifer says
I bank with Chase and they can be a pain, but I have made a friend in the bank that is always my savior and she is at the one by the mall in T W. If I were you I would copy this whole letter, mail it to Chase and see if you get a response. I am sure you would never go back to them, but someone up high needs to know. That is soooooo ridiculous
Juliann says
I’m a fellow Chase bank account closer. I think there are basic principles that businesses should follow, good customer service is the least one should have. Unfortunately, it seems that even average customer service is a long lost art.
lili says
I closed my account with Bank of America… another big name business that treats people like numbers and opened a credit union account somewhere else.
Kim says
I was just dealing with those same CRAZY questions with them yesterday when I couldn’t remember my password to my account. I was asking myself if this was FOR REAL???
Time to cancel the Amazon CC (It’s Chase). I signed up for it at Christmas to save a few $ off my order. It had a $10 balance on it by accident when I ordered something and it didn’t default to my debit card.
Switch to Frost Bank…..They remember what Customer Service is.
LN says
If you have any military affiliation at all, go to USAA Bank. They are the greatest. I have been with them for 10 years and will never get rid of them. When you call, you feel like you are their only customer. I LOVE them!!!
Karyn Allen says
I second this… I switched because they offer truly free checking. The
only drawback is when you make a deposit you have to go to the UPS store and you can’t make cash deposits, but the deposit his the bank right away. If you have direct deposit at work you will get your money the day before too….love them so far.

I’ve never had a problem with Chase in over 2 years. We have a personal account and then I also run our Church business account. The only problem I ran into was recently when we changed our church name and had to figure out some way to legally change the name on the Church acct but that was resolved without too much hassle. I just had to get some paperwork and turn it in. They do have a rule to use your card 5 times or be charged a monthly fee on the biz acct but that’s the only thing we have to be sure of every month which isn’t hard. Only once have we not met the 5 charges minimum. I have even had good experience with customer service in that they reversed 3 fees for me when I was in the hospital, totally didn’t have to but did just to be nice. My grandmother has been with Chase going on 60 years now. I have had BAD BAD experiences with Woodforest, Bank of America, Frost bank, IBC, Texas Bay Area Credit Union and United Comm Credit Union. Win some loose some.
Talia Miller says
Chase is by far one of the worst customer service friendly places I have ever dealt with! They did similar things to me in regards to someone who had hacked my account and was stealing thousands of dollars from me! I happened to be on vacation when this happened. And they were completely useless!! It is better you are no longer with them!
Try a credit union! I have had the best service with a local credit union and they don’t charge ridiculous fees for things either!!
Heather says
Reading your story only made me confirm what I already wanted to do…switch from Chase to a local credit union for my personal checking account. It is now added to my to-do list! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Scooper says
I had issues with Chase several years ago. I opened a savings account to put money people gave me while I was pregnant. Before I even gave birth the initial $50 was whittled down to $4 because they were charging me fees I didn’t know about. I remember asking them why I’d agree to an account which doesn’t save me any money when that was the entire purpose of the account. They couldn’t answer and I left the bank with $4. I’d never do business with them again.
Chrystal says
I would think that there has to be something wrong with them being able to ask all those questions. If not illegal, it is definetly unethical for them to have that much personal information on you. I would call the news. It would make for an eye opening story for them, and maybe enough bad publicity would make them change their policies.
Tiffany says
That is what I was thinking and so I asked at the bank. They said that they can do a background check and basically a google search or people search and can use whatever they find to ask you questions. How is that possible. And why would using my married name be acceptable because it obviously brought up my husbands relatives and people I have never met, let alone property they owned!
Stacye says
We are about to close ours as well. We signed up with them for continental points which they then stopped doing without telling us. So that’s why I’ll be going back to Woodforest for our business accounts. They only thing I liked about chase was being able to deposit a check in the ATM and get a copy of the check. Their rules and regulations are rediculous. I mean you can only go back 120 days to see your transactions. Stupid. Good luck
lindsey p. says
Wells Fargo is the only bank I havent had problems with. I had a Chase card for unemployment (they would only direct deposit to them) and they were terrible to me. I couldnt get my money from the drive through since I didnt have an acct. i had to go in. And they said my unemployment “account” wasnt really an account. My husband had Bank of America for a business account and when a lady (who had her own small business) tried to transfer $500 to him, they put a hold on it because they said he was scamming her. never gave it to him and never refunded her. THEN with BoA, someone got my sisters bank acct number and had checks made then went shopping around the woodlands. (she had a GA address on them) BoA told my sister that she was responsible for all the money spent.
Jessica says
aww sorry you went through all of this 🙁 my first credit card was through chase and I always had issues with them. Everybody on here is right though… Local banks and credit unions are the best and friendliest 🙂 when I go make deposits or withdrawal money from my bank on Saturday they send my doggie a treat through the chute when they see him in the car 🙂
Robin Whiting says
Wow so sorry you had to go through that. It is so frustrating that big businesses put us through such horrendous circumstances but THANK YOU for spreading the news about this corporate giant. Another one I will NOT do business with plus I will tell your story should anyone I know want to do business with them.
Ronda S says
Several banks and businesses use that same ridiculous method of questioning to “identify” you before discussing your account. It is INSANE. I’m all about protecting my identity and information, but we are human, after all – unlike the program that decided your site was a gambling site. So ridiculous! I’m sorry you had to deal with all of this craziness. I would have been out of my mind!
leslie says
It was awful what happened to you and all of the ppl they have screwed. They are one of many corrupt banks.
Don’t forget they were one of the banks receiving Government bail out $ and using the bail out money for their CEO bonus’s.
They had mess with my mother on her mortgage. A “mistake” was made and she still had fees and fines to pay because of their “mistake”.
I use only use my local Credit Union.
Ella says
I’m with LN, if you can, go with USAA. We had chase, capital one and bank of america, all giant pains. No issues with USAA and their customer service rocks. They take care of any issues (which almost never happen) right away.

We are also done with Chase Bank. Thankfully, we are able to use USAA savings bank because of military service. USAA is awesome in everything they do. I can’t recommend them enough!

Sorry to hear this. I understand the need to vent i worked at a local bank for 8 years. We alays looked up anything we though was funny then talked to the person.
Your phone with chase sounds like my call to Comast. I hate them to the point i cancelld my phone and cable with then. I reather be with out then deal with a nasty company.
Good luck with your next bank.
Kristi D. says
I’m so sorry you had to go through all that! But unfortunately it doesn’t surprise me. I’ve had issues with pretty much all the major banks. I have two credit cards with Chase that I’ve had for YEARS. Never missed a payment. Then we had a snafu with our mail and I was ONE day late paying on both of them. They not only fined me nearly $50 per card, but raised the interest rates to the maximum possible (25% or something ridiculous). I called them and they refused to reverse their decision. I was furious. Oh and by the way that happened 3 years ago, I have paid on time ever since and they still won’t lower the rate. I can’t wait until I can pay the darn things off and be done with them.

I AM SO SORRY THAT THIS HAS HAPPEN TO YOU SUCH A GREAT PERSON BUT JUST KNOW IT IS CHASE LOST !!! THEY HAVE NO IDEA THE CUSTOMER THAT THEY HAVE LOST AND HOW MANY CUSTOMERS YOU COULD HAVE BROUGT THEM !!!

Wow-this is so wrong. You and anyone else you find that has had similair experience need to team up and go public with this.

I’m so sorry, Tiffany. It’s infuriating. I’m a lawyer, and when I get mad, I don’t usually cry, but I get very assertive. If this happened to me, I would have been very very assertive. I suggest that you keep your savings in personal accounts, rather than business accounts. Generally the less info you give banks (and others you deal with financially) the better.
PS: I’ve been reading your blog since I saw you and your hubby a while ago on Extreme Couponing. I’m a fan. Thanks for all your helpful couponing tips.
Tiffany says
Thanks so much Ann! I know! I normally don’t cry. I think I was soooo tired from traveling and soooo frustrated at that point. Then it just made me madder that I was crying over it in front of someone! Sheesh!

We had an issue with them as well 10 years ago. So bad a problem we had to file chapter 11. We had a consolidated loan through them. Husband paid the bill, placed it in the mail. 2 weeks later we get a notice that we breached the loan guidelines by failure to make on time payments. (we had bever been late on ANY payments with any of our accounts) THE VERY NEXT DAY we got a USPS envelope containing the remains of the bill and payment that got caught up in the machines at one of the post offices. Husband called over his lunch and after 45 minutes of phone run around he was told that instead of 3.4% int. we now had a loan of $20,000.00 with 29% int. HOLY COW! are you kidding me. We went as far as contacting the Post Master at the post office that the return came from got an written certified letter as to what happened. They wanted no parts of it. I had just lost my job as well. We had means of paying this outlandish monthly bill. The only thing that we knew to do was file bankruptcy. Thanks Chase for screwing our lives up over a very simple and out of our control mess!
Jennifer says
I would be contacting my state representatives immediately.

We closed our accounts there 2 years ago. Reasons: poor customer service and rate hikes so we took a hike to the local credit union. Now there’s a place that understands customer service, no checking fees and a coin counting machine you can use as much as you want without a fee, free coffee, water and cookies and THEY KNOW ME BY NAMe!
Take a lesson BofA, Chase and Wells Fargo!

I would write to the Houston Chronicle, Get on the news (you have connections) Channel 2 does Cllick 2 investigates–sue them, whatever you have to do. I have been with Chase for over 9 years and have never had a problem, but I know that’s not gonna last long with big business the way it is. It’s all about a buck. We did lose our Continental Rewards without knowing. Do what you have to do to get a reaction.

Wow that is unbelievable. I’m so glad I dropped by mega bank. We have a small local bank now.

I have a friend who is a bankruptcy lawyer who has testified in court against many of the banks who have forged documents in their rush to foreclose on homes – she cites Chase as one of the biggest offenders. I have another friend who had a mortgage with Chase and once when they were late on a payment her husband made comment about to us about how he couldn’t understand the way the customer service agent on the phone spoke, (she had put him on mute, not hold) which she overheard and then started yelling at him and then hung up. AFter that they started calling them at all hours including weekends and Sunday mornings whenever they were even a few weeks late on a payment (coincidence?). Then Chase tried to say that they were behind on two payments instead of one and started foreclosure proceedings against them although they were only one payment behind and had called in about it. They got a lawyer who proved they had made the other payemt and got the foreclosure stopped, but they ended up selling anyway and moving not long after – they swore that the next time they bought a house they would NEVER use Chase – not even for a regular account.
martha says
Hon, my husband got “the business” from AmEx back in the late 1998 to the point, over the phone, overseas, he cancelled his account and said a couple of polite shamings. They called back and asked if me if he could be bought off by them putting $200 on his card to use. So he unbroke up with them! You get your letter together for the credit bureau, and forget about it. Some little no body at Chase knows you kick ass at saving and got jealous. Just because people work where there is money, it doesnt mean they have any “cents” of their own. 🙂
Tiffany says
Martha, I am laughing my butt off! That is really funny! Thank you so much for commenting!

THANK YOU for using your forum to share this!

That is terrible but thank you for sharing. Hopefully, sharing this helps someone else not choose Chase. I just don’t know what has to happen to make these big companies be held accountable for their actions. Heck we are held accountable if we have any type of slip up with them.

That sucks that they did that to you and that they don’t even realize how they treat people. I wish they would do that undercover boss show there and see how badly people that aren’t millionares are treated. My money might not be alot compared to these CEOs but its my money and its not like it was just handed to me for free we all have to work for our money. At least you got your money back that is all that matters, now just write them making sure that it doesn’t damage your credit or business line of credit

My daughter also banks with Chase and CANNOT stand them!! She was originally with the bank that Chase took over (can’t recall the name). After the takeover, there were 2 lines inside the bank, one for the old bank customers and one for the original Chase customers. Each and every time she had to go inside the bank, no one would wait on her until ALL Chase customers were waited on! Finally, after a few months, there was only one line to use.
Janell says
I am so sorry that happened to you. I am with Wells Fargo and someone took maney from our account and we went in and they took care of it before we left.

We had something similar happen to us with Chase. We had a new account with them and had only deposited a hand full of paychecks. We had gotten a loan for something and when we deposited the check, they put our whole account on hold and refused to release any funds until the loan check cleared. Even after speaking to the loan company and verifying it was a valid check they still refused. They said we were committing fraud! It took 4 days for the check to clear and even after it cleared it took another 10 days for them to release our money. Luckily we hadnt moved all of our money over from the bank account we were going to close. After the money was finally released we cleared the account and went back to our old bank. We then got the same letters about how we were going to be reported to the credit bureau and all that jazz. That was a year ago, and so far nothing has been put on our credit. I think its just a bullying tactic to make you stay.

About 25 years ago I got a credit card through Providian, about 10 years ago, I got a second card with them. They were bought out by Washington Mutual. Washington Mutual was bought out by Chase about 4 years ago. I have a balance on the original card but had paid off the second card. Over the years I had gotten several credit line increases but I still had the 2nd card paid off and kept it for emergencies. About 2 months after Chase bought the accounts they, out of the blue, cut my credit on the paid off card in half. The letter I got said something about my not being creditworthy by their standards. I wasn’t happy but I didn’t close the account. About a year later, I was moving and needed to put the deposit for the moving van on a credit card. U-Haul wouldn’t take a debit card. So, I dig out that completely unused card and go to make the deposit. No go. I call Chase and get told that they have “closed the account for lack of activity” a mere week before. I say “well, just re-open it”. They refuse saying I can APPLY FOR A NEW ACCOUNT. I asked why I never got a notification that the account was being closed and was informed they have no obligation to do so… that they can close accounts any time they want at their discretion. Oh, and the INVOLUNTARY ACCOUNT CLOSING shows up as a “ding” on your credit report. It shows up as something like “Closed by lender” which many people read as “some sort of abuse by the consumer caused the account to be closed”. The account closing took $1000+ of “available credit” away from me and cost me about 50 points on my FICO score.
So, I had to write a letter to be put into my credit file with the credit bureaus which, honestly, does not help at all. Bottom line… I THOUGHT I was doing a good thing by being responsible and paying off a card. How very, very wrong I was. I can’t wait to get the other card paid off so I can stop doing business with them. Of course, it will hurt me to close an account (in terms of FICO score) but at least I won’t be dealing with the unethical people at CHASE anymore!
Tiffany says
See they are really bad! That is exactly what is going to happen to me!

After working for both Wells Fargo and Bank of America for many years, I can tell you, they are both worse. I would say 90% of banks treat their customers this way. I absolutely loathe the banking system seeing they way they get away with treating their customers and then holding them for ransom. Credit unions are the only way to go.
Jodi B says
i can understand why they ask the security questions to prevent fraud, but asking questions that people rarely know is impossible. I have trouble with my husband’s family names because i’ve never met them… and his dad is dead! so i would definitely be screwed with chase. Luckily, i have USAA and love them. We also bank with regions but don’t care for them. I wanted to close the account with them when they starting charging $14 a month for 2 charges, but they got rid of them.

I’ve considered opening an account with them since they just opened in my town, just received an offer to open the account today – I just tore it in half and chucked it – I don’t need that kind of hassle – my little bank with their occasional mistake (and doing everything possible to fix it quickly over the phone) doesn’t seem so bad anymore.

So, sorry this happened to you. About 11 years back I banked w/ them and I wen into the branch to order some checks, well they said they would have to deduct the fee from my checking account and send me my box of checks. Well they took the fee but I never got any checks. Chase swore to me they mailed them to me and maybe it got lost in the mail and that was not thier fault. They stated that I can order a new box and pay another fee. I stated “are you for real”? They were no help at all. I was 19 then and young and did not know any better. I thought that banks could just charge you for whatever they want because you were using them as your financial institution. After my mom heard about that she went to Chase Bank and of course she yelled and they gave me my money back and my mom closed my account out. My mother is one of those types of people if you burn her once thats it there is no second chances. I have been w/ Compass for several years now and love it. Never had any problems. CHASE BANK SUCKS!!!

I LOVE Usaa!!!!!
They bend over backwards for their customers especially with the insurance. I would buy stock in them if I could!!!

WOW!! I knew that Chase bank was bad, but WOW is all I have to say. I used to Bank with them about 8 years ago and their Customer Service sucked then and I guess it’s at an ultimate high now…..I switched to Bank of America and LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

I haven’t had any problems with them, I have had a chase credit card for a few years, and my wife just started using it for her everyday purchases. We have been paying it off every two weeks on payday, and we have already earned enough rewards on it to get a $50 Gift card or check in less than 3 months. I also opened a checking account because they were offering $150 for opening a checking account, but I don’t use this as my main account, and only deposit the amount in there from our paycheck that I need to pay off the card every two weeks. I do most of my banking (Car loans, main checking account etc.) through 2 local credit unions, they are both very nice and are willing to work with you if there is a problem. I was even having a hard time paying my auto loan because I lost my job in 08 and then stepped right up and offered to re-amortize the loan to make my payments less than 1/2 what they were without even messing with my 4.9% interest rate.
Sharon says
This is totally ridiculous! And how on earth did they get the answers to the personal questions that you could not answer? Aren’t you supposed to choose your own security questions and answers, not them???
We keep getting offers from Chase to open an account and get $50 if we abide by a few rules, like either having paychecks directly deposited or keeping a balance of $1500 minimum for 6 months. We were considering doing this, but not anymore! Thanks so much for the warning about Chase.

I used to work for a “big box bank” and I hated it. Customer service did not seem like a very high priority. It was always about how many services we could force on a customer, wether that wanted them or not (sales quotas). I now work for a small locally owned community bank for the last five years. I love it. The decisions are all made locally. The customers always get to talk to a living breathing human being, not a automated system. I think everyone should look into supporting their local banks. After all I happen to think a lot of “BIG BANKS” already have enough of our tax dollars. I mean the execs had to get their million $ bonuses. They certainly do not deserve my business.

I used to work for Bank One then it was bought out by Chase, they ask crazy security questions, they only treat you like royalty if you have over $50k in your account. Currently bank with Bank of America and I love it <3

What an ordeal! I am so sorry this happened to you. I am a blogger and now I am petrified, LOL Thank you for sharing.

I agree with Credit Unions being the way to go. I have only been burned by Wells Fargo and I will refuse to do any business with them ever again.
So Sad that customer service has become less and less of a practice for most major companies.

I understand your frustration, and I can attest by my own horror Chase Auto Finance story that Chase Banks policies whether intentional or not treats its customers with no-common sense. All we ask for is just a little respect and dignity when it is needed most.
Tyler K. says
This would not of happened if you banked with a small bank, with all the chase horror stories online, why risk it?
J says
I am literally going through the exact same thing as we speak. I have never heard of something so ridiculous. Honestly if they don’t want my business, I don’t want to be a part of theirs. Never have I been more frustrated or dissatisfied with a bank. It’s stories like this though I wished I had come across before opening an account.

It sucks but comforting that I am not the Only one dealing with Chase and the restrictions for NO REASON! It has been been 13 days and still can’t get a straight answer from Anyone… When Chase Finally closes the account, do they really send your ALL your funds?? I am being told about a Suspended account that the Funds just sit in??? SOOO Frustrated .:(

We all need to get together and sign a petition against Chase! They are the biggest bank in the US and they know it! That’s why they act so cocky! They will shut your account down for anything without calling u first. I have done biz with all three big banks in America. 1)JP Morgan Chase 2) B.O.A. 3) Wells Fargo! If u are banking with any of these banks I warn u now do not put your funds that u depending to pay your bills with because u might wake up one day and your account might be froze! I have a legit tax service and had biz accts with all three banks and all three shut my account down because they thought I was money laundering! Not only did they shut the acct down they sent my money back to the IRS! They were mad that we was cashing people refund checks. The funny thing about it was the IRS gave us the ok to do so. I’m talking bout tens of thousand dollars being sent back! Not only are they playing with my money but everyday working people who depend on there checks to pay bills. To make a long story short I had a big debate with all these banks letting them know this is not a (loan or a line of credit) the IRS sent these checks and they know exactly who they are sending them too! So why would u say I’m laundering I had to get a lawyer just to get people back their hard earned money. So please stay far away from these banks it’s not what u think! Learn from me and the rest of the piss off people who are committing they are all out for YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!

I agree with these post about Chase completely. I just checked my account and I was overdraft even though I paid the negative account(negative 3 cents) last night (before 12 am). I called Chase and they said that the money had not cleared yet (this does NOT sound right), how could the money not clear when it was a transfer from my other account. I am looking into a credit union

Oh my! I am going through the same thing right now. I opened an account with Chase on June 8th with a 100 deposit. When I called to activate my debit card, they informed me that I had to go to the bank with the two forms of I.D and proof of residency. Which is fine. I went to the bank with my credentials only 7 days of opening my account, the personal banker explained that my account has been closed and the $100 will come in a form of a check. I’ve called so many times to try and get answers why my account was closed and when I will be receiving my check. After about 6 times of calling and accusing me of withdrawing the $100 already, they told me they sent the check and it will take 7 business days. It’s been about 2 weeks since they told me that and I haven’t received my check. I don’t know what to do!
MJ McC says
Oh! I am sorry you went through that. I have just had the same experience today. I received a letter saying that my checking account was closed. No reasons. We called to the guy who helped me out to open it. He was very kind and he tried to get info which was denied. Then I called and I guy had such attitude that we asked to talk to a supervisor. Finally nobody knew why the account was closed. The supervisor just told us that my account seemed to be “high risk” but she said that she does not know how they can say that I am “high risk”. But the people on the phone and the banker told me to go before Friday to get my money, otherwise they will send me the check. I am glad that I went right away.
I am not a US citizen I am just moving here so I have no records of any kind related with banking. So how am I “high risk”? The supervisor explained that it does not have to do with my status in the country either, so I do not know. I am waiting for my residency so I can open a bank account at USAA. My husband is a veteran.

The same thing just happened to me – got a letter from Fraud Investigation saying my LLC account was closed. I just have some money sitting in there and haven’t even used the account for a year. I call them, they say they can’t tell me why the account was closed, just that it was considered a risk for Chase Bank. Ridiculous! I’ve been with them on my personal account for 35 years – guess it’s time to find a new bank altogether!
Mike Jones says
I hate Chase too. They closed my account for no reason.
Ted Jones says
It looks like the problem is your comment spam. The bank’s broken system was found your site and some “bad” keywords on it.
If you have comment spam on your blog (or “bad” keywords) your bank may close your account because their automated system is “thinking” that you are high risk customer

I second your opinion. Chase sucks!! My daughter has had an account with them for two weeks and after sending her a letter welcoming her and confirming her home address, they immediately froze her account. When she called them, they told her that her address was not confirmed. After going into her branch and showing them their own letter, they told her they still couldn’t release her funds and told her that her request would be reviewed and she had to wait two weeks to know the outcome. In the meantime she has no access to her own money!!! How can she pay her rent? By the time they have reviewed her account, she won’t have an address to confirm!!

I hate Chase too. Unfortunately all my credit cards are chase. I will be canceling all of them and getting anything else but chase! I’m sure it’s not going to make a dent on them, but I believe every little act counts towards making a difference. Again, I HATE CHASE!

I Have a business Account with NFCU and they did the same thing to me… They wouldn’t even give me my money in my account. It took months to figure it out. And even the lady at the bank didn’t know what was going on. Chase SUCKS, IN SO MANY WAYS .FIND A CREDIT UNION OR SMALL BANK. You proboly didn’t hold enough money in there or didn’t use it. Business accounts are not savings. So you proboly did screw it up, but Chase customer service is POOR!!!LIKE MANY OTHER BIG BANKS .. THEY CAN CARE LESS ABOUT YOU
Jason says
I believe this 100%. I had the same exact experience today. I attempted to login to my Chase account to check if a check cleared.
A warning message on the mobile app instructed me this account was suspended and to call. This pissed me off, so I called.
An account representative patched me in with Loss and Prevention. I had to answer 3 questions, which I knew the answers to. However, these questions go far back and would challenge any person. I guess that is what they mean by challenging questions. Not so in my case.
This lady verified my account and left to check the status. She returned and told me my account is permanently closed and they would send me a cashier check for the remaining balance.
Are you serious? Closed?! I went on blast mode. I’m a U.S. Veteran who opened this account under that option. I receive direct deposits for my job in that account. I also have life insurance deducting from this account.
What makes this funny is that I’m a copywriter by trade. Based on Chase abusing their customers, the truth of their unethical actions will travel far. How in the world can you cancel an account with a positive balance and no returned check fees?
Chase is absolutely wrong to treat all of you this way. They don’t deserve your business. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.
A month ago, I received a random text message alerting me if I was dining at a restaurant 3 hours from my home. I replied bad “No” and called Chase. Apparently, a girl had access to my Chase bank card number and had ordered Chinese food at a Clearlake restaurant for $93. I called this restaurant to report this matter. I told the restaurant, “whatever you do, don’t release this food to this girl. It is fraud.” What do they do, they release the food and the girl leaves them a nice tip that they’ll never see. It’s unauthorized!
Chase seems to have problem protecting your account. How in the world can a person gain access to your credit card information when you never use that card? What if you have a large amount of cash in your bank? Even worse, you have mortgage, rent, car payment and other credit card payments deducting. Then, some scammer gains access to your account and wipes out your account.
This is Chase for you. They close accounts without calling the account holder ahead of time. An awful bank that doesn’t deserve your business. Let it be know that Chase will close your account and have no explanation for this. You have to wait for a letter in the mail with your remaining funds.
The best thing I ever did is withdraw my money yesterday to cover my bills. If I didn’t do that, I would have be cut off and had to wait a few weeks for these funds. It would steamrolled all my bills.
I guess I’m fortunate this happened one day later. A blessing in disguise. I’m still on storm mode right now with this poor treatment. Chase closed a U.S. Veteran’s account down. They are supposed to help Veterans get jobs and open bank accounts. I’ve had this account for the past 3 years.
Chase is the most unethical bank out there. Who does this to hurt people? Chase does.

JP Morgan Chase is the most horrific heartless bank out there.
They closed my mothers account without notice and reason. She is close to 90 and a holocaust survivor
Her social security and German pension checks were returned to their respective sources causing a great deal of effort to retrieve them. All of her auto pays were bounced and it was only because she had some spare cash at home that she did not go hungry. This was done with 2 days warning and additionally her accounts were frozen. She is also legally blind.
Nazi Germany behaved much the same way.
Chase is ruthless and will stay away from them for the rest of my life. Mind you my mother was an account holder with them for close to gift years.
A lot of good that did.
They are despicable !!!!!

Chase bank really sucks! I went in there one day to open a bank account. Building was mostly empty, only two people in line in front of me.
I spent 20 minutes standing there waiting as more and more people came in The entire building became a giant crowd. Everybody stopped trying to form a line lone ago.
I was so pissed that I ended up driving across the street to PNC, and was helped nearly immediately. PNC is much better than Chase.

I also hate chase they always had me in a negative balance for some reason and they would post things to my account 7 days later after I had already spent the money. I did not understand why they were doing this. I argued with them to take off the od fees and they were only able to give me back 2 out of the 12 that were on my account. I told them that I had money saved in that account In which they legally took all of my savings. I know how much I have in my account and how much I spend but why are they so slow to post transactions on the account almost a week later. Instead of letting me know that my account went negative they just give me od fees. SO I switched bank’s to Simple and now I;m happy no more OD fees or crazy fees.

This happened to me too! With Chase and TD Bank! only the problem was Im California and the nearest TD branch is in Pennsylvania! They take your money but charge you fees to hold it which is embezzlement and larceny – CALL the FBI bank fraud!
