This is a great email I got from reader Sarah, this is her trip to Kroger!
“I got 66 items for $38.86. thats .58 cents and item!! ($2.00 of that was for some stompees house slippers left over from christmas) so actually about 36.86!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the bbq sauce and velveeta deal that you posted!
I got gold fish and so much more!!
I had $1.50 catalina from before, I used 10 bbq/velveeta coupon, i kraft singles, i pringles, 4 free cat food, and i had the breakfast essentials and egg beaters on my card!!!!
I am so happy, Even though the cashier was so rude to me. I actually complained to the manager which i never do. I was in the self check out and as soon as she saw my coupon binder she started huffing and puffing. Ridiculous!! I dont think i had that much stuff and i like to ring it up myself to make sure im doing it right and i get the right quantites.”

Great job!! Just curious (promise I am NOT trying to be rude)… If you were in a self checkout, why was there a cashier there? I shopped at Walmart a couple of days ago & one of my regular cashiers was rude to me. I know how you feel. I guess she was having a bad day so I just smiled & thanked her like I always do. I don’t know why people want to take their bad days out on someone else.

I have that problem regularly at my Kroger in Kingwood. There are two checkers there that are ridiculously rude to me every time I try to do a big coupon run. Now I won’t get in their lines under any conditions. Complaining to the manager did nothing. I did great at this weeks trip as well. I got $389.87 worth of stuff for $139.12. I agree with Tiffany though. Next big trip, I’m driving to Bryan! 🙂

My guess is that since you probably went through a 15 item or less lane which almost every kroger i’ve been to with a self-check out is considered, just look at the sign above which says self check out 15 items or less; is why the cashier was not looking forward to watching you.

At my Kroger they ONLY have those open after 10pm. It really sucks. I might have 100 items and I have to self check at one of those 15 or less registers 🙁

I did awesome at Kroger too! It was my first time “really” couponing and I got my total from 297.89 to 160.99! I know not as awesome as some of you ladies, but I was excited! I had no issues with my cashier, he was really sweet! I hope you don’t have any trouble next time!

What a great job. Where did you find discounted Stompers? My Grand daughter is driving me nuts-O for a pair but they are $19 at CVS. Out of the budget for house shoes . . .

Kroger has a bank of self checkout registers and there is one cashier that oversees this group. You must hand your coupons to the cashier to scan. You can not scan them yourself. At my Kroger, there are very few manned lanes open after 8:00 pm. The self checkouts do not have a limit to the number of items. Because of my work schedule, I had to do the family shopping around 9 pm. This became hard to do with only the self checkout lanes open. When I mentioned this to the manager, he told me to shop earlier in the day. I told him that he had fabulous customer service skills.

Hello, This is sara from the above picture. At my kroger we have 6 self check out lanes and 3 regular lanes. 2 of the self check out lanes have a sign that say 15 items or less. so i thought it was fine to go through the other lane that didnt have that sign. I usually do it this way and have never had a problem. Yes their is 1 cashier that “helps” you if you need it and they do scan your coupons for you. But like I said as soon as she saw my binder she started with the attitude. Im not sure complainin to the manager helped much but i did it anyway. The manager basically said that people try to ring up $300.00 worth of stuff and use coupons on all things. I said well that wasnt the situation in my case. About the stompees, when kroger clearanced out all of their christmas stuff, they had lots of toys included in that. The stompees were included in that stuff also. This one was just a random stompee thrown in an aisle by it self so i thought well if it was 75% off then it must be like 90% off now. So i got it for $2.00. Anyways next time depending on what i have i will go through the regular lane.
