I have waited 11 mo. for fresh blueberries!!! My kids eat them by the pound. Last year at the end of the season we picked 17 lbs. in about 45 min, they had gotten really good at picking them. I thought I might be finally able to put some in the freezer, less than 8 hours later my kids had eaten the entire 17 lbs!
Out of the 102 lbs. we picked last year, only 3 lbs. made it to my freezer!* Do you have any idea what the diaper of a baby who has only eaten blueberries for 2 days looks like??? I am not going to take a picture, you will have to use your imagination!
To find where to pick your own fruits and vegetables Google, “pick your own in ______ ( your city)” that should help you find some. If you are in the Houston area, here is a site to find places to go Pickyourown.org
This is a post from last year…
We headed out yesterday and the kids got to work. They have a little business with returning customers every year, they pick blueberries and sell them to their “clients”.
Rush was a big help this year…. they should have weighed him when he came in and when he left. I left about $5 extra to cover the 3 lbs I think he ate while we were there!
We were only there an hour but they picked about 20 lbs. We will be going back almost every other day for the next month until they are gone.
If you are in the Houston area and want to go to the best blueberry farm there is, here are the directions:
Pioneer Blueberry Farm:
Take 1-45 north almost to Conroe, exit loop 336 south and go right or east at the light. Take 336 east until you come to 105. There is a gas station and McDonalds at the corner. Take a right and go east. At this point set your odometer! Take 105 east for 8.6 miles. You will be looking for a little street sign that says Pioneer Lane on the left side. Turn left on Pioneer Lane. Ed Harger’s blueberry farm is about 1.2 miles down on the right side. He is open sunrise to sunset every day. Blueberries are $2 a pound this year, he uses no pesticides.

Haha, I know what a 10 month olds diaper looks like after eating a whole bunch of blueberries. LOL I can’t wait to go blueberry picking. Our daughter loves them so much (she’s almost 5 now). 🙂

Oh, man! $2 a pound!!! That must be heaven!! Here in NW Arkansas, U-pick is at least $10 a pound, depending on where you go it can be up to $17!!!! And if you just go buy what others have picked–$22 a pound or more! YIKES! Just think–your 102 lb. would have cost you over a thousand dollars!
