I have to admit the Kroger ad this week looks pretty good. They are having a buy 10 get $5 Mega Event this week, that looks really good also. Finally, a good mega event! Remember you need to buy in groups of 10 to get the $5 off instantly when you swipe your Kroger card.
You can see my Kroger Southwest coupon policy HERE.
You can also watch a video of how to shop at a mega event HERE. Remember this was when they doubled for me, but the idea is still the same.
If you do not have a big stack of coupons I wanted to point out the above deals that you can do just by printing a few coupons.

I was looking at my Kroger ad and then saw your post and the prices were different. I got on line and pulled up the weekly ads for Conroe, The Woodlands, Spring, etc. and the prices are higher in Conroe on some items. An example are the Go-Gurts are $1.69 in Conroe and $1.29 in The Woodlands (when you buy 10 items). Thats .40 cents on each box….it adds up a lot! I called one of the Conroe Krogers and the Manager told me that the prices are lower because they are competeing with the new HEB Grand opening. I asked if Conroe would honor their prices and he said “No, but we may offer other in store specials that they don’t offer.” Maybe this is common practice, but it seems as if Kroger keeps pushing thier customers away. I guess I will either shop when I am in The Woodlands or just price match at Wal-Mart to do all my shopping. Thanks for the heads up!
It has nothing to do with the new HEB…For 2 years now I have been shopping at the Magnolia Kroger because they are cheaper then the Sterling Ridge Kroger in The Woodlands and I live next to that one..but it is cheaper for me to drive a few extra miles and get the better prices.
I’ve noticed different pricing for the same exact items at Walgreens, also. Monday I went to a Walgreens in Bellaire, TX paid $1.99 for Gain dish washing soap. And last night, I went to a Walgreens near my house (Pasadena, TX), the same exact soap was $1.79…20cents add up here & there. — I was doing the Gain laundry & dish washing soap deal Tiffany had posted earlier this week.
I live right by the Sterling Ridge Kroger too and had NO idea they were that much higher that Magnolia…Wow thanks ! I may take a drive down 2978.
I think those entrees are part of the catalina deal where if you buy 5 of them you get $2 back too!
dont forget the chicken 10lb bag for 39 cents/lb limit 2 with 10$ purchase
I wonder if the Porter Kroger is cheaper than our Kingwood Kroger? hmmm….
I don’t know, but I can tell you the people are nicer. I don’t like that manager at night in Kingwood. I never noticed a price change, but I will have to look. I was boycotting Kroger, but a lot of good that did now all of Texas is feeling it. For a while I was comping everything at Walmart in Porter (they were even honoring Houston papers), but I heard that last week they stopped comping even things the stores in New Caney (unverified).
Not sure if Porter is cheaper, but I have to agree the people sure are nicer. It seems to me that Kingwood Kroger is not couponer friendly. Last night I purchased the boulder chips (3 of them) and 6 of the nabisco cookies, and 1 Marzetti dressing. I was only allowed to use 1 of the potato chip coupons. The store manager came over and scrutinized the coupons i was using and said 1 per purchase even though the coupon states 1 per purchase of item. I tried to explain that it means I can’t use 2 Q’s on one item but she didn’t agree. I did get a free Gillette for men face wash clearanced $1.39 and had a $2/1 MQ. But it sure did leave a bad impression on me about Kroger. Ever since they stopped doubling Q’s I only go there if I have to. I couldn’t find boulder chips at Wal-Mart Market or @ Porter Wal-Mart so I had no choice.
Ever since Kroger stopped doubling and tripling, I only go there when absolutely necessary. I will just price match if I can. They really do seem to be trying to get rid of their couponers. So disappointing.
Tiffany,
Can you touch on how price matching works at Walmart for the mega event?
My Walmart didn’t require the 10 item purchase, they would just honor the end price.
Do you really have to spend $10 to get the chicken for 39cents?
My Krogers here in WV still double coupons and the prices are different then yours in TX.
Yes, I’m just going to go to Walmart now and price match. I do know that my local walmart will not price match meats unless it’s the exact same cut as written on the label. Also a couple months ago they didn’t honor a price match for a 99cent per pound split chicken breast that Kroger had, as they carried Pilgrim’s Pride and not s store brand of chicken breast. However that was still when you had to bring in all your ads and show them ; it may be much easier now that they don’t make you show them the ads item for item. Tomorrow I am going to Walmart and see if I can price match on some mega event items and then use the coupons. It ought to work but if it doesn’t I’ll post here with my whine, LOL!
Just went to my Krogers on Cypresswood and Champion Forest. The Hefty ziplock bags, pizza, and Kraft salad dressing were all anywhere from $.50 to $1 higher than the prices on this list. Where do I get the lower price sales add so I can price match at Walmart?
Jill, The prices I use when I do the matchups come from kroger.com when I put my zip in 77380. How much were the items at your store, I am curious to know what the difference is? Kroger always claims the prices in Houston are the same at a store in Spring as they are in Baytown. I guess they are going back on that also.
You don’t have to have the ad anymore at my walmart, so as long as you know the price; some checkers don’t even ask for where but I tell them anyhow. If you’re really unsure, perhaps you could view the add in Tiffany’s zip code, and print the screen shot if you think anyone might give you trouble. The policy and commercial says right now though that you do not have to have the ad with you to get the price, they’ll match a competitor, period. The only thing I have had issues with is when they price it in a different way, like there was some ground beef they were selling at 2.58 per package (which happened to be a pound) and they wouldn’t let me price match the exact same kind because it was priced at 2.49 *Per Pound*, rather than per package. I wouldn’t have been lying if I said it was 2.49 and just ommited the per pound part, I think I’ll watch what I say next time. Anyway, who knows how long this walmart price matching w/out an ad thing will last; sure saves me a heck of a lot of time though. I am grateful for the lack of hassle, I really am. OH- and there is a limit on how many items you can price match, but a supervisor can override it and did tonight with no issues, so you might want to call ahead and see what your particular walmart policy is on that in case you might be more comfortable splitting it up into two purchases. I hope this helps!
Oh yeah; other thing that occurred to me was that where I live, Kroger prices can vary between two stores just several miles apart, so in that case I think it is completely fair to price match the store with the lower prices. Just a thought.
