It’s official: I’ve become my grandmother. I realized it the other morning when I opened the door to our freezer.
* Plastic Soda Bottles Filled with Water: Grandma knew that keeping her freezer chockfull helped to insulate it and perform better, and kept things cold longer if the electricity failed. I like to fill empty plastic soda bottles nearly full with water, and put them in the freezer to take up any vacant space. Plus they make convenient “drip-less ice cubes” to use instead of real ice cubes in my ice chest.
* Wine cubes: When you have a little leftover wine from dinner, pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it. “Wine cubes” are perfect to use in making stock and other cooking.
* Wooden Voodoo Mask: A carved wooden mask I picked up at Mardi Gras last year is showing the telltale pinholes of a woodworm infestation. As they know in the furniture refinishing business, placing a wooden item in the deep freezer for a couple of weeks will kill woodworms and their eggs.

didn't know about a couple of these! we do keep batteries in there and the bottom of our deep freezer is full of gallons of water for the same reason…learned that growing up!

That is funny. We do the frozen 2-liters but only to use them when boiling crawfish, they put them in at some point of the process and it make them easier to peel.LOL. Pantyhose, really?

I wonder if it would kill lice. Not that I would know anything about lice because I don't.{shiver down my spine}But if I did, I'd remember it very well and be screaming ALL IN CAPS!Funny. I freeze my Mardi Gras mask, too. Wormwood is big here in Utah. Along with shootin' critters before a hurricane.

Other “weird” things I freeze are Gallons of Milk and Bread! I never thought it was unusual but, my company does. Lol!

Wine cubes… not sure I understand the concept of “leftover” wine…
though I will admit , I have herbs, particularly cilantro and celery(which isnt an “Herb” but wilts too fast)
right now , wheat bread is on sale at HEB , so i have about 10 loaves of frozen bread in mine, and precooked rice is in there too, a REAL saver when you need to cook dinner in a hurry

My mom left her bucket of rice without a lid, and it got mothy. We hand-sorted out anything we could see, then sealed meal-size servings into sealer bags and they’re spending a nice cold week or so in the freezer, to kill anything that might be left.
If you get any food items on clearance or at a “scratch and dent”, bag and freeze it for a week before using it.
