This is the back left corner of my truck. This is EXACTLY what the back right corner of my truck looked like 2 months ago.
Right before spring break my husband backed out of the parking lot at the local little league and hit a light pole right in the middle of the parking lot. In his defense, I had parked the truck and the pole was randomly in a weird spot, so he wasn’t expecting their to be one at all in that location. HOWEVER, he still hit it even after looking back when he backed out.
It had to be immediately repaired as I didn’t have break lights and we were getting ready to leave to go to Iowa for spring break.
I was pretty mad quite honestly as I try really hard to keep my car nice. Plus, there was already a dent in the bumper from a few months before when he hit a pole backing up in another parking lot, but I never got that fixed as it didn’t affect anything and I didn’t want to spend the money.
$1200 later and we could drive the truck again.
While in CA this past week, again backing up, he ran into a bus stop bench as we were trying to find parking to eat at one of the restaurants featured in Diners, Dives and Drive Ins. We all just sat in the truck stunned.
Getting out and looking at the damage I was sad to see it was a mirror image of the last incident. Thankfully the break light would still light up and so we were legal driving home. We ordered a part and had it shipped next day so that we could replace the light for the long drive back to Texas. We stayed an extra day for the part to arrive and when it did it was the wrong one. They sent the wrong piece. We were homesick and tired so we just taped the back together and figured we would fix it in Texas.
I normally write up all the funny and crazy things that happen to us as a family. This isn’t tragic or the end of the world, and there was nothing really funny about it at all. Just ironic, and the wrong part was icing on the cake.
We left home on May 26th for China, and since then we really have not been home but for 2 days until we left again for a really long road trip. I have been blogging in the car for more hours then the hot spot on my phone wants to pay for. I have looked for more hotels with free wi-fi then you can imagine and we have asked more family members before we went to their house to confirm that they have wireless before we left then I want to talk about.
Sometimes you are just too tired to care. We both just looked at the car and the plastic hanging off and shook our heads. Paul hugged me and told me how sorry he was and we just got in the car and started driving.
I don’t have/want to spend $1200 again to fix it. It might just stay that way as long as it is legal for a while. I just want to be in my own house, with my own internet and my own bed. I want to cook dinner for my family and pet my dog. I actually want to do laundry and put everything back where it goes and have some lazy dog days of summer with my kids.
Plus as I sit in my truck writing this, Paul is driving, just as he has for the past 4,000 miles while I work, as he tries to make it to El Paso staying awake. The kids are sleeping, feeling safe believe it or not as their Dad drives not in reverse (:)), and I figure we all just need to be cut some slack every now and then!

IDK how you haven’t traded him in yet… abusing your truck over and over like this and then not sharing his deodorant & tooth brush with you!! ๐ (he will never live that down) LOL Sorry Paul ๐ You will be home soon then don’t leave the house for a LONG TIME!!!

I feel your pain. My oldest son has it in for my minivan too. First he backed it into a dumpster. Then he dinged the drivers door on a gas pump. After that, I refused to let him drive it, and he had to ride his bike a mile down the road to work. One day he came home from work and lost his balance on his bike and banged it into…yup…my minivan. Even when he doesn’t drive it, he still dorks it up ๐ Now mind you, he never dented his own car or my husband’s truck. Ever. But my poor minivan now has three battle wounds thanks to him. Good think I like him a little.

I know! Pauls car is perfect, nothing ever happens to it, I think he has some kind of subconscious thing for it!

this has happened to us. we always order parts on ebay and my husbands put them on for us. the light is only like $195. takes a little time but well worth paying a dealership. sorry this is happening, so frustrating.

Well, Tiffany, we can’t take Paul in on trade, however, my husband, Duane, is the finance director at Wiesner in Huntsville and will be happy to trade you out of your “accident prone” truck, beauty marks and all, lol!

I probably should express my sympathies, but to tell you the truth, I laughed so hard that I almost fell out of my chair. Your stories remind my of Dagwood Bumstead.
Just do what the tug boat operators do – hang old tires all the way around the outside of the boat (truck)! I figure 10 old tires and a roll of nylon rope should do the job and the cost should be around $20 bucks.
Admittedly my solution doesn’t do anything for the looks of the truck, but then neither does all the dings and dents from playing bumper cars with it. That way your husband can bump into stuff all he wants and you don’t have huge repair bills and the two of you can stay out of divorce court. Problem solved!

Call some of the junkyards around Conroe to see if they have it. I found a new corner tail light for my 12 year old Thunderbird for $60, after I backed up into yard companies trailer. From the picture you truck is a lot newer than my vehicle, but you never know what they may have.

That is a great idea, I was going to try that when we got home!
