Now, it isn’t always pretty. The above picture is shelving that I had to set up in my bedroom to handle the ‘overflow’ from all the closets! I live in a small house with no basement and in the south where it is too hot to store anything in the garage. My room has always been my sanctuary, and this ugly monster has taken some getting used to. BUT, it is worth it to ME to stay within my $400 budget, and NEVER pay full price for ANYTHING.
This is my coat closet…. if you actually wear a coat and come to my house it will get laid on my bed. The vacuum is also stored in the office. Every little space counts!
These are some of the items that I can store in the garage. I rarely ever have an emergency trip to the grocery store. I always have every item on hand that I will need. This helps me tremendously with last minute dinners and spontaneously trying a new recipe. It also keeps my costs down by not having to call the husband to pick stuff up on his way home 🙂
Do you stockpile? Do you have any tips?

You are AWESOME! $400 a month for a family of 8–that's $50/person a month, that's a $1.67 a day/person.
I know a lady around here who does a similar thing, and she has very little storage as well. For extra storage, she has removed some of the sheetrock on the inside of her closets, and installed small shelving in the space there…she says it is the perfect size for cans, and gives her tons more storage space that is climate controlled. Maybe it will give you your bedroom back?
I am truly impressed with 1)your organization and 2)keeping grocery bills to $400/month. Does this include cleaning and paper products?
Albertsons has a great General Mills sale in September where you can stock up on tons of cereal, cookie mixes, and other stuff that, with a coupon, works out to be under $1 each. I have walked out of the store with a cart piled high (top and bottom) and only $30 lighter in the wallet. Then they give you the catalinas you posted about a week or so ago which gives you MORE savings for your next trip which usually happens for me 5 minutes later.
Thanks for the tips! Keep it up.

You are amazing….$400 a month for 8! I knew you purchased a lot of products from your posts, but didn't realize the extent of it until now. I am taking notes form you!! 🙂
Truly inspirational!You are a wonder.
I have a few storage ideas for you. Maybe you are using them.
-Behind a bed or couch build shelves along the whole wall. You can cover it with a screen or run a rod and hang a curtain floor to ceiling. Often 12 inches wont make a differance in a room but adds up to a lot of storage space.
-Stack cans behind a couch and put a 4×4 on top for a shelf.
-Put all single bed on risers to double the space underneath. I had a friend who took old kitchen cabinets and laid them on their sides to build a frame for her bed. That gives a lot of space.
-We replaces all of our end tables with small cabinets with doors for storage.
-often times there is room for cans under the couch or dresser. Pull the bottom drawers out to access.
-Fill an unused fireplace and hide with a screen
-Buy ottomen boxes.
-Hide behind the books on your bookshelves.
-Top of kitchen cabinets.
-Run a shelf along the top of the wall in your kitchen or dining room and use the food items decoratively.
-Do you have a cellar?
-As much as you are storing, it may be feasable to just make your garage more climate controlled.
Good luck!
Just found your blog today. LOVE IT! I was wondering how you made your price list when first started? I started using coupons about a month ago and want to make some sort of price list so I know when I am getting a good deal, but I am not really sure where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
