It was pointed out to me by my Father that some of my earlier China posts had really bad grammar and run on sentences. I apologize in advance! Between sightseeing and blogging I am stretched thin!
Today we went to “the trash man” and did some shopping. He is basically a hoarder and will not sell much of his stuff, and if he decides that you can buy something he won’t bargain at all. I saw these water baskets and FELL IN LOVE. I ended up buying the 3 red ones on the right for 70 RMB each ( about $17 American each). The next question is how am I going to get them home….
On Saturday, we went out to a migrant workers children’s school to help with a boy’s Eagle project for scouting. Last fall my Dad and some scouts painted the outside of the school and now we were painting the inside. 58 million children are left with grandparents, while their parent travel into the cities to find better work. When they are able to take their kids with them, there is no school for them because they do not have the correct “papers” to get into the regular schools. They set up these migrant schools to educate their children.
This is one of the school rooms that needed to be painted.
This is a picture of me that I actually like because I had no idea my Mom was taking the picture and I was talking to my son.
My husband and some of the men were building a fence to go around a little garden that the migrant workers had built.
Some of the children from the compound ran in and started helping to paint.
This is our service project group!
On the way home we stopped at Walmart. Paul was fascinated and we had to drag him out…
The store was set up just like it would be at home. They even had Great Value Brand!
There were a few familiar items.
There were also a few not so familiar!
The best part was all the samples, you would have thought we were at Sam’s Club!
Checking out.
I really like to see the way that people live, and try and imagine what it would be like for my family. Most places have stores on the bottom and apartments on the top. It is very expensive, and most people live with extended family.
I loved this guy with chickens and we made my Dad hang out the window and take his picture.

Try to fit the buckets into eachother.
Or have your kids put their backpacks inside of them. That way you only have on piece of carry on luggage. Wrap a plastic bag around the outside so they don’t scratch.
You can do it. I carried a handwoven silk carpet all around Marrokko. At some point I was ready to throw it into the ditch….but it made it back to Germany. Best souvenier is jewellery. It is light weight and unique.
Have fun on your trip and stay safe.
