I did this yesterday. I wasn’t brave enough to try it without the fillers though. First, I bought the Girlie Nails for $3 and used the $1 coupon for them that is on the Family Dollar website. That’s an even better moneymaker deal than the Suddenly Salad. Then I rolled that $3 Family Dollar coupon to buy the Girlie Nails a second time.
Had to go to three stores before finding any Suddenly Salad. Then bought that twice. I have one $5 Family Dollar coupon left over that I have not used yet, but it has an expiration date of 8/3/13. (The $3 coupon for buying the Girlie Nails was going to expire in the middle of June.) I used the $3 Tropicana OJ and the $.88 6-pack candy bars as my fillers and made sure my total due after all coupons, including the Family Dollars, came to at least the amount of the Family Dollars coupon I was supposed to receive with that transaction. Everything worked smoothly.
I’d also like to point out that as the cashier scans the coupons, they list on the screen, but they do not come off of the total until the cashier hits the final button to finish the transaction. (In one transaction, the cashier scanned the $3 Family Dollars coupon first, then the FD store coupons for the OJ and the candy and these coupons did not take off the correct amount. Since these FD coupons deduct as a percentage of those items, I think we can assume that it is important to wait until last to hand the cashier your FD $3 or $5 coupon last so they won’t affect your other coupon amounts.) Please remember that this is new to the cashiers so they are still learning how this works too!
I paid out approximately $20 OOP and have a $5 coupon to use later. So, for about $15, I got two Girlie Nails, six Suddenly Salads, four OJs, and six 6-packs of candy by stopping at the Family Dollar stores I happened to pass while I was going to a doctor’s appointment.
