This is a REPOST from last spring, another friend and I were talking about ideas for parties so I told her I would repost it…
My dear friend had a fabulous idea for a little girls birthday party. Like all elementary school age children, her daughter and all of my girls are really into Webkinz. The little stuffed animals that you can register on line and play with.
The Mom sent out darling little invitations that asked the girls to bring any Webkinz they had, if they didn’t have one, the Birthday girl has one they could borrow.
Ahead of time my friend Kelly, sewed “beds” for the Webkinz out of fleece and tassel’s she found at Walmart. She didn’t finish them completely so the girls could work on them. Each girl picked her colors and Kelly showed them how to stuff them with batting and whip stitch them closed. A BIG hit with 8 year old girls! This is my daughter’s below, she sleeps with it and her Webkinz. They played games with the Webkinz and Kelly set up her computer to their T.V. so that it had a big screen where all the girls could see. They went to the Webkinz website and let all the girls show each other their pets online. Another BIG hit!
I was able to make Adi her cake and I think it turned out cute! This is the back, I added the Webkinz “tag” on the frog’s rear end! Kelly bought a large cookie cake from Sam’s for the base.
I used the Wilton teddy bear cake pan as a mold and used a heavy pound cake batter.
Next, I cut and shaped the teddy bear into a frog shape with a narrower nose. I used extra thick buttercream frosting to build up the back part of the frog to give him his “frog” shape. I decorated him on the cookie so I didn’t have to move him later. I made the lilly pad he is sitting on out of frosting but next time might do it out of colored chocolate. I think it turned out cute and looked just like her Webkinz!
My daughter LOVED this party and talks about it to this day.
With 7 kids I have a lot of parties to do. My kids only get a “friend” party on their even birthday’s. They get a family one every year. So they spend a good deal of time trying to think of exactly what they want to do. I also usually only have them at home as I refuse to pay the enormous amount party places charge. I have found the parties at home to be more fun for the kids although more work for me!
What have been you kids favorite birthday party ideas and theme’s? What was a success and what didn’t work out so well?!

Love, love your cake.
Last year I wrote treasure hunts for all 3 kids ( ages 3,6 and 9)
The three year olds birthday was on our vaca so I led the hunt from the house to the beach where we hid a chest full of golden plastic coins and one full of Harribos. The 6 year old loves to fly. Since it is expensive I booked a flight at Hooks Airport ( $75 for 45 minutes/3 people + pilot) – cheapest I could find) and allowed only one friend. Dad, the pilot and 2 boys got on the plane + we saw them off. Upon arrival they found a treasure hunt sign that led them to the Aviators Grill, with stops around the Airport. At the restaurant our family and the friends family surprised them and we all had lunch. One Birthday present was a globe which I used as a center piece. The cake had an airplane, landscape and a lake on it ( since the flew over Lake St. Clair)
For our daughters 9th Birthday I wrote a Halloween themed hunt ( her birthday is in October) We took them all the way around our sub, to the lake, playground and ended at our house. At the front entrance I had a treasure chest with their treats ( cup cake earings, bought at Childrens Place for $2.99/pair) and an invitation to a tea party. The girls put on fancy dresses, decorated old hats with flowers and had tea. We had made chocolate covered strawberries and fancy cupcakes. The day ended with a sleepover and movie.
All parties were inexpensive, though a little time consuming in preparation.
At Amazon you can buy treasure maps you can customize yourself. It was enough paper for all three parties. We also used cheap Halloween items from Dollar Store to hang up our clues. (put a skelleton in mailbox and let them know they are hunting off the right track)
I found some beautiful tea cupes at Goodwill for next to nothing and we can still use them today.
Those parties were the best fun we ever had.
We also refuse to pay big $$$ for the kids. The prices are unrealistic.

I love doing my sons parties at home! My oldest is 17 so we
Don’t have parties for him anymore 🙁 Our other son is having his 4th birthday party this weekend! He is obsessed with Ghostbusters so I am using that theme. Making everything homemade because you can’t find anything anywhere! We are making stay puft marshmallow man cupcakes. We made a feed Slimer game out of a old bean bag toss game. Put images of cheeseburgers on the bags and drew a big Slimer with his mouth as the hole! It’s gonna be 91 so we are filling squirt guns up with green colored water (slime) for the kids to play with. Also having a ghost hunt which are really hidden white water balloons with ghost faces colored on!
For his 2nd birthday we did a “terrible two’s” party. I made cupcake invitations with devil horns /tails! They were adorable!! We had cupcake themed decor and printed out number 2’s also with the tail/horn ! It was fun sense they are so sweet and are seeing how far they can push you at that age!
