This week at school we are having luau week. The teachers were encouraged to wear something luauish… I have NOTHING that is even close. I was going for capri’s and a bright colored shirt, but all my capri’s are jeans and have holes in them (placed there on purpose, to charge you more I am sure) and I don’t want to wear those to work.
I was inspired by my friend Jen {from Balancing Beauty and Bedlam} to start looking at the thrift stores and Goodwill again for great finds. I often shopped there in the past and found amazing bargains. But I stopped going thinking I was too busy to spend the time looking through the racks, because it is a treasure hunt! You have to LOOK!
The Goodwill here in my town has been an awesome place for my husband to find some great deals, we have walked out of there with Banana Republic and Polo shirts like crazy. All mostly new and in perfect shape. We have even found 2 pairs of Keen water shoes for him and my son. The kids and I have mostly been striking out sadly.
Yesterday, desperate for something to wear for luau week, I ran in and looked quickly at my Goodwill, and found the dress you see above FOR $6!!! It still had the tags still on it! The brand is Annalee + Hope, I have seen that brand before online, they have cute stuff! I think it was perfect for luau week and I will be able to wear it again and it is super comfy!
Do you shop at Goodwill or the thrift stores? What is the best thing you have found?
P.S. I HATE to have my picture taken. I am always behind the camera for a reason, you should have seen my husband yelling at me to stand still and “no your butt doesn’t look fat, OR your arm. Tiffany, seriously, that picture is fine!” Guys don’t get it!

You look gorgeous and the thrift shops here in The Woodlands area are fab! I have a found Hurley board shorts, designer kid’s clothes, and even a Vera Bradley bag. You do have to be diligent though and dig.

We go thrift store shopping all the time! My 10 year old asks me as soon as we go in what the color of the week is and will seek it out. She is my bargain girl!

I purchase used/old furniture, usually very cheap, and recover them with material. I resell them and always make $ off of it. Goodwill can get very expensive, I try to avoid Goodwill and go to the smaller thrift stores in the Spring area. They are usually 60% off + the whole stores most weekends. My husband recently purchased me an adorable Brighton look-a-like purse w/ silk paisly lining for $4!

I found a Tahari Suit in my size for about $10 at a Thrift Store, and I also try and find designer items new with tags to take to my local consignment shop and re-sell.

I have picked up some great deals at Goodwill or other thrift stores. My all time favorite was a $6 dress from Metro 7 (Walmart’s brand, probably $25 to begin with) that fit me perfectly at 7 months pregnant. Not only was it an awesome price for something nice to wear to my company’s Holiday Party, but it made a prego feel a little less like a whale! ๐

That looks so good on you! Usually luau is supposed to look tacky lol. Nice find. I like garage sales better usually clothes are a dollar or less. But I did rip my pants going to work out a couple weeks ago and found a pair of $50 tag still on pilate pants for 3.99. Cheaper than coming all the way home and changing!

Hot Mama, you look great girl!! ๐

I walked out with 59$ pants (tags on) for 2$. Our Value Village does a 2$ Thursday for special colors. Tons of Old Navy for the kids for less than 50$. That was enough pants and shirts for 6 days of clothes. Going again in a few weeks for summer clothes.

Oh my goodness- I LOVE Goodwill! I clean up there for my boys! My older son has to wear a coat and tie to school and I find the best stuff there for him- Ralph Lauren khakis, needlepoint belts, Abercrombie and hollister. You just have to dig, walk away when there’s nothing, and buy when it’s available. I buy khakis whenever I see them, and also a size up. I also buy furniture there and paint or cover. I am hooked!

I wish I looked as good as you! I LOVE the Goodwill. Especially on Monday afternoon when all their clothes are half off. Last time I went,I found a brand new pair of little girls GAP jeans. I think I paid $1.50 for them. That was awesome! I have also found brand new Strasburg dresses for just a few dollars.

There are 12 Family Thrift Centers and 3 Outlets throughout the Houston area – http://www.familythriftcenter.com. At the outlet stores, everything starts at $1.75 on Thursday and goes down $0.25 every day. So by Wednesday everything is $0.25. It seems like everyone has found out about the outlets’ secret, so I now usually go Thursday-Saturday. I have found Kate Spade handbags in good condition, name brand skirts, dresses, shirts and blazers, and a couple of party dresses for last minute events.

There are places that have cheaper prices than Goodwill, but still a great place to find great deals. I went in the night before Go Texan Day ( I feel like i do the last minute rodeo shopping every year) I found Justin ropers for my son. I also like to look thru the belts, they can get so pricey sometimes. A big find was the maternity clothes they had mostly Motherhood and Old Navy, that was a big help! The last thing I got was a lil tykes swing/slide fort toy for 29.99 and checked it out online and they sell it for 139.99. They even have a senior citizen day where if you are with someone who is of age you can get the extra discount too! I would make a habit of just going by there once a week just to do a walk thru, you never know what you will find!

I shop at Goodwill a lot. People often ask me where I buy my kids clothe sbecause they are so well dressed. About 80% is from Goodwill and the rest I shop online with coupons. The Goodwill on Spring Cypress and I45 is great. It is not by my house but I will drive there since they have excellent stuff. Bought a pair of new shoes for $6.99. I bought the same brand at Dillards for $140.00 a couple of weeks earlier.

I have gotten tons of Ann Taylor/The Loft, Abercrombie, etc clothes from the $1.49 bin! My husband and I go to Goodwill on a weekly basis!

I shop at Angel’s Attic occasionally and have always found great stuff. Just this last trip I found a Magnalite Professional grade saute pan (the kind that’s 2 inches deep) with a lid for $15.00………it seemed like a lot until I got home and googled it and found that they regularly sell for over $100.00!
Yes, Tiffany, you look great in your thrift store dress!!!

I am a faithful iheartthemart.com follower, and I have just started viewing mylitter.com, and I just had to say, I can not believe you have had 7 beautiful children! For one, you don’t look a day over 25 and you have such a gorgeous figure! I have 3 children and you inspire me to take care of myself, and keep up on my workouts. Hey, if you can do it, so can I!
Thanks Tiffany,
hyedi

Hyedi! Thank you so much! I have my Mom to thank she looks young for her age ๐ Also I gain about 50 lbs each time I have a baby and this past year is the first time I have not been pregnant or nursing in 15 years ๐ I finally felt like I lost some of that baby weight and feel like myself again.

Which are the best stores to go to to find women’s polo shirts and other items for work, in the North Spring/Woodlands area? When I stop in, I just seem to be there at the wrong time.

Tuesday I went to St. Vincent de Paul, a thrift store in my town, and I bought an almost brand new pair of Volitiles flip flops for $5. I bought a pair at Shoe Carnival and it cost me $30 and that was on sale. The soles of the shoes look brand new, and no wear on the bottom. I was so excited.

I like Salvation Army Stores, I think you can even find better prices than at Goodwill Stores at least in Missouri!
