Well, it is about time. Unfortunately, when people are not able to “police” themselves, they will have their freedom taken away and will now have to be “policed”. I feel very strongly about this as I am sure you will be able to see.
Amanda sent me in this photo of a sign at her Walgreens here in The Woodlands. I have seen another blogger in Idaho post about this same sign at her Walgreens as well. Walgreens has problems with people clearing the shelves because unlike CVS they do not have a card system to limit the amount of the good deals that people can buy.
Walgreens in NOT a warehouse, it is not a grocery store that restocks each night. It is a store that is primarily these days there for RX and items you are just running in for. They happen to have a great RR program. With there being so many new couponers, some do not have any idea about “coupon ethics and manners”.
All sales come around again, to build a nice stockpile takes time. It does not happen overnight, it might take a good 6 months and then you are to a place where you do not need to be running out all the time. But to clear the shelves every Saturday night for whatever reason ruins it for other people, and now your freedom gets taken away and you have to be babysat.
Unfortunately TLC’s show made people think that to be a “extreme couponer” you have to clear the shelves. This is NOT the case. It makes couponers look like hoarders, cashiers and store managers mad, and other couponers frustrated. As long as people are selfish and greedy, expect to see more limits at stores.
What are your thoughts?
Kayla says
I absolutely 100% agree with everything you said!
Christina says
I was at Walgreens last week and was told that I could not do multiple transactions due to the people clearing the shelves. I am new to couponing (about 1 month now) I am glad to see that the stores are now making their deals fair to everyone. I LOVE this site and I am very thankful that I came across it!!!
Tiffany says
They should still allow multiple transactions, just only basically 1 of each sale item.
Valerie says
I tried Walgreens for the first time today (only buying 3 items) and was told they didn’t allow multiple transactions. I just wanted to do 2 transactions so I could use the RR right away. She said she would let me today but that they have stopped because of Extreme Couponing and some people who come in multiple times in one day (how will they police that…sounds like they need a card system like CVS). Anyway, it stinks for those of us just buying normal quantities to be treated like we’re doing something wrong.
Jen says
It’s sad that it has come to this. However, on the plus side, it will allow for those of us who are not shelf clearers to actually obtain some of the great deals. I’m lucky each week to score one deal because the shelves are always cleared.
Patti says
I am so with you on this one. It is very frustrating when we try to use the gift of couponing in an ethical courteous way, only to find that others have messed it up for us. I really hope that all you have done to get the word out about coupon ethics will bring about a change. With a Walgreens on just about every corner, it makes no sense to me as to why someone would feel the need to get every last sale item. Thank you for posting this, and if you don’t mind, I would like to share your post with my little group of friends.
Sherri Holland says
I truly blame the show Extreme Couponing for the problem. I truly feel these “new couponers” will fade out as fast as they faded in. I am so fustrated that they have acted like this. Thanks TLC for the big problem it has created. I cant believe people are so GREEDY out there. Thanks for posting to let me get my fustrations out.
shelly says
i agree. couponing is a lot of work and people who are not dedicated will tire of it very soon…hopefully, not before they ruin it for everyone
Jeff says
I disagree, I feel that it is GREEDY to not want others to learn how to coupon and to stretch their incomes a little farther. I have been couponing for a long time and 1. have never complained when there were “new couponers” and 2. sure as heck have seen cleared shelves and missed out on great deals LONG before Extreme Couponing came around. It is frustrating to not get what you want when you want it, but laying blame is a dangerous business to get into.
Stephanie says
I agree with you Jeff. I have been couponing for a few years now and I really enjoy it. But the cleared shelves were happening long before the show came out. I am glad that they are starting to limit people but I think it would be better if they didn’t have to because there was some self control.
Vikki says
I am actually glad to see this. 99% of the time the shelves are cleared when I get there early on Sundays. And I only shop for my family and need maybe 2 of the items..not 10. I wonder what exactly will stop people from several trips in one day.
Catherine Bennet says
I don’t think it is necessarily a bad idea. If you want to get technical just price match at the local Walmart or Target for the items you want. That is what I am going to do because my Walgreens is always cleared out. I do have a few RR deals that I want to do, but they are few and far between now.
Emaida says
Agree! I ran to 3 different Target, Kroger and Walmart stores in otrder to use that .01 Carefree coupon that exires today. No luck and wasted gas!
Tracy says
I think its a great idea! I shop maybe a couple of times a week to get just a few things I need at Walgreens. Their coupons always state Limit 3, so that is what I do. I know there are a lot of people who do clear the shelves, and I have only had that happen to me once when the Bic Soleil razors were on sale there. Evidently what the people who cleared the shelves didn’t now is that with the coupon in the paper Food Lion had them for sale for 3.00, so I got my razors at FL for .99! And, I only bought a couple at a time!
rachel says
I am glad they are doing this – I am lucky to see that my Walgreens which is new and fairly out of the way from the city that all of the RR and deals at Walgreens were still there this afternoon. They need to do this at every store. Especially since us who work and get off at 5ish have to hit the stores such as Harris Teeter and Farm Fresh in the afternoons which is usually after the extreme couponers have hit the stores and cleared the shelves. In my time as a couponer which is almost one year, I have only come across one shelf clearer and I stood in amazement as she justified herself to me buy telling me that all of the tp and paper towels she was getting were for various members of her family. She was courteous enough is ask me if I wanted two of them(only two now lol) as she was clearing the entire shelf of these items. I was hoping the look of disgust on my face taught her a lesson but I doubt it. All in all save some for the rest of us – what are you going to do with 54 bottles of hot sauce anyways!!
Anna says
Only two?
I suppose she thought she was generous by sharing. Ick. Shelf clearers suck!
Fia says
Unfortunately, like in many other things, there are people that take things to extreme. My grocery stores have limited 4 of same type merchandise for years. I was amazed when I watch some of the those shows that show someone buying 100 of bottles of hot sauce. That would not be allowed in our grocery stores.
My Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid never have enought stock of any product, so it easy sometimes to clear the shelf.
Cori says
Hooray! I am almost never able to get out to the store on Sundays, and had stopped even trying to get Walgreens deals because they were always sold out. I admit that when I go out shopping I may hit up the several Walgreens stores in my area once each, but that’s quite different from taking every doggone item in the store! I hope they start this in my area.
Kristin says
it’s about time! I hope Walgreens in KY gets these soon. I don’t get to go shopping on sundays bc the hubby works and i don’t want to coupon shop w/ 3 little 1’s…..so that means most of the time I don’t get the great deals at wags. I went to 3 Wags in 2 days trying to get the Clean & Clear….no luck 🙁 if you have 20 coupons you want to use, by all means pre-order! but don’t clear the shelves, the rest of us want to save $$ too.
Lea says
Well said! It is so frustrating for those of us who go into stores for deals and there is nothing there ( usually on a Sunday!)…
Sad everyone just can’t behave themselves
Beth says
I too am thrilled they started this. I work also & my hubby works at a local homeless shelter where I go and do the dishes..so I’m lucky to get started by 7pm on Monday.. I know that’s late..but when I went to 6 stores & all were sold out..said had been so since opening..it was maddening! I know that it’s fair game & that folks now want stockpiles. That’s fine..but I overheard a lady telling her friend that she was made because she was only able to find about 50 of product X and they would bring $6 easch at her garage sale..so she HAD to have at least 200! SHe was also mad that 3 stores REFUSED to order them special for her! I had to bite my lip !! Made me ill..I only wanted 2!
Elena says
I am happy that they are going to start this policy. I get frustrated when I work hard and get a list together with my coupons matched up to the sales and go in early on Sunday morning to find that over half of the things that were on my list are already gone. And I only get one paper a week so I only have one coupon so I am definitely not clearing the shelves. Hopefully this will help alleviate this issue. Yes I am one of those people that started couponing because of the TLC show, but I knew better than to go crazy with the coupons!
trish says
I want to thank you for all you do. I to am a new couponer thanks to watching you on extreme couponing, but I am not greedy at all. I do not clear shelves and would never. I have stopped by 3 seperate walgreens just to get a few of the things I am trying to stock up on and not on the same day. I would rather use a little extra gas to not clear a shelf as to share with everyone. Karma would bite if I was greedy. Anyways I am happy they are limiting items! That is awesome! My child support stopped this month suddenly and this is truely helping out my family! Thanks for all the great information!
Beth says
I blame TLC’s Extreme Couponing in large part, because they continue to show people clearing shelves. I mean, they actually say proudly ‘let’s clear the shelf’ and I noticed the episode with the twins recently where they cleared a shelf and then looked in the camera and said ‘and we don’t feel bad about it.’ GRRRR! I mean, I don’t know how in the world my family (which includes 3 teenage boys who are hearty eaters) would ever be able to go through 100 bottles of mustard, 100 bags of croutons, etc. It’s really sort of gross. Like many here have said, there are deals each and every week. Buy a few and move on- whatever you’re buying will most likely be on sale again somewhere soon!
Monica says
I agree!! The show shows them clearing the shelf AND shows us their stockpile. What else are we to assume that that’s how they built it? Especially when they mention they have been couponing for a year, or 2 years.
Sends a clear message.
Tina says
Yea, it is frustrating to get up at 6am on Sunday morning to get to Walgreens only to find that they are already sold out of the Clean and Clear body wash and they never got any more in….so my three coupons for B1G1 expired before I could get any. I would have been happy with just 2, because I like the product. I don’t understand when Walgreens has a B1G1 sale and they don’t have the product even after getting two merchandise trucks that week. I even tried other stores in my area….and I didn’t find this product to price match at Walmart.
Cristina says
You know I completley agree with what your saying, I live in a small town and we have three Walgreens here and everytime I want to purchase something it’s sold out. I think they should limit to an extent, if someones being greedy then they should limit. I just don’t understand people the sale last a week why be stingy.
Pedro says
This is a good idea to be fair to everyone. My Wife and I are new at couponing and with 4 kids and a very limited income. We have found it hard to find any deals at walgreens and CVS usually the shelves are cleared Big waste of gas and time. Today we went to Riteaid and the cashier was very rude an item had a limit of 2 we had three and when we questioned it not being posted we were told by another cashier they resevere the right to limit anything. Could tell by the reactions that they have a couponer that has been giving them problems. We won’t be back to that store.
Connie says
I think that NOT taking more than we need is a beautiful thing and hopefully will be a value that we as Americans embrace again on all fronts; forced or otherwise. ( :
Monica says
Agree! Take what you need. If you need 1, take 1, if you need 10, take 10. You need them! Not everyone needs the same things but there are some things EVERYONE needs. What can you do? Need less? Change needs?
erin says
i agree with the greediness aspect, but I saw you on Extreme Couponing, that’s how i found your blog, and I saw inside your house and the 100 boxes of cereal you showed us along with the shelves and toilet paper under your childs’ bed… why in the world did you plan another shopping trip.? what could you have possibly needed?? do you have an extra freezer and refridgerator outside?? i would hope so.
Tiffany says
I planed the trip and went shopping for the show. That’s the purpose of the show, to show you shopping.
Katie says
Preparedness is not the same as greediness. I have a year supply of food on my shelves to be prepared for unexpected problems, such as my husband losing his job or getting sick and being unable to work, when a hurricane comes through and everyone runs to the store to “clear” the shelves in panic, I get to sit back and stay clear and let those that are not prepared get what they need. I have been couponing for over a year now, I do have quite a stock of some things, but I didn’t get them from clearing shelves or greediness. I have “gradually” enjoyed getting a deal here or there and have been able to “stock up” on some things. I have 7 kids (ages 3-18). There were those on the “extreme couponing” show that were 2 in a family and had rooms and rooms of wall to wall items. If you have a shelf here and a shelf there (which if I recall, is how Tiffany had her house) that is a year supply of preparedness built up over time. Being prepared means that we can let someone else obtain the government help and we will be self sufficient.
Vicki says
I am not Mormon, but I have many friends who are, and I have learned a lot about their emergency preparedness plan. We could all learn a lot from Mormon’s. I don’t know Tiffany’s denomination, I am just stating information about emergency preparedness that we should all do. They do something with a 1-month food supply, 3-month supply and a 1-year supply. So your goal is to get a 1-year supply, and you rotate your 3-month and 1-month supplies so you are always using your freshest products. Stock-piling is actually a smart thing to do like the other posters stated. 100 boxes of cereal won’t go very far in a household of 9. When I get things that I won’t use, I will buy them, but I donate them, as I know many couponers do.
Anna says
I hope you also remember she has 7 children… so it only makes sense that having that much cereal around will really only last a month. Six bowls of cereal a day is almost an entire box.
DENISE says
While shelf clearing TOTALLY annoys me, this is not the only factor at play here. Walgreens is HORRIBLE about supplying it’s stores. AND I know that many times ‘my girl’ will order and the order doesn’t come in. Grrrr.
For me, I am tired of the lack of stock and the unfriendly coupon attitude exhibited at Wags. My remedy? I take what deals I can to match at Walmart. A great example was the Splenda deal. Wags had it for $2.99 and the q was for $3.00. It was to also produce a RR. The register reward would have been great but we use a lot of splenda, so the main deal was more important to us. We had a battle at all Wags nearby us. They did not want to change the price to $3 or even to manually enter the q at $2.99. They would make NO ADJUSTMENT. I took the ad to Walmart, went to the manager and told him I wanted to match it but didn’t want to clear the shelves, would he order. He did. How I appreciate the new policy and coupon friendliness at Walmart.
Monica says
Yes, the manager at my store commented on how the Gillette razors ($.89 after coupon and RR) have been out of stock for a week BEFORE the deal even started. When they realized the deal was on they tried to order some for the store but they are scarse. If they get replens is 1-3. He was frustrated he couldn’t supply them but he said, Had I known they’d be a hot sale, I’d have prepared for it. Many times I don’t know of the upcoming sales. Not being prepared for my customers is very frustrating.
So, yeah, I think their stock is not supper big to start with, as oppossed to Target or Walmart.
DENISE says
Monica,
Am I reading that you work at a Walgreens?
Candice says
We have a family of 7 🙂 Walgreens usually has gr8 deals but as all of u have been saying the shelves are always empty 🙁 we have 8 Walgreens in our city. So I just don’t understand how this could be?? People r way to greedy 🙁 we get what we need and nothing more. Everyone deserves to save $ not just those who get there first.
ryan says
I am glad and kinda annoyed at the same time. I am glad because I hate seeing the shelves cleared but am annoyed that they ruined it for the rest of us. I get 4 papers, so I get 4 items and only 4 items. Now I can only get one BUT I can keep going back for a few days I guess. If it is a BOGO offer I split the 8 products btwn my stores. I never clear shelves. I hate it when rude people do! I have noticed a crazy increase in my stores shelves being emptied because of that show. I blame that show.
ryan says
I tried to get a Tylenol Precise with the $5 Q and Wags $3 Q this week. I went to my 5 local Wags stores. All shelves were cleared in all stores. The Wags Q limits you to one purchase only so I have a sneaking suspicion all Wags stores took them off the shelves until the Q expires today. If I go tomorrow and all stores have the item, I have to say I will be mad. I just wanted one stupid Tylenol Precise cream for myself.
ryan says
I want to add that even though CVS limits some sales, they are often sold out of items too. I still have my rainchecks for the Aquafresh Kids toothpaste/brushes from early April and the Q’s expire 5/31. Pearland has 3 CVS stores, all still empty. So frustrating!
autumn says
I agree with you. I am even having trouble at Wal-mart because people are price matching ads and clearing the shelves. For instance, I went to CVS to get the Hidden Valley Ranch and there was one left so I went to Walmart to price match the ad and there was NONE. The ad just came out today. Wal-mart was also out of the little debbie snacks, tylenol patches, noxema razors, wisk laundry det., black flag fly traps. I have been couponing for years and it has never been like this. I can’t wait until the coupon FAD passes.
Lacey says
As frustrating as it may be to only be able to get one item at a time at least I won’t be making a dozen trips to the store only to find shelves cleared!!! I think this is great, fair for everyone. I wasted a ton of gas this weekend trying to use up some coupons that were about to expire.

I prefer Walgreens have a valued customer card to better police. Consider that those kinds of people who clear shelves are going to still try to clear it… it will just take extra work. Go in when store opens and then again in a few hours, when cashiers shift and with friends, mother, grown daughters, etc….and go to multiple stores….on a rotation. I have at least 6 Walgreens in a 10 mile radius. And if they check out at beauty counter, then a busy cashier at the door will not know they already made that purchase at the beauty counter and visa versa. It makes sense to use loyalty card to track number of purchases. Course, I’ve seen some of those women with 6 different CVS cards in their wallet too. I know you aren’t supposed to but they do. There is no way to completely police ethics…. Some people will always break/test the rules…. but I think it is good to try. Why make it easy on those who troll for those free items and harder on the average consumer when we can’t access the deals as easily? Customer loyalty card is my preferred method.
Amanda says
I wish every store would do this. I only got 2 tylenol precise patches cause EVERY store I went to was sold out. I I try to get about 2-3 of each deal but not all at the same store so that we all can have some.
Corina says
I live in the area where Walgreens has the card system in place, but it does not limit the amount of good deals one can buy, like my CVS states on the bottom of the receipts. their ads show that you can receive “X” more points when you buy so many items. Our shelves are cleared here too at many of the Walgreens.
Jobell13 says
I don’t watch Extreme Couponing anymore, it disgusts me to see the greed going on, I know some are honest shoppers but the majority are not! This has ruined it for those of us that just want to get bargains for our families needs. Just like anything else, a few bad eggs ruins it for all of us. The program advocates clearing the shelves so no one else can get anything. I’m glad they are limiting, so maybe some of us can get in on the sales also. This is what happens when greed takes over. I am so glad to be on this list, you are one of the few that does not take advantage..
Alisha says
YES! It’s especially frustrating when all you really have is 2 “Grocery Stores” (Walmart and HEB) and a Walgreens in your area and everything’s gone by the time you get to go to the store. 🙁
michele says
I was at my my local Walgreens this morning by 8:00 a.m. Thankfully, the shelves werent cleared, but I did have a moment of panic as I saw numerous “binder ladies” zipping around. And I do mean zipping..it was like a race. I felt like I had better hurry, and I was right. Right as I was trying to select which Old Spice I wanted to buy my teenage sons, a woman physically pushed me aside, and began tossing bottle after bottle in her cart. I couldnt believe it.
The upside is, I have had the best cashiers at Walgreens. Ive only been couponing a few weeks, and each time I had cashiers who actually helped me break up transactions, earn and roll the R.R’s, and how to use fillers. Ive enjoyed shopping there.
I am happy about the limits. I wouldve liked the limit to be 2, but 1 is better than none. At least we all stand a fair chance now.
April says
I decided to give up on Walgreens today. I live in Pearland, SE of Houston and the shelves were cleared of all RR items by 1:30 today when I got out of church. I’ve had problems every time I go to WG and my rainchecks are starting to take over my coupons (little exaggeration there). And the cashier was so rude b/c I can tell she had been dealing with multiple transactions and RR all day. So I decided to stick to CVS and Kroger. Too much trouble.
ryan says
April, I live in P-land too and the shelves are always empty at all Wags. There was nothing I needed this Sunday so I didn’t even go. Good thing I didn’t! lol! My Wags is Barry Rose and that store is the one I have had the most trouble with. I have had to use my coupon policy three times with multiple cashiers and managers. Once I even had to call corporate and then the manager called me to issue an apology. I did make a trip to Wags one Sunday morning for Right Guard and it was 8:30 am. There were only 2 bottles left. The clerk said a lady already came in and got them ALL. RUDE! I was happy I got my 2 but then the shelf was empty and they still don’t have them in stock. I don’t want more but I would like to see them stock more.
Beth says
April, I’m in North Houston and have about 10 Wags I can go to…I tried all 10 to get the BIC razors and all 10 were sold out. The cashiers at some are so rude I agree! Almost as if they look down upon you because you are using coupons…I’m almost tempted to start completely skipping the Wags ad on Sunday when looking at the paper…Way too much trouble
Rita says
THANK GOODNESS! It’s about time! I hope this policy comes to my Walgreens. Like many of the other readers here, I have 100% given up on shopping at Walgreens because I can never catch a deal – the shelves are always completely bare. There’s a woman in my area who teaches a couponing class ($35 a head! I have BIG time issues with that…) and I don’t think she focuses on couponing etiquette.
Sure, some people may be picking up all of those items to donate, but that takes items out of hands of people who may be hurting financially and could benefit from the good deal.
Frankie Dunham says
HAven’t seen this yet in our neck of the woods, but neither of the Walgreens within an hour of me ever have anything to do any of the deals when I get there. If that doesn’t change I’ll quit trying shortly. It’s just not worth the time to tack on an extra stop when I have to do everything in one day when I’m only going to get a mediocre deal once in a while and never a great one.
kristinq says
I am very new to this but i have found some really great deals and learning alot, I agree about not clearing a shelf i hate clutter and prob will never have a stock pile but i am a giver personality and i have in a few short weeks been able to give alot of free to cheap name brand items away most purchased at walgreens with their great sales my store put limits and transactions on customers at first i will admit i was not happy with the treatment i got from my store mgr i have never done more then 3 on a slow day. with that being said i came up with a solution walmart now has any ad match and they take all coupons from other store including the register rewards coupons so now i get the rewards and use them all at walmart if i want more then 3 of any item and i take my walreens ad and still get the same price
Rena says
I completely agree! I also wish ppl would have better manners about how many papers they buy! AND when I was at the paper stand earlier today, a lady was looking through her paper before she took it out…I was concerned she was grabbing more than she paid for, but she explained that the last 2 Sunday papers she had bought…someone had STOLEN the inserts from them! ETHICS PEOPLE!!!
Lara says
Oh no! This is an invitation for Peeved to comment again! 😉 CVS is so much easier to use than Walgreens that I don’t really go there anymore. Now if they decided to implement an actual policy of BOGO + BOGO q = free all around, then I might reconsider. 🙂
ryan says
BOGO + BOGO q = free all around
it is policy at my Wags……I have gotten that info from corporate.
Alisha says
GOOD!
I am glad they’ve decided to do that. I am new to this couponing thing and I use the money I save to put into savings or make up for other things that are happening (We’ve been pretty hard hit and busy the past couple of months especially with neither of us working and a 2 year old)
I was going to get the “Precise” by Tylenol deal at Walmart the other night before the coupon expired and surprise surprise: the first time I actually caught a really good deal, THE ENTIRE SHELF WAS CLEARED…SERIOUSLY???!!!
So I am very happy that Walgreens is doing this, though I have not seen it at my store yet.
Love this site, I am really excited I found it. Thanks for all the great tips especially because I live in San Antonio and the only real stores we have here are Walmart and HEB and 2 Supertargets but they are on the other side of town. 🙁
Thanks, god bless.

It is sad that people have to clear the shelves on a great deal and I am glad Walgreen’s is implementing this. I am new to couponing (about 2 months) and just now getting the hang of this with the drugstores. I went in for a few deals (which I got a great one with the Dove deoderant and Softsoap bodywashes) but I wanted to get 1 Gillette razor since I had the $4 off coupon. All 3 rows were wiped clean. This happens every week at my Walgreen’s with usually 1 or 2 particulary hot (usually free) items. I hope this policy goes into effect at my store soon. Those kind of people are ruining it for everyone to enjoy the great deals.

All I can say is WOW…a lot of people here hating on new couponers because of the TLC show. There will always be people who only think of themselves…that is the way it is. I also don’t think it is greedy to get 3 or 4 of an item at a time. Before I couponed I would stock up just when there was a sell and might buy 3 or 4 of an item. It didn’t clear the shelves or anything…but I can tell you this. If I went to the store with 3 or 4 coupons for an item and that is all they had, that is what I would get. Do you honestly think this will change things that much? For the die hard people that buy large quantities they will find a way…with friends and family, multiple stores, etc. I get one paper because they cost too much where I live. So, usually that is all I get is 1 but I am not going to NOT get something if I have printables and can get 3 or 4. That is not excessive or greedy in my opinion. I have couponed for years but not real seriously. Yes the show really brought to light a lot of things I was unaware of, like stacking, rolling rrs, etc. I think some of the newbies you are hating on might not be greedy…they may simply be excited. As seasoned couponers you must realize you win some, you lose some. I mean…really, it isn’t fair but life isn’t fair. It isn’t fair that people get different coupons in different areas…it isn’t fair that some people have connections for free paper or inserts…it goes on and on and on. I am just sick of people thinking life is fair…it just isn’t!! And it never will be…
Christine says
Try keeping the Sabbath and not conducting any business on Sunday. It makes for a lot of cleared shelves on Monday. Out of all the couponers on the “extreme” show, I was impressed to follow your counsel. Since I am new to couponing I wanted to learn from someone who I felt would guide me in an appropriate manner. I have accumulated a small stockpile in a short time, and I can honestly say, I have never cleared a shelf. I would feel so greedy.
Katie says
Exactly Christine! I too don’t shop on Sunday for the same reason, but I also live in the country and have to travel an hour to the nearest city/town with all the stores to coupon at. So, when I go, it is a one shot deal for me, if I don’t get the deal when I go, I won’t get the deal later. It is frustrating and I am really glad to hear about the limitations. MAYBE I will be able to get the deal with the new policy. 🙂

I guess thats why I’m totally against the show because there has never been a store that I’ve gone to where the employees and managers are clapping at all the coupons and savings. Seriously, it has to just be for the show. Any other time they make you feel like you are stealing no matter what store it is. Also, with the show I think more stores will start changing their coupon policy.

My husband and I have always used coupons since we got married. We never have been greedy. We always buy what we need for the month. But now we have too small childrens and daycare is a killer. We have to use more coupons and shop at Sams. I get two sunday papers delivered to my house and my saves her coupons for me too. I try to buy the basic only! But my husband hurt his leg and he has been using all kinds of patches and creams. When I saw the five dollar coupons for tylenol precise. I thought great deal gonna use all three. Five stores later and two trips to each. I never got any!!! I asked the manager at walgreens are ya ever gonna get some in. He said yes soon. But my coupon is already expired. He told me that there was a coupon in the walgreens book and I could use the other one for $2. So I could still get $5 off. But to my suprise some of the employees where going home and they where checking out. They had alot of the stuff that was on sale. So I think some of the employess get first choice! But the girls were nice I got to go through a lot of the perfumes that they were putting out. They were on clearance for 75% off. I got alot of them for christmas present. They varied from $2.49 to $10.00 and I got vera wang, britnneyspears and baby phat! Sometime it good to look at the clearance section too!

I completely agree. Unfortunately I am willing to bet that this is something that will start to spread accross the board to other retailers. I went into walmart yesterday and today and any item that you could get with a coupon was absolutely gone from the shelves. I honestly dont think I have ever seen so many empty shelves in my life. Just rediculous.

I agree with you guys some people out there have no thought about the next person that comes in its crazy. I have seen more and more people couponing now days everywhere you turn around but we all have to keep in mind as Tiffany put it our “coupon ethics and manners”.

I couldn’t agree more! while I do like the show some of those profiled irritate me with their ways, I do not like the idea of using your kids to dumpster dive for coupons or letting them go door to door either!! not safe!! getting them involved is great but not like that!
I also hate when some of them have purchased immense amounts even though they don’t use the item or donate it,simply because there is a coupon or it’s a moneymaker….my rule for my stockpile is: my family must use and like the items if not it has to be something I can donate to my church/local foodbank/shelter…..even then I do not clear the shelves, it is not fair to other’s trying to save/stockpile…

Thank Goodness!!! Its so hard with 5kids to even get to a store let alone grab a deal when the shelves are cleared! I was so angry when I was watching the “Mustard Lady” clear the shelve when her husband doesnt even like mustard!! I am sorry it had to come to this though I wish everyone was more thoughtful of others.

Maybe there are a lot more cleared shelves because there a lot more couponers? Not all new couponers are “clearing” shelves. There is no doubt couponing has skyrocketed…but the couponing boom started before he sho on TLC…it started with the bad economy. TLCs show may have added to it but simply put, there are just a lot more couponers. I would think we shoud be happy that more people are saving….I REALLY feel that the people who buy in mass quantities are the exception…not the rule. So many people blaming the show and new couponers is ridiculous. I seems to me more people are just mad because there is more competition out there for coupons and the deals. Really persistent shelf clearers will still find a way to get huge quantities. As some of the new people start realizing how much work is involved some will drop out, some will temper their excitement and some will keep on couponing on a much more realistic scale.

Well it is aggravating when someone walks into all the walgreens in the woodlands area and buys all the clean and clear and leaves nothing on the shelf. (along with no toothbrushes!) leave some for everyone else to get the deal too!

It wasn’t me! I swear! (JK – I have experienced the same thing in TW)

I’m soooo glad Walgreens is doing this…I heard from my local Walgreens cashier (my favorite) that this was going to happen. they have a lady that comes in 1st thing monday morning and buys every free, good deal in the store and then proceeds to special order more and then she goes down to the river market and sells them for 1/2 price…it’s not fair and I’m sorry it’s needed since extreme couponing came on air!

I am so sorry for your problems with some cashiers at walgreens but I would have to say and this by far is no exc=scuse for their behavior they should just tke a breath and recoup but they do get inadated with phone calls about do we have this s ale or did the truck come in all day everyday and they have been taking ads and easy saver books by the handfulls and selling them on ebay and craigs list and also the couponers are really mad at us for not having product and the new rules installed by our store managers.

Shelf clearing, resellers, & coupon thieves (peelies, tearpads, inserts) have been around for years. In fact they are upset that TLC has let their secret out.
Illegal acquisition of coupon inserts must be stopped. ?It’s the best way to stop the shelf clearing.

Don’t forget to contact P&G , local newspaper offices, store managers and district managers.
Heck write the board of directors! The shelf clearers do!
Until everyone is willing to do the work to combat this it will get worse.
By the way, rumor has it that 2 different people have been arrested for reselling. Apparently the wording in the q mattered after all. Some others have also gotten arrested for the improper acquisition of inserts. Those things are kept under lock and key for a reason!

Sadly, this is needed at my local Walgreens in southern California. As one person mentioned… there is someone who clears the shelf on Monday AM in their area. The people at my Walgreens have the shelf cleared by 8:15am on SUNDAY morning. That is just wrong! I would like to get at least one of the good deals… maybe a cheap toothbrush? Something… Please. I am taking a copy of the sign above to my local regional manager to see if we can have this in effect in our area. I am over trying to buy something and the store being out of stock because of some greedy and selfish person….
