I posted this on Facebook so I apologize to those who saw this there as well, but I just had to repost here today!
Last week we were heading out somewhere as a family…
This. Just. Happened. We were backing out of the driveway when Paige asks, “Isn’t Andie going with us?” Paul slams on the breaks and asks if she is serious and he starts counting children. Sure enough we are one short. I mention the last time I had seen her she was headed upstairs to look for shoes.
He jumps out of the car and a minute later he texts me this picture… (the one above) She is buck naked (with shoes on) watching My Little Pony in the playroom!! He brings her to the car fully clothed and announces to the big kids, “next time I say get the kids in the car, this is the one I am talking about!”
Today as we left for a day trip, I counted and counted a few more times to make sure we had everyone. I am going to have to say, we have not left a kid anywhere, well that I can remember anyway!
Have you left a kid behind?

No.
I have only one, but my mother had 7.
I grew up in southwest houston early 70’s.
At the corner of s. main and s. post oak there was a kmart store we shopped their a lot.
My mom was a heavy couponer even back then and thats where I learned to coupon shop, but back to the story; well it was a normal family shopping trip to kmart, when we were done the car was loaded with the goods as usual from the trunk to the back seat of the 1974 Chrysler Plymouth Dodge and each kid holding on to the extra bags. Well we head home pull up in the driveway unload the car as we’re putting the groceries, home goods and clothing away mom pulls an outfit out of her bag and suddenly there was chaos…Where’s Josette! Where’s Josette! She remembered that something didn’t get loaded into the car that day her 4 year old daughter. I just know this we where in the house and then we were back infront of the Kmart store. because that’s how fast it happened. We went inside to inquire about the little one and all eye’s were on my mother and the manager said is this your little girl? She was sitting in the customer service office which was a little booth sitting in the front of the store near the registers, eating a popsicle and singing for the workers, just as happy as can be. The manager said we asked her name and she said “stinky dinky.” Because when you have 6 older siblings you will get a special name, lol!!! They asked her what was her mothers name and I quote she said “momma.” This started the revolution of everyone better know their name, address, telephone number, birthday, their momma’s whole name including grandpa and grandmothers full name d.o.b, ssn and this house of kids were going through a CIA debriefing every week, before we went on another coupon adventure. There were no more nicknames and no child ever got left behind again.

Fortunately I haven’t done it yet! But when I was growing up my parentshad good friends who were older when they had kids, and they were notorious for either leaving one home asleep on Sunday mornings or one at church when it was over.
Kudos for actually filtering what was said from the back of car! I know I am guilty of not doing that, only to get places and be told mom I told you she had on differsnt shoes!

No, it hasn’t happened to me yet! However, I have gotten halfway to work and realized that I never stopped off at the babysitters house. The baby was still in the backseat and I had to turn around and go back. My mind was definitely on other things.

I never left one behind but it may have something to do with that I was left at home once when I was 4yrs old. I remember calling my grandma and her freaking out because everybody was at her house and looking for me. They lost me but not there…..LOL

I haven’t left one behind (yet) but it is one of my biggest fears. I brought my twins home when my oldest was only 15 months old. I was so scared of leaving one in the car or in the cart that I got into a routine of always counting them. When I get in the drivers seat I look back and count 1,2,3 out loud. Same when we get in the house. They are 10,10 and 11 now and I still count them and they “know” their number because it is in birth order!..lol

When my niece was a baby, my brother would put the diaper bag in the front seat next to his things because he was so afraid he might accidentally leave her in the car. He was paranoid about that, but at least he had a system!
