I never really introduced our new “baby” Eleanor.
One day in January our 7 year old looked at Paul and I in the kitchen and asked, “why don’t we have a baby?” we looked at each other and asked her “what do you mean?” She sweetly explained that Andie was 2, and we always have another baby when the little one is 2.
I almost bawled.
Not because I want a baby really, but because sometimes you don’t realize how observant they really are. We just explained to her, that we think our family is perfect the way that it is, and that we probably wouldn’t be having a baby.
The very next day, my husband (who hates dogs) came home with Eleanor. I think he wanted a baby as well!
Eleanor is bossy.
Our big dog, is about 85lbs. He is my jogging buddy, and my foot warmer. He protects us and watches the kids. This puppy is going to make him nuts! ๐
She jumps all over him, nibbles at his ears and eats his food. He looks at her like he could squash her in a second but tolerates her.
Our littlest 2 and this puppy are best friends. They lay on the floor with her, play dress up, and attempt to take her for walks…
There is nothing funnier then a 5lb dog dragging a bossy 2 1/2 year old princess around the duck pond.
They take her swimming and laugh when she dries off in the dirt. Then do it all over again. It is so funny to look at this bearded, big eyebrow bog, that looks more like a Muppet then a dog, and call her such a proper name as Eleanor. I think it makes me love her more!
But pretty much Eleanor fits right in… The Blue Bell addiction made her part of the family!
P.S. What is it with her bringing dead mice and moles to my back door?????? What is up with that?! My big dog has never, ever, done that. I am scared the kids will see them first, and so I have to check everyday to see what she has found. Ewwww!

I don’t know much about dogs, but when cats do it, they r trying to show u how good a hunter they r. I don’t know how to get them to stop though. U need a dog whisperer!

When cats, or dogs, bring you dead mice, moles, birds, etc., they are bringing you a gift, to show that they love you. Yes, its not a gift we want, but they don’t get that. In the wild it would mean they are sharing their food with you. They don’t do that for just anyone. ๐

Our dog Daisy (terrier breed), used to bring us frogs and lizards. We had a dog door so she would bring them in the house. Of course I would scream and yell for her to get them out of the house. It was just her way to show us she loved us. It was like a present!

I had a dog that did that and the vet told us that it was her way of saying here is a gift I am earning my keep. Yes it is a little yuck, but it is nice to know that they love you back enough to bring you that present. So cherish you gift as you take it to the trash and know she loves y’all back.

Tiffany the smaller schnauzers were originally bred for ratting around the house and barns! Our yorkie kills bugs and all sorts of things and brings them to show us what a good job she did!!

We have a schnauzer too and he does the same. He is FULL of personality and can be very bossy with our much larger 2nd dog – quite frankly I dont know why she puts up with it! If Eleanor is bringing you “presents” it is only done out of love, but I dont like receiving them either. Wait until you get your first snake surprise at the back door – and you dont want to open the door to find out if it is indeed not alive.

On a different (less yucky) note – Eleanor is ADORABLE and the blue bell thing is too cute!!!

We have a mini Schnauzer, and after some research, discovered they were originally bred to be “ratters’, to rid the streets of rodents. Might explain some of the hunting instinct. ๐

I’m counting. 7 kids plus Miller plus Eleanor…..I’m guessing Paul is a kid too? (I’ll buy that) or is it that you add one for all the extras at your house all the time? (you do have the fun house)

Love Elenor! She looks alot like our Odin (Minature Schnauzer). Great dogs, a little yappy but 10 feet tall in personality. Odin is going on two. Our family has had many many Schnauzers and we all love them. They were bred for farms & to guard the wagons of the traveling salesmen..hence the yappy protection & rodent gifts. They are wonderfully loving dogs. Odin’s fur becomes curly when long but we prefer summer he has the traditional cut. You can wash the dog and take it in for a zoom groom where they only do the cut if you talk to them first. Saves a little of the cost. After that you can keep the cut yourself if you want. Just a tip we learned. You guys have saved us so much nice I can send you a tip ๐ . Enjoy her she is a cutie!
