Video: Kroger Mega Event Shopping

 1

by Tiffany on February 21, 2011 · 50 comments

Because we have a mega event going I wanted to take a little video of how I shop a mega event.

This mega event is a little different in that they are giving you back $3 catalina’s for every 10 qualifying items you buy in addition to the $3 instantly off.

Because you have to buy 10 items to get the $3, you need to keep track of how many items you have in your cart.

** Just keeping it real in this video! Didn’t fix my hair, didn’t get dressed… packed all day and ran to the store!

which kroger was this at? The one I normally go to off Gosling and Research only allows 5 of each kind of coupon per transaction.

Tiffany February 21, 2011 at 1:43 pm

Tomball. Rayford will allow 10.

Tiffany February 21, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Actually I usually go to Gosling and do 10. If it is a 10 for $10 or a mega event where you have to buy 10 how can they tell you that you can only use 5? I have never had them tell me that.

Yes, they will take more than 10 coupons, but will they double and triple more than three of the same coupons at a time? Please clarify this. I am willing to drive a little bit further if the check out is easier.

Ummm this is where it gets tricky! The OFFICIAL coupon policy for the texas region from kroger says that they will ONLY double or triple 1 of each. Now, anyone in this area knows that Gosling and Rayford will do 3 of every like coupon.

Valerie Brennan February 21, 2011 at 2:41 pm

On that last comment, did you mean to say that Gosling and Rayford will do MORE than 3 or they will just do 3?

Reply

Tiffany February 21, 2011 at 2:53 pm

No they will ONLY do 3. Sorry I made that confusing!

On the campbell’s coupons, did you say you purchased them online? What does that mean? I have never heard of purchasing coupons. Can you include some websites or which offers you feel are worth that.
I was sick last night and sent the hubby with a short list to Kroger. He decided he wanted bigger bags of fritos so we ended up with 18 mega event items instead of 20! Ugh!

Tiffany February 21, 2011 at 3:19 pm

You can actually take your receipt back and switch items and get the $3 off!
Yes I bought the cambells soup coupons online from ebay. You can also use thecouponclippers.com, there are many other places online yu can buy them.

Do you have the address for that store and do you know if they still double and triple coupons?

Reply

Tiffany May 4, 2011 at 11:52 pm

They do not, I am sorry!

I went to Kroger tonight, and the manager offered to check me out since there were lines. He told me they no longer double coupons, they took their banners down. After I about had a heart attack, he asked the cashiers (yes the manager had to ask the cashier) They do still double, remind me not to ask to talk to that manager when there is an issue.

My Kroger at Kuykendahl & Woodlands Parkway (Indian Springs) will also double or triple up to 3 coupons. I never have any problems there and they always go out of their way to be friendly and helpful!
Tiffany, thanks so much for putting this video together in the middle of moving. Gosh, I wish I had your energy!
Love your site :) !

I ran into my Krogers today to grab a few (30) mega sale items…I had 1 good surprise and 1 bad surprise. The good surprise was that the betty crocker fruit snacks has a general mills catalina on top of the mega sale catalina…so I got a $3 daytona catalina and a $3 general mills catalina. The bad surprise was that the cashier informed me when I was checking out that the $3 daytona catalinas couldn’t be stacked, you can only use 1 daytona $3 per transaction. Sure enough, right on the bottom in fine print is 1 coupon per order. GGRrrhhhh…..this messes up a whole lotta plans I had. :( I was so sad to hear that.

Some bad news? My sister just went to Kroger in Baytown (houston area) and they are only allowing 3 like coupons to be double/triple per day…and it is tracking it by your reward card. She tried to do another separate transaction and the coupons did not double. Have you guys heard of this? They said she had to come back tomorrow.

Reply

Tiffany February 22, 2011 at 1:18 pm

I have not ever heard of that?!

Reply

Veronica February 22, 2011 at 1:45 pm

The cashier tried to override and double the coupons but could not get it to come out right. They called a manager over and he said that it is now being tracked by Kroger card. I hope this is not true.

I’ve had all kinds of problems when I went to Baytown Kroger (Garth Rd). I’ve never seen that happen.

Last week my kroger, Rayford said that they will only accept 3 like coupons? She even pointed to the note for me. She also told me that they do not take bogo coupons printed from the Internet.

I need some help understanding my Kroger coupon policy! Can someone help!? I contacted Krogers for their coupon policy in my region and they wrote back with this explination:

Double Coupons:
o Manufacturer coupons of $0.50 or less will be “doubled”.
o Manufacturer coupons over $0.51 will be redeemed at face value.
Ø This does not apply to “free,” Kroger, Retail Food Store coupons, electronic coupons on the Kroger Plus card, or items prohibited by law.

So to clarify….I can’t use two 1.00 coupons to double? They will only double if they are less than .50??

General Coupon Policy:
o Limit one (1) manufacturer coupon per item purchased.
o Limit one (1) store coupon per item purchased.
o One (1) manufacturer and one (1) store coupon can be used on the same item.
o Coupons cannot be used on “free” items.
o Expired coupons are not accepted.
o Amount refunded cannot exceed the cost of the item.

When ever I get the Kroger coupons in the mail, they will never stack a mfg coupon with it…..

I think it should be the same across the board for the whole corp…it makes unnecessarily confusing, and not fair! I never seem to get any good deals at my store. I’m still spending a between $150-200 at the store per week. :(

Tiffany February 22, 2011 at 10:17 pm

Jenn,
What region are you in?
Correct. Only coupons .50 and under will double. It doesn’t look like you are able to have any triple. Any coupon .51 and over is face value. So a $1 coupon is a $1 coupon.
Some of the Kroger coupons in the mail are actually manufacturer coupons. Look at the top and make sure it says, “Kroger Store Coupon”. If they are not combining ask at the service desk for help.
Your policy is pretty much the same as mine except that any coupon $.39 and under will triple. But the rest is the same.
It would make it easier if they were the same. I am not sure why they do it that way. Don’t give up, ask questions, watch shoppers in your store and look for someone who is couponing and ask them to help you. I think the best thing is to find a friend to coupon with, that way you can bounce questions and deals off one another.
Don’t give up!!

I totally agree with the buddy system. Even though I have been couponing for a year now, my sister-n-law and I shop together on Tuesdays. We live in the country and drive an hour to shop in the “big” city that has the 4 stores that we like to coupon in. (Target, Kroger, CVS, and Walgreens). It makes for a really long day, but I enjoy my “girl” time and have a great husband who babysits all day for me to be gone. Definately find a buddy to coupon with…not only would it be helpful it would be fun!

Tiffany,
I’m not sure what region I fall in. I know I’m in the Columbus division….if that helps, lol?! Thanks for your help, I appreciate it! So my next question, is do they automatically double, or do you give them 2 coupons for one item?? The cashier and I were in a debate about that the other day. She would not accept 2 coupons, she said the coupon automatically doubles. I didn’t have time to argue with her. It is really discouraging, and every cashier is different too. Makes me want to pull my hair out!

Tiffany February 23, 2011 at 9:39 am

Jenn,

O.k. I see now where it is confusing. You can only use 1 coupon on 1 item. When we are saying the coupon doubles or triples it means that the value of that single coupon is doubled. So for example, if the 1 coupon is $.50, and the item you are buying is $1.2, after you scan your Kroger card or…..

Hang on… send me an email and I will give you my phone number, I want you to give me a call so i can explain it better! Email me at mylitter@mac.com it will be much easier that way!

My net total after kroger plus savings, coupons and catalinas good for my next purchases was just $82-down from the original total of over $250!

How exactly does the mega event at Kroger’s works? Do I have to get 10 items of the same? or can I combined them? example: 1 tomatoe soup, 1 can of corn, 3 rotels, etc. etc. Help, I’ve just started cuponing and want to get better at it.

Reply

Tiffany March 16, 2011 at 2:33 pm

No, you only have to have 10 of the participating items, but you can have 10 of each if you want. You can combine them! just keep track of how many you have you want to make sure you have multiples of 10.

Just last night i went to the kroger near my mother n law on 336 South,I had bounty paper towels Prices at $5.99 had a e/c $2 and m/c $1 it worked, schick razor priced $5.99 had a e/c $4 and a m/c $2 and it worked, bought 5 fruit roll up and used .50 off each one (doubled and had e/c on top of that). They would not take my e/c and m/c on for my other items in my cart tide stain release $5.99 e/c$3 and $3 m/c, old spice deoderant $1.99 and body wash $3 had a $1 e/c for each and a buy one deoderant get body wash free. Please explain to me why some stores are not doing the e/c with the m/c? What stores here in the woodlands do?

Reply

Tiffany March 16, 2011 at 7:10 pm

most e-coupons are manufacturer coupons. Ethically they should never be combined in the first place.

Sunshine March 16, 2011 at 2:52 pm

The cashier and manager said its not going to work because its makeing the store owe me money and that they could get fired for doing it. Kroger is monitering the registers at all locations and that they would know what cashier did the transaction and fire them because they are not allowed to do it.

Reply

Sunshine March 16, 2011 at 2:55 pm

Now I know that i have done this before at the is kroger and never once had a problem. I talked to the man guy and said that if kroger started doing the e/c with the m/c that he didnt know. I have heard that kroger is doing it because the e/c is a store coupon and can be used with a m/c. Now has anyone here heard different?
