Hi Tiffany,
I have the Brother SE400. It’s an AWESOME machine and I use it daily for my little online business. I paid this price for it last summer (July 2011) and it’s a good deal! I also recommend buying the special embroidery bobbin thread online as well–much cheaper than at JoAnn, etc.
Hope you can get it!!
Lora.

Lora, can you do long names on this one? That is the only thing I am worried about.
Lora says
You can, but it’s tricky as you have to adjust the hoop. I haven’t mastered that yet. But, I use it a ton for appliques and monogrammed letters. I will say, though, that I am already looking to upgrade to a bigger hoop, like 6×10 so I can embroider bigger designs and names, with ease. The sewing machine itself is awesome too–SO much easier than my old one.

I have an embroidery machine, too, that I use for my business. The size of the hoop is key. Also know that some items are more difficult than others. Things like heavier canvas bags and stretchy fabrics are tough. This will work fine for towels, baby bibs, etc.- things that are flat and easy to put in an embroidery hoop. If you get it, do a bunch of practice monograms on old stuff before you try the real deal. I buy 6 or so of the $3-4 solid beach towels at Walmart every summer and use them through the year for birthday/teacher/graduation etc. gifts after I’ve personalized them. Great birthday gift for $5. Good luck!
