How I Organize My Coupons

**UPDATE – I finally got a big enough binder that I am only using one binder and not two! But I am still organizing it the same way.
In the past month, I have been stopped almost every time I am in the store and asked about my binders that I keep my coupons in.

This is a very quick and rough video explaining how I organize my coupons.
I buy anywhere from 4-10 Sunday papers a week, depending on the coupons. I have one delivered to my house, I also “steal” my parents inserts! On Saturday’s they sell the early edition Sunday paper, this one has the coupons in it. If I get lucky my $1 store has them for only $1 on Saturday, if I don’t get there in time I have to run over to Walmart and pay $1.75. I will sit in the store and look through the coupons to decide how many papers I want to buy. If they have lots of Buy one get one free items or coupons I like I get more. You can also go online and google “Smart Source” and “Red Plum” to find out ahead of time what coupons will be in the paper.
I use a binder and baseball card holders. I cut each coupon out and file them by sections of the store. I put the binder on the spine in the child seat and walk through the store flipping to that section as I am in each aisle.
These are the tabs I use in my grocery binder: Dairy, boxed, frozen, drinks, snacks, canned and jars, deli, non-food, animals, Mom and baby, baking, cereal, cleaning, paper goods, bread and vegetables. These are the tabs I have in my cvs binder: shaving, lotion and body wash, teeth, deodorant, shampoo and hair, make up, and pharmacy.

I try and go to the store without kids late at night. I NEVER go between 3-8pm with kids, it is a nightmare! If I go in the morning with my little ones or if I have to take all of them I always give them a job to do. The older kids hold coupons, all of them can help me look for items even the little ones. I try to make it fun for everyone or I end up yelling!

Many times I have had a bigger child push a cart while I shop, or even each of us push a cart if there are specific deals going on where I have to go through the checkout multiple times. Kids are smart and they want to help, it keeps them busy and makes them feel important. I try and have them use their math skills and figure out the prices in their heads.

If you have any specific questions please ask, when I have a chance to make a better video and include everything that I forgot I will!

I have been trying to locate the baseball card holders. Cannot find them on WalMart or Target’s websites. Where did you purchase them?

To find the baseball card holders. at Target it’s in the toys section, and Walmart has them in the playing cards usually near the front of the store. If you have kids as them where the Pokemon cards are, you will usually find them there.

THe only place I found them was at a craft store like Micheals. They will be in the sections where scrap booking is. They run about six dollars per package and there were only six pages in one package. Good luck.

How do you know when to dispose your coupons so that you wont have to many?

Reply

Karin May 10, 2011 at 10:16 am

I have found the best place to get them is at hobby shops that sell cards (baseball, Yugioh, Pokemon, etc). They will normally give me a good deal and with the money I save on couponing I allow my son (11) to pick out one pack of cards for himself. I have a good relationship with the owner closest to our house. This past weekend they had a “free comic book day” and were giving 20-50% off all items in the store so I stocked up ;)

Is Kroger the actual name of the grocery store? We have QFC’s and FredMeyer where I live, and they carry Kroger brand products, is that the same?

Reply

Tiffany May 12, 2011 at 8:51 pm

Yes Kroger is the parent company.

FYI: if anyone goes to a safeway or VOns they just cahnged their coupon policy too. they will only double one of your like coupons. I asked if you put them in differnt transcation and the cashier said yes.

So you can stack a manufacturer’s coupon on a store coupon?

Reply

v2four May 26, 2011 at 4:45 pm

yes you can. I just did it at kroger yesterday, randall and walgreens today…just an fyi, Randalls has followed the corporate policy that Safeway and Vonns use…they will only double or triple one like coupon, and the others are for face value.

Where is the best place to buy a good zip close binder with clasps on both sides? I think I saw that one in the youtube video but don’t know where to buy one. Also, if a store only allows up to 20 double coupons at a time, do you shop some each day?

my double sided ZIPPERED binder is awesome.
Its like two 3 ring zipper binders stuck together.
Target – $20, well worth it. “Case It” is the brand. I found it in the standard office supply isle about a month ago. It comes in purple/grey: blue/grey: or pink/grey.
I keep food items on one side and everything else on the other.
They also sell he baseball card holders up by the front registers.
