I got home from the FOX 26 segment I do on Monday’s and was so frustrated to see the problems that you are having with certain coupons and the CRAZY things that cashier’s and managers MAKE UP at the registers to explain why they will not take your coupons for no reason.
Also, there is a RUMOR going around in management at Walmart that they can not take any coupons that have a Del Rio, TX remit address. This rumor goes around every so often and I actually posted about it 2009!
THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!
About 90% of coupons are submitted to either Del Rio, TX or El Paso, TX!
Del Rio Texas is the location of the processing center for International Outsourcing Services (IOS).
IOS is the United State’s largest coupon clearinghouse for grocery store retailers’ and manufacturers’ coupons.
Pull out a stack of coupons and look at the remit address… it is probably Del Rio, TX. For Walmart to not take any coupons that will be remitted to Del Rio, is completely incorrect!
O.K. I am done now… I just want management and ill informed cashier to STOP making things up. As the consumer, we need to be as educated as possible to know when they are not telling the truth. If you are ever unsure, please call the corporate office of that store and ask them to find out the answer for you.

I had a MANAGER at Walgreens yesterday tell me that Register Rewards do NOT work if you use a MQ on the item. It was the theraflu deal.
How can you be a manager and not know this!?! Then refuse to give me my RRs!?! Then get mad at me for wanted to return my purchase!?!
I was about the explode JUST because it was the ONLY time I’ve stepped into Wags without my binder with my coupon policy highlighted like a college textbook.
So there’s my coupon rant!

I had that happen to me today too! I was so mad! The manager yelled at me in front of the other customers in line when the RR did not print “I told you last time that you can’t get a RR if you use a coupon, it won’t print” I informed her that every other item in my bag was paid for with a coupon and I still got my RR. It was for the theraflu. Thank goodness the assistant manager was there and told her there was a problem with the system on that specific RR. He told me to get $5 of merchandise and he would take care of it…I ended up getting 5 bags of the kettle popcorn and using my coupons on those too! They really need to learn their policies instead of yelling at people in front of others in an effort to make you look and feel dumb for trying to save money.

The EXACT same thing happened to me yesterday with the Theraflu. RR didn’t print, cashier noticed that it didn’t print and called assistant manager over. When I saw him coming over I groaned inwardly because he’s the assist mgr who was very rude to me in July over the BOGO Stayfree deal (when I tried to use BOGO coupon with the deal he told me that I would have to buy 4…uh, noooo). Immediately he said “I hate Register Rewards. I wish Walgreens would stop Register Rewards. It didn’t print because you used a manufacturer’s coupon.” I held up the Walgreens circular and showed him the picture of the items that I had just bought, the red circled words that said “coupons in most Sunday newspapers”, and the “buy $10, get $5 Register Rewards” and said that I just wanted what Walgreens was advertising. He continued on with how much he hates Register Rewards. When I held up the circular again and said “Am I wrong? Isn’t this is what is advertised?”, he replied, “Yes, you’re wrong. You won’t get it because you used a manufacturer’s coupon.” I wrote down his name, went home and emailed walgreens.com immediately. I was always polite to him, he has been needlessly rude and evidently hates Walgreens. Poor cashier, she looked like she was going to have a stroke.

I had the manager ring up the two theraflu’s without using the coupon and the RR still didn’t print. I proved her wrong there and was proud of it! She didn’t have an answer for me after that so she went and got someone else. And I did the same thing, I showed them where the ad had the coupon part. I’ve gotten in the habit of checking all the RR’s I’m supposed to have before leaving the counter so they don’t think I’m trying to cheat them. I just want what’s advertised!

Wait, so are you on Fox every Monday?
Tiffany says
Yes at 9am, every Monday!

I hate shopping at Targets in Rowlett, or Mesquite TX. They treat you like a criminal because you have coupons and they try to find something to give them a reason not to take the coupon. I went shopping there the other day and the manager hoovered next to the cashier as my 2 coupons where being scanned…..i was embarrassed and upset when leaving the store!!! Why do they issue or have store coupons when they treat you badly for using them.
rozy says
Brandy i hear you, we have the same
situation @ the store in Mesquite , tx
there are very uncoupon unfriendly , specially this black guy cashier supervisor named Bob, i havent had time to call corporate, cause is really a hasle to buy particulary at that store he follows you like a criminal and also once you are at the register ready to check out he is there to give all the trouble he can so you will end up all frustrated and annoyed by him .

i got this at a walmart the other day when i tried to use nos coupon what do you do they wont take it it was aggravating.

So going to share this on my FB page!

I absolutely agree with your frustration. I would like to rant & share my experience with walmart making up their own policies as well. I recently went to Austin and tried to use my $1.00 cascade coupon for the trial pack. They refused to accept. The head cashier came over assisting the cashier who had the question b/c she heard they were not suppose to accept. He went to confirm with Asst. Manager on duty (whom I never saw), came back and said that the asst. mgr said they can’t accept. I told him to show me on coupon where it says “exclude trial size” which he couldn’t. There was no reason given other than the manager said “no”. Completely making up his own rules. I wrote to corporate and that Asst. Mgr called me and “Claimed” that he never said that. OMG, as if that head cashier made it up. Yeah right!! I’m sure there was no reason to make up a false conversation. He just didn’t want to admit he was WRONG!! Nevertheless, I will take time to set them straight and call them on their actions so they better not try it. I guarantee, it will come back to haunt them. Unfortunately, at the time, they just don’t know it. Sorry so long, just wanted to vent. I never have problems with that coupon in Houston.

I too have nothing but problems with using coupons at Walmart. Every other place I shop they are excited for me when I use my coupons, it is so frustrating. The last time I went I decided not again! I stood my ground and asked the woman if she wanted to see a copy of their coupon policy. I was shaking when I left and I was willing to leave my cart and walk out if they weren’t willing to take my coupons. She finally took them but they really need to train their employees better.
Mayte says
I had a cashier today refuse to take my coupons for the $4 and $2 off razors that were in this weeks coupon inserts. She said no, they weren’t the right ones so she wasn’t going to give them to me. And also with the tide travel packs that I had a $.50 coupon for. With horrible attitude! I got out of line, went and found someone in that department and calmly asked them to show me the product that matched the coupon. She gave me the exact same item I already had. I told her the cashier wouldn’t take the coupon so she went to another cashier and showed them the coupon and the razors. The cashier simply overrode the system and honored the coupons. I got 9 pks of razors for free with $.03 overage on each! (I don’t have a working printer for the $6/2 coupon which would’ve been really great).

There are a few stores here in TN that do not allow any sort of printable coupon. They have signs that say “due to fraudulent coupons, we no longer accept internet printed coupons. The walmart I work at has recently started a sort of “retraining” on cashiers about coupons. The reputation (and I know first hand how bad it was shopping their before) for being unfriendly with couponers caused them to lose ALOT of business. So now cashiers are being trained on accepting, limits (example P&G coupons how to tell a p&g coupon + coupons with limits). It’s a hassle but at the same time, it seems people have the worse time shopping their so maybe it’s worth it.
I have a question about your status on gang clipping? Have you ever had your coupons turned down due to having “to many like coupons” or your coupons having similar cuts? That’s also something we’re training about, which gives me mixed feelings. I get 6 newspapers every Sunday, and cut them with a paper cutter, but during training we are being told not to accept more then 6 of the same coupon.
Tiffany says
Ashley, that is a really good question, I should do a post on that specifically. I do 6 also. From what i understand as long as it is under 12 you are ok.

Thanks for all you do. Today a lady was bragging about these coupons she had and it was one of those drink coupons for 4.00 off one 12 pack mtn dew. I told her I saw those on the fraud list and she has been using them all over town. I hate when people do that

this was my latest scenario at my Target: I usually “cashier profile”, but I ran in to buy some baby formula and some of the clearance shout wipes. I had 2 coupons: formula and shout wipes (.75/2) they said they would not take the shout wipes coupon bc it wasn’t the picture, I then pointed out that it said on “ANY” shout product. not only did they tell me ALL the managers were in a conference call, but they send over the freakin’ security guard to talk to me bc “he was below the managers but above the cashiers” and HE decided that bc the coupon fine print said “valid only on the products indicated” (which MOST coupons say) he said that it was supposed to be the picture indicated (the shout spray). I am still boiling mad over this…

I know that every one of us probably has a cashier coupon horror story to share. But I would just like to thank those cashiers who happily accept my coupons on a nearly daily basis. They are usually cheerful and happy for my savings. Some even ask me for couponing tips!

I went to wal-mart today with some coupons, and was so frustrated by the time I left I kept thinking to myself that’s it I won’t be going back. My cashier rung me up, bagged everything and than made me unpack it all out so she could lay each coupon with each item I bought and than check every single thing. I know there is coupon fraud out there, but it was evident that was not the case with my order. She was so rude about it, and made me feel bad for using coupons. She even went so far as to tell me it’s an inconvience for her the checker and I should be somewhat embarassed. It took me over 45 minutes to check out with 21 items, 5 of which I did not have coupons for. Perhaps it’s just me but I feel like it’s gotten 10 times harder to use coupons since that extreme coupon show. I wish wal-mart would do a better job with educating their workers!

I am so glad I read this post. I just realized that I did not get my RR for the theraflu either. I will be returning that.

Couldn’t agree more about Walgreens. I’ve had incredibly rude cashiers, uneducated cashiers and clueless managers. I just stopped going. I would rather pay more than get treated like a criminal or, at the very least, a bother. Walgreens needs to wise up… right next door to almost everyone is a CVS… where I have never had a problem!
When all of us are just trying to save money and get through the day, an attitude is the last thing I want to deal with when I’m parting with my money!
