I really can’t believe that you guys actually listen to anything that I say! I know I promised to post the results today but I didn’t think you guys would call me on it!
Like I said the results were a little surprising…..
The store brand is $1.77 on the Honey Nut Cheerios and the National Band is $3.99 (without coupons) In this taste test the STORE BRAND WON!
The Lucky Charms National brand is $2.94 and the store brand is $1.77, in this taste test the STORE BRAND WON!
The Oreos National Brand are $2.98, the store brand is $2.19, in this taste the OREO National Brand WON! (I totally agree on this one!)
Plus, we also did a chips taste test, a grahams cracker taste test and a cracker taste test, in these 3 tests they all TIED.
Basically, I can buy store brands all day long and no one would complain unless it was Oreos! I might have saved some money with this little activity!
Interestingly enough, I learned last year at a walk through at my grocery store with corporate, that many of the store brand products are actually manufactured at the same plants as the national brands. Only the packaging is different!
I REALLY loved everyone suggesting what store products they like and don’t like!! According to your comments:
~ We love Kroger brand dry Italian dressing mix (even more than the national brands), also their four cheese mac n’ cheese is really good and only $.59 a box. At Safeway, their store brand chicken nuggets are so good but so expensive, so I stock up when their on sale. Also, we buy off brand Lucky charms anywhere they’re cheaper since my kids can never tell a difference.
~ HEB Meatballs are great!
I don’t usually do generics/store brand but wal mart’s version of Heinz 57 is better than the original and Kroger’s bran flakes I like better than anyone else’s and they go on sale sometimes making them an even better deal. Usually raisin bran is too sweet for me. I like raisins but not too many. Kroger’s bran flakes plus a little bit of raisins is perfect.
~ The one thing I will not go generic on is chocolate sauce! It MUST be Hershey’s. There is no comparison!
~ I think my favorite store brand is safeway, unfornuatley I think it can sometimes be priced like a national brand. They have the best canned tunafish I have ever had, chunky. Target I think has the worst. Their tomatoe sauce is horrible, even if I add my own spices. So when its I can get it cheap I still wont buy it.
~ I usally dont like store brand oreos either but I was making dirt dessert for my kids the other day so I bought wal mart store brand ones because they would just be crumbled and mixed with other stuff anyway but we had some left whole and I tried one it was a double stuffed one and it was really really good. If you never tried them before
~ I buy store brand on a lot of stuff I would say the only things I can think of off the top of my head that I don’t buy store brand is Tea for us it has to be luzianne and cream cheese has to be pilly.
~ We don’t have an actual Kroger here but we do have an affiliate of theirs here. I haven’t really had any issues with any of the store brand products, but I will say that their White Cake Mix is the best!
The kids and I had a blast! Thanks for playing along!!

I completely agree here. I haven’t found many HEB brand items that I wouldn’t buy again. Their chips are really good too.

A friend of mines mom use to buy the name brand cereal once and put the generic bag in the name brand boxes so her family wouldn’t complain that they taste different and they never knew….pretty smart and funny…this made me think of it.

Nothing tastes like an actual Oreo. But we buy HEB Honey Nut all the time!

I do most of my shopping at Kroger and Target and occasionally Walmart. I also buy mostly store brand products because it saves me so much money. I can honestly say that there are very few things I’ve come across that the national brand was really better. I agree with all of you on the Oreos and so does my 6 year old son, who is the primary Oreo eater in our house. Nobody in my house cares whether cereal is name brand or not. Now, I do have to say that canned beans (Chili hot or baked), I only buy Bush’s because they are the best and I’ve tried the store versions. I also don’t like any of the store brand versions of Doritos. Those are three of the few I’ve found that I actually prefer national brands and it’s a very short list.

Thanks Tiffany!! ;). I need to TEXT the results to the Hubby because he can’t wait a whole week until he’s home from his missions trip to get the results!! Haha!! Gotta love him!
I completely agree about the Oreos, too! I will be conducting a taste test next week, can’t wait! :). THANK YOU for all you do! Have a great week!

I only buy store brand waffles. I hate the Eggo ones. They taste so sugary that it’s unbearable!

Krogers brands are good EXCEPT their potato chips! Ick!

Too funny! My friend Vicki buys Walmart brand steak sauce and refills her A-1 sauce bottle so her husband wont complain! He hasnt figured it out so far lol. As far as ketchup goes, the store brands do not compare to Heinz! It is the only ketchup we will buy.
