When I posted the deal at Target about the sippy cups, a reader ( I am soooo sorry I don’t know your name!) left a comment on how to get the smell out of sippy cup. I tried it, it works!!! I had a nasty chocolate milk, curdled, smelly cup under the day bed. I was going to toss it. But… I remembered her comment and tried it. Brilliant!
Now, I don’t normally just toss sippy cups and not wash them. But I worked on this one for a while and it still smelled. Here is her comment:
Seriously, you can get that smell out with bleach water – just fill them up and let them soak for a few days. Then wash them until the bleach smell goes away…LOL
We get skanky sippee cups into my store all the time (it’s a children’s consignment store in Grand Rapids) and I just soak them awhile and then clean them good and voila…no more smell.

I also have learned a secret that I love, which is using tablets for cleaning dentures. You have to use the name-brand, but stick half of a tablet in a vase or bottle (filled w/ water) overnight, or in a bowl of water that has all the parts to a bottle/sippy cup that are starting to get moldy, smelly, etc., and voila.
In the morning you have a minty fresh, clean stuff. I love how it gets off those awful water rings on vases.
Thanks for posting this little tip! I try not to throw them away, but sometimes they are just past saving by the time we find them and all the treasures growing inside. I'm going to try this out the next time!

I wonder if it's entirely safe to use bleach on something your kids are going to drink out of? Maybe it's better to let it soak in super hot water and dish soap for a while?
That is a good point Lisa, I am not really sure? In this case I had let it sit and scrubbed forever, I just couldn't get the smell out.
