Wow! CVS to stop selling tobacco products by October 1st of this year. In an effort to support a more healthy lifestyle they will discontinue selling cigarettes, cigars, and chewing tobacco.
CVS Caremark Corp. and other major drugstore chains have been adding clinics to their stores for several years now. Their pharmacists deliver flu shots and other immunizations, and those clinics also have been expanding the care they deliver. CEO Larry Merlo noted that conditions like those are made worse by smoking.
“We’ve come to the conclusion that cigarettes have no place in a setting where health care is being delivered,” he said.

WOW! I don’t smoke and can’t stand the smell of smoke. Regardless of my personal preferences, I imagine that CVS made a nice profit off the sale of tobacco. To stop selling it means they are truly following their mission of being a health store — regardless of what customers or money they might lose. Kudos to them for following their mission and not just the money!

That’s what I was thinking. It was millions and millions a year profit for them.

That is so awesome of them! Kinda makes sense a “pharmacy” not selling cigeretts. Just hope they don’t take candy off their shelves in support of a healthier lifestyle.

I think it’s great, but it does make you think. Ok, they sell candy and cupcakes, that’s not healthy. They sell alcohol….don’t even get me started!!! LOL!!! I do like that they want to promote a healthier lifestyle, but don’t we also have freedom of choice? It just seems more of our choices are being taken away. And, I understand the people can go get their cigs somewhere else. Just kind of makes you wonder……
