Last August, I bought some Breast Cancer Awareness Mugs on Kohl’s for very ( I mean VERY) cheap. My kids are filling them with candy and we are attaching gift cards to them. I hate to do the candy and mug thing to the teachers as I know they get a TON but weirdly it worked out that way this year. The discounted price I got on the mugs allows me to get them a larger gift card which is what I am sure they want anyway!
This is an idea if you have some candles, air fresheners or other small gifts around.
I typically use them as Teacher or Primary teacher gifts just to say “thank you” randomly throughout the year. As with any gift sometimes the presentation makes the entire gift! I feel a little guilty giving a candle or air freshener that cost me only $.20 I would never want to just give it “as is” so I try and dress it up! Plus, when you attach a gift card it makes it really nice.
I quickly printed off this morning a business card size, little message with my kids pictures on them. I just framed them with card stock and laminated it. Then punched a hole in the corner and added a little ring.
Next, use the little clear party bags, tie with some ribbon, add some kind of “greenery” and your little tag. I think it turned out much cuter than just sticking it in a bag, it took almost no time and cost me $.60 total with the candle!
We took a poll last year and what teachers wanted the most was gift cards and so that is what I try and do.

You should fill the mugs with dry erase markers and/or other office supplies. Teachers always need these. This why people should buy extra school and office supplies during the “back to school” sales. Buy when you find it dirt cheap and save them in a box in your closet year round. Then when you need a quick inexpensive gift for a teacher (or any one else) you won’t have to run to the store and pay the high prices. Perhaps you could even buy them a magazine subscription and put a note about it on the tag.

I teach at a high school, and we constantly are in need of paper, pencils and other supplies, like kleenex and hand sanitizers those would be GREAT gifts!
I have a dozen friends that are teachers and EVERY single one of them have said that they hate getting “teacher” related items. They say that they love lotions, spray, personal items or anything that smells good. Also, gift cards are great too! If you are in the Rayford Sawdust area, I have a small gift shop on Rayford Rd. (next to the RR tracks – Toni’s Treasures) and I have great things for teachers! 🙂
As a former teacher, I agree teacher love gift cards and personal items for their desk. As a mom with three kids and each kid has several teachers, gift cards become costly. I go to Dollar Tree and buy cute reusable containers…teacher always have uses for these. I buy a roll of clear plastic there too. I put lots of handy items inside, either from my collection of drug store deals or items from $ Tree. Examples include pocket tissue packs, hand lotions, lip balm, package of blank note cards, mints, gum, snack foods, flavor packets for water bottles. I wrap up in plastic, tie a ribbon on top. They look cute and teachers love them! My kids are always so excited to give them to their teachers. Sometimes I feel a little guilty spending so little because most items were cheap from deals but it would cost a non-couponer alot to fill the baskets. My secret!

I went to the dollar tree and bought a 48 ct. crayon package (1.00) and with things I already had made 2 teacher appreciation containers. One was a jar I already had and hot glued the crayons all around it and the other was a small oatmeal box that I hot glued pencils that my kids refuse to use, it took about 48 pencils. I also got a 3 pack package of gum (1.00) from dollar tree and put one in each container and had my son write something they liked about each teacher.
I Made Teacher Assort-“mint” Bags… last year and they were a HUGE hit
All you need to make these little bags are a variety of “mint” candy… (life savers, andes mints, mint gum, peppermint patties, tic tacs ect…)
I spent under $14.00 on all the candy at the dollar store (and I got TONS of candy). I was able to make 10 bags with this, which makes each bag less than two dollars to make.
I filled some plastic bags (that I already had) with the candy and tied a ribbon around the top (that I already had). 🙂
And attached this poem to each bag

I just finished student teaching and had the hardest time picking a gift for my professor and co-operating teacher! I wound up making two flower pots with flowers in them they said “thanks for helping me grow”

I also made a gift basket for my co-op – had shampoo, condition, body wash, lip balm, lotion, soap, candles, and candy all from my stockpile! I then bought a couple little things (I think I spent under 5.00 for the basket and items inside!!)
I also saw ideas for a “relaxation” basket (or put it in a beach pail) with sun tan lotion, sun glasses, a magazine, beach towel, etc. That could be made for around 15.00 (not bad!!)
i made chocolate cover apples, i put them in a cute bowl with a tag and a curly bow i tell you they look better than the ones at the mall for 8.00 a piece {not including the bowl hahaha} the chocolate i bougth at hobby lobby{40%coupon} 3.50 , at dollar tree bowls to put the apples , 4 x 1 dollar ,the clear bags for party favors 1.00 , m&m , nuts , heath bar, , sprinkles i already have in total around 8.00 for 8 apples!!! i hope the teachers like them hahhahahha
Ok … dumb question…. please excuse my naivete. Why all this talk about teacher’s gifts? Are these end of year thank you gifts? I was raised in another country and we were not allowed to give gifts to our teachers, they were considered bribes.
I have a two year old who goes to preschool. His teachers are great. I got them gifts for Christmas. Is it customary to give gifts this time of the year at that young a age as well?
It’s not required, but a lot of parents here in America want to thank their children’s teachers at the end of the year for teaching them. So people look for small gifts to give them to say thank you.
It’s the end of the year, so there is not much time to bribe for grades 😉
