I know that many of you want to help, have been affected by the recent fires, or are waiting to see how you can support others with any kind of relief effort. There is a lot going on this weekend as far as fundraisers and donation drop off, so I wanted to give you a heads up if you are interested!

Here, north of Houston most of the fires are contained, the air is heavy with smoke though and that will last a while. Bastrop is still struggling and so is Austin. Personally, my Uncle and his wife lost their home and everything in it outside Austin in Steiner Ranch. They had 20 minutes to evacuate as the fire came over a ridge and jumped a ravine into their backyard. As they drove out of their driveway a 30 foot wall of flames was taking over their property.

The Texas Wildfire Relief Fund
Financial donations for the State Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas are needed to help equip volunteer firefighters across the state with clothing, supplies and safety equipment. AUSTIN — As wildfires continue to burn in Central Texas, there are several ways to help out the victims and donate. To read more go HERE.

• KVUE is teaming up with Randall’s Food Stores to raise funds for the victims of the Central Texas wildfires. It’s called the Neighbors in Need Wildfire Relief Drive. You can go to any Austin-area Randall’s and donate using a scan card at the register. All proceeds will go to The Red Cross fire relief in Central Texas. In addition, KVUE is sponsoring a benefit concert Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Nutty Brown Café. For more information, click here.
• Secure, tax-deductible online donations to the Texas Wildfire Relief Fund can be made by visiting, www.txwildfirerelief.org.
• Austin Christian Fellowship is taking donations of bottled water, sports drinks, non-perishable snacks, toiletries, work gloves, heavy duty trash bags, flashlights, batteries and pet food. Donations can be taken to 6401 River Place Boulevard.
• Palm Valley Lutheran Church at 2500 E. Palm Valley Blvd., Round Rock, will be collecting donations Wednesday through the weekend from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day.  They are working with the Red Cross and Austin Disaster Relief.
• Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc. Disaster Response (LSSDR)is accepting monetary donations for the fire victims here:www.lsss.org/give-now
• Cash donations should be made directly to the Red Cross of Central Texas.

I have been hearing a lot about the new Savings Star program and I wanted to get a little more information before I posted about it. I have been doing some research and it looks like a really good program, I also have a friend who has been doing it and is getting paid from them.

This is how it works:

Savings Star has ecoupons that can be added to your store’s loyalty card (like you already do with Cellfire etc.) and when you purchase that product at participating stores (CVS, Rite Aid, Albertsons, Dillon’s, Kroger, Ralph’s and many more stores) the eCoupon amount is added to your Saving Star account. When you reach $5, you can redeem your savings for Paypal or Amazon gift cards.

It is easy to do:

• Sign up for Savings Star HERE and add you stores loyalty card numbers (you can find these usually on the back of your cards)
• Click and add ecoupons to your account
• Go shopping and when you purchase an item that had a Savings Star coupon, the coupon amount will be paid back to you!
• When you get $5 or more in your account cash it out for cash via Paypal, your bank account or for Amazon gift cards!

This is a great way to be able to “stack” more coupons on items you buy. You CAN use a paper coupon along with Savings Star.

There are 24,000 stores that work with Savings Star, including CVS and Kroger in my area!
