What are you having for dinner tonight? It is a little cooler here and so I want to stick something in the oven and have the house smell good! Since there are some good coupons out I am going to make Homemade Chicken Pot Pie!
The total cost at my Walmart for the ingredients was $11.57. That is under $2 a serving as this serves 6 for a pie. You can double it and put it into a 9×13 pan.
There are a few coupons that you will need:
Easy Homemade Chicken Pot Pie
Ingredients
- 2 (9 inch) pie crusts $2.49 ( after $.50/2 coupon)
- 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup $.60 ( after $.40/3 coupon)
- 1 (8 ounce) tub or package cream cheese $1.48 (after $1/1 coupon)
- 1/2 (16 ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables, thawed $2.00
- 3 cups cooked, diced chicken meat $5 ( I use a rotisserie chicken and pull the meat off)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- In a large mixing bowl combine soup and softened cream cheese. Mix until thoroughly blended. Stir in vegetables and chicken.
- Pour chicken mixture into pastry-lined pie pan. Cover with top crust. Seal and cut steam vents in top. Cover edges of crust with aluminum foil to prevent overbrowning.
- Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove foil halfway through baking to allow edges of crust to brown. Check often late in cooking time to ensure crust is not burning.
** We also make this in a 9×13 casserole dish. Another variation is to add biscuits to the top instead of a pie crust.

This looks so good I think I’ll make it tonight 🙂 Thanks!
I want to make the 9×13 of this. Do you up the cooking time or is it the same?
It will take a little longer, since you are not having to cook it just basically heat it up and make sure the crust is done, get the filling bubbly and the crust done thats it.
hi, this is a little off topic but i couldn’t find the recipe for your dressing, the one with the sausage. i didn’t get a chance to print it out initially when you first posted it. i looked under recipe category on your blog but it wasn’t there. can you re-post it or tell me how to get to it… I’m looking forward to making it. It looks really delicious… thank you for your help.

Thought I would mention that at my Walmart if you go in when the Deli is closing you can buy rotisserie chickens for a penny! It might just be my store that does this, but check it out. I take all the meat off and put it in ziplocs and either freeze it or just stick it in the fridge for quick meals later!
Which walmart do you shop at? Do you have to ask them behind the counter? I guess what I’m asking is how do you get this deal? Thanks
Hi, Which deal are you talking about? You can just purchase each item separately and use coupons.
I shop at the Walmart in Durango Colorado and I just ask when they are closing up if the chickens are still for sale, they always say yes and mark them for a penny! Sometimes when I get there they are already all marked a penny.
Wow! I’d love a deal like that! Lucky you!
Tiffany thank you for this recipe. My family hates leftovers, but lasts night chicken became a whole new meal and my family LOVED it. I have a house full of picky eaters and they all said make this one again. THANK YOU!!
Back when HEB had a sale on chicken fajita meat for $1 / lb you had some meal ideas for the fajita meat. Can’t seem to find that on your website. Could you send me this ideas/ recipes?
