We all know our kids go through a lot in their lives, some more than others. What if there was a tiny little pup that could brighten their day just a little and help them through those hard times? You guys aren’t going to believe this but Lola is a YORKIE, yes you read that right, a Yorkie and she’s a working Therapy Dog! What got me is they say “Lola goes to classrooms and instinctively knows which child needs her the most and instantly connects with the child” which just blows me away how intuitive a small little dog like that can be!
Lola the Yorkie has gotten around to be seen on multiple news outlets like Good Day Sacramento and Good Things Utah where she was shown to help children with Autism even! You may be asking yourself what makes her so awesome and why are her books all the rage right now? Well simple answers ladies and gentlemen:
- Lola is a 5 pound Yorkie– very RARE for therapy dogs. They told her she wouldn’t make it- she’s too small. But in true Lola fashion- she beat the odds! A GREAT lesson for kids!
- Lola books are unique in that they incorporate REAL pictures of Lola, NOT illustrations. VERY rare in children’s books. Marcia drew from her experience because studies show kids respond to real pictures more
Now here’s a funny for you guys, after receive this package with Lola the stuffed pup and the four books below, my son snuck them to school after telling me his teacher had asked to see them. Apparently the teacher also read them to the entire class! Way to go Lola!
As a parent who also read these books I can tell you they are a easy read for smaller kids as the pages have 1-2 sentences max and of course have REAL pictures featuring Lola! What I especially liked was the first page of the actual books has a little inspirational saying “from” Lola as well as her paw print signature which I think is just adorable!
Right now there are FOUR books in the Lola the Therapy Dog Book Set:
- Lola Goes to Work: Meet Lola, a little terrier with a big job. Children will identify with the feisty Lola as she struggles going to school, passing tests, and finally achieving her Big Dog dream. If Lola can make it in a world of Great Danes and Labradors, so can anybody who’s feeling like a runt. The book shows children how through hard work and determination, anyone can achieve their goals.
- Lola Goes to the Doctor: Lola is nervous about going to the doctor, but discovers she’s a bigger dog than she thought.
- Lola & Tattletale Zeke: Tattling is a huge issue, especially in kindergarten/1st grade and there are no picture books dealing with the subject. Lola and Tattletale Zeke offers a jumping-off point for classroom and family discussions.
- Lola Goes to School: Children will identify with Lola as she faces first-day-of-school jitters.
