There are so many options with this versatile cake recipe. You might normally know this cake as Better Than S*& Cake, or in our home, Better Than Megan Fox Cake.
My Grandma made this version all the time, it is a fall cake made with pumpkin that changes it up! It is super easy and VERY good!
This is so super rich and very good! Be prepared to bring the recipe with you when you take it somewhere… Plus your house smells amazing!
Pumpkin Toffee Cake
1 (18.25 ounce) yellow cake cake mix
1 – 15 oz. can pumpkin puree
1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
6 ounces caramel ice cream topping
3 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered toffee, chopped
1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
- Mix together the cake mix and pumpkin puree until a smooth batter forms. Bake cake according to package directions for a 9×13 inch pan; cool on wire rack for 5 minutes. Poke holes all over the cake, making sure not to go through to the bottom.
- Slowly pour the milk and caramel over the top of the warm cake, letting it sink into the holes.
- Let cake cool completely, then top with whipped topping. Decorate the top of the cake with some more chocolate toffee bar chunks. Refrigerate and serve cold!

When you say bake cake according to package directions…do you mean eggs, etc?
Tiffany says
no, sorry Sherry, I didn’t make that clear. You add the pumpkin to the dry cake mix and that is it. No eggs or anything.
Sherry says
Thanks…just wanted to be sure I understood.

I hope this turns out this time. I made it a couple of weeks ago and it was awful. It was sort of like a stiff pudding. My mistake though because I used a large can of pumpkin instead of the standard size can. Thought I would mention, you list the cake package as an 18.25 oz, but I have a Duncan Hines box here and it is 15.25 oz. – at first it threw me off- since I made my mistake 2 weeks ago. I made this originally over a decade ago and lost the recipe. So I really hope it works today.

Can regular canned pumpkin be used in place of the pumpkin puree? Also, I have a cake mix that is 15.25 oz. Will this still work? Can’t wait to try this cake!
Tiffany says
Yes!

You say to “Decorate the top of the cake with some more chocolate toffee bar chunks.” Is this the only place you use the toffee? I don’t see it mentioned anywhere else in the recipe.
Tiffany says
Yes, Sorry for the confusion, I was probably eating them as I was making it!

Got one in the oven, now. Smells yummy!! Was confused about making cake as mix directionssaid, put it together with just mix and puree and just didnt look right so added other ingredients. Trusting all is well.
Cindy says
Ok so I am now confused! One way says not to add the other ingredients (eggs etc as listed on cake mix) and other people say to add! Which is it? Thx
Jill says
What do you use to poke it?
Tiffany Ivanovsky says
I use the back or end of a wooden spoon
