I posted this on my personal FB page. But in order to preserve this for her children, I am posting it here so I can find it again someday.
Actual conversation I JUST had with my 13 year old:
“Mom, when are we leaving?” She says.
“Where are we going again?” I ask.
“You said you would take me to the mall to get so and so’s birthday present!”
“Oh, right. Go get in the car.” I tell her.
“Aren’t you going to change?”
“Change what? Change my clothes?” I ask confused.
“Yeah, are you wearing that?”
“Yes, I am not even getting out of the car!” I say bewildered.
“Whatever.” As she walks away
How long will the madness go on?! Does she see what she is wearing? THE SAME THING AS I AM!!
Someone help me, I have how many more of these kids to go through?!

OMG – I can feel your pain!!! My just turned 7 y.o. asks me the same question when I drop her off at school, as if I have to get dressed up to drive someone to school, it’s not as if I’m wearing p.j.s!! Then she’ll ask when I’m going to color my hair, when she starts to see roots – if she only realized that she is part of the reason it’s going gray, LOL!! I think she started extremely early, but I’ve got 3 girls to go through this “phase” with – my only concern is that it is here to stay! Know that you’re not alone and I don’t see anything wrong with your attire ๐

Thank you!!! Here I thought I was the only one this was happening to. I have a 13 year old girl going through the exact same thing.

Welcome to my world. ๐ It is because you were wearing the SAME thing she was. Seriously teenagers are crazy. I have 4 girls, 2 of which are ALREADY teenagers. They were amazing little people and as they have gotten older…. WOW! Life is NEVER dull with teenagers!

My ten year old tells me a mom can’t POSSIBLY wear the same style her daughter wear. That’s just wrong! LOL. I am seriously considering showing up at her school in a nightgown and slippers, with rollers in my hair. Take that!

So, you’re saying that I should savor the fact that my 9 y/o and I (Happily) wear matching pink snakeskin flip-flops? and that when I bought myself a pair of blue shorts the other day, she immediately asked me to buy her a blue pair too! God, I hope she never grows up….

I’m in trouble. My 5 year old has already started that… she has asked me to change my clothes before dropping her off at school. ?? I don’t leave the car.

I have 5 boys and 1 girl. They are now between the ages of 33 – 16. I have thanked the good Lord MANY times that I have only 1 girl! It was tough but now that she’s grown and married I am so thankful for her. She introduced me to couponing! Just tough it out; it will get better. But since you have 5 girls . . . . ๐

I have 2 teens.. I remind them I could be much worse. My mother dressed up and participated local festivals/variety shows as a folk singer, puppet toting Clown, a comedic character wearing fishnet stocking(long story). She frequently could be seen wearing 3 shades of red saying they blended but I was loved! I further explained that I will walk them to class wearing curlers ( whether I need to or not), pajamas and no bra holding their hand… They know I will and I haven’t hear anything since.
I purchase teen fav”super sale items” such as bath and body, jewelry etc for BD gifts to avoid the trading of $20 gift cards.
We shop clearance sales and/or vintage (Goodwill/thrift stores) for “the brand of the year”. Our kids live in a “Give me” society and we get suckered in. I have frequently told my children as they were growing up that the state requires I give you food, shelter and clothing. It says nothing about name brand clothing, expensive shelter or even good food. I try to give you those things because I love you. YOU are not entitled. Oh yeah, life goes on even if you don’t have a smart phone.
