How to save money on Ink printing coupons!

You have started clipping coupons and printing them, you are saving a TON of money, then you have to buy MORE ink! This can be frustrating, but in the long run you are still saving money using printable coupons. But there are a few things that you can do to save yourself some ink money.

Here are a few tips:

  • Print coupons in 3′s. If you do this it takes up all the space on the paper and no ad print, which can take a bunch of ink. When you print one coupon at a time, often you’ll get a big ad at the bottom of the page.
  • Each coupon can be printed twice.  After you print the coupon once, click your back button to print another coupon. If you can’t get back to that page, go back to the original link and try again.
  • Do not print in Greyscale, it actually takes more ink. Set your printer to Black & White to save ink. I DO NOT print in black and white. I have found that many places will not take them unless they are in color.
  • If you decide to refill your cartridges, get the refill done ASAP. If you wait too long, the remaining ink dries out
  • Get a laser printer! You will use less ink! One trick that I learned about was that if you get the low-toner warning signal, at least with my printer, you can take a piece of tape and cover up the little window that the printer uses to determine if your toner is low. I figured if I did that I’d get a few more days out of the printer, but it’s been like 2 months ( Thanks Katie!)
  • Although laser printers may cost more initially, they tend to be faster, use less ink, and are much cheaper on a month to month basis (i.e. cost of inkjet cartridges versus laser toner cartridges)
  • Use Garamond font in a small size…it takes less ink than other fonts.

What tips do you have?

I as well have a laser printer and you are right about the savings. Now one thing I do now after many many wasted sheets of paper is that when I print a coupon outside the coupon pages where you can get multiple per page is I cut the paper sheet in half that way the coupon will only print on top and just a bit of the info that comes along with must coupons this way I’m not only saving ink but paper because I can have 2 coupons per piece of paper.

I think I need a laser printer for Christmas. When are you giving one of those away free :-) ? I have a cancel print/ spit the paper out button on my printer, so when I am printing one coupon that has an ad come after it I hit this button as soon as the coupon is done and skip most of the ad! Then I flip it over and print it again. Every little bit helps.

How do you print coupons in 3′s? When you hit the print button it starts printing right away…

well in 3′s only if you are doing from smart source, red plum or coupons.com I learned this the hard way. Every time you use this sites make sure you select your coupons in 3′s like 3,6,9,12,15 etc… This way you’ll have 3 coupons per page instead of 1

I’m sorry but I still understand how you can select to print in 3′s…??? The coupon is automatically sent to the printer once you click on it…???

Are coupons still scannable if the black ink is running low and they print grey?

I print my coupons on recycled paper. You know, emails, flyers, copies of something that you dont need anymore and would have just thrown away…I use the back side of that paper.

I have been clipping coupons like crazy! I now am printing them also, but I don’t know where to get the best coupons from. And how exactly can I get more food coupons?
