Our commitment to cut down on the amount that we eat out this summer has not gone as well as we planned. In fact, I am starting to think that I might be able to write a book on “How to ruin your food budget, in 1 easy step… Eat Out More!”
We ate at Freebirds tonight.
I have eaten there before, and we have eaten as a family at Chipolte often, but for my husband a burrito full of veggies and beans is not exactly what he was hoping for dinner. Not wanting fast food and not wanting to spend $75 (that is what it costs for a family of 9 at a “sit down” restaurant) we were limited.
Magically we ended up in front of Freebirds. “What the heck, I can’t get any hungrier” my husband says.
We walk in and immediately have the kids stake out a table for us, while we order. They have a chalk board that lists all the specials. There were so many I could not tell which one was good for a Wednesday night.
“What is the special for Wednesday?” Paul asked guilty faced. We have broken our “no eating out” pledge and are doing it WITHOUT a coupon. Oh the horror!
“They are all the specials” Little miss cute teenager says.
“So you can stack all the specials together?” Paul asks?
I nudge him and explain they are not store & manufacturer coupons. There is no stacking with Wednesday night specials.
Little miss cute teenager is a savvy shopper herself, and corrects me by pulling out the Freebird “special policy” and showing me where indeed they DO all stack! Oh happy day!
We quickly order 6 kids meals, 3 Freebird burritos, super size one of them, 7 waters and 1 soda, before she changes her mind!
I walk up to the counter to pay, and our total was……
wait for it……..
$19!!!
Sweet! Kids eat free from 4 to 7:30, no limit ( hello, that was made for us, I am sure they will change the rules, they were not planning on anyone walking in with that many kids :)) Freebird burritos were 2 for $10 and $5 each after that, soda was $.99 on Wednesday’s and Pauls super size was on special for $2.50. They all stacked!
“We should eat here every night.” Paul says, “No dishes to do, nothing! I think it even costs less then if we made it at home.”
“No way, who are you talking to? A bunch of beans, cheese and tortillas, I have this at $8 bucks tops!” I challenge.
“Prove it! If you do it, I do the dishes” Paul says.
“Your on!!” I say.
And that, my friends, is how I got tricked into making dinner this week!
** We went to the Freebirds by The Woodlands mall. They have the BEST deals! Call ahead to your store to see if they are offering the same deals before you go!
Ivy says
AND they have loyalty card. You get free stuff the more you eat there. Awesome!!
Darla says
Loyalty Card? Seriously? If the found is reasonably priced; what could the Loyalty card give? (0:
Diane says
I love your stories!!!! We’ll have to check this place out!
Tonya l says
hahaha… every time I login to online banking and see restaurant after restaurant on my statement, I swear we are going to stop eating out…hasn’t happened yet. Love getting good deals at restaurants!
Leslie says
Could that be any more awesome?? I don’t think so. I had someone look at me funny once when I said Jack in the Box is soo expensive! When there are lots of kids, it adds up FAST!
Tiffany says
Yes and Chick Fil A… OMGosh! We spend $40 on fast food in there!
Lindsey says
I’ve only eaten at Freebirds once, and that’s the location I was at. Everyone there was so nice and the food was really good.
Darla says
Sweeeeeeeeet!!!!!!

My daughter’s friends mother asked her what she wanted to eat at Whataburger and she told her that she had “never” been there (my daughter is 14) because I say it’s too expensive and her friends mother said, “WHAT…too expensive – it’s fast food”!
Tiffany says
Thats another one also, Whataburger is also pretty expensive for fast food 🙂 My husband loves it.
Renee says
Tiffany, thank you for the post. I live in Beaumont and we are about to get one of these. I have never eaten at one but I will definately try it since they offer good deals.
kristi says
yes be sure you get one of their cards for every few you buy you get free ones!! i was sooo happy when they built that one there me and my husband used to drive to college station just to get them lol
Paige says
I have eaten at the Woodlands Mall Freebirds 3 times this week – twice by myself during a shopping break! Love it!
Crystal says
We go at least once a week for the same reason…kids eat free! I feel much less guilty about buying a meal they may or may not eat if I don’t actually have to pay for it. Plus, we have the loyalty card so every few weeks we get a meal free. Love Freebirds!
Crystal says
Oh, and another place to check kids eat free is Texadelphia and Firehouse. I know both have kids eat free on Sunday and I think Texadelphia does it one night during the week- although it’s only 2 kids per adult so wouldn’t work for all of you…
Kaitlin says
So, is it Kids Eat Free every night or just on Wednesdays? We will definitely be doing this! (And, the loyalty cards are one burrito or one t-shirt free per 10 burritos purchased).
Tiffany says
I am not sure! It looked like every night! I would just call to check
Amanda says
I’ve eaten there on a lunch break earlier this year, I went to the one on I10 near the Toys R Us on Bunkerhill, I remember because I was @ Toys R Us buying birthday presents for my little girl. I love it, I think I ate for like $5 and got super fool and I got to to try out all of thier sauces. I did not know that kids eat free, so I will be going back there w/ the family for dinner.
Heather Hazen says
They should hook you up with free food for the post! LOL
Tiffany says
Seriously!!
P.S. Thanks for saying that actually that made me think… I don’t want anyone to think I was paid by them or anything for writing that! I would always add a disclaimer if someone did or if I was in anyway compensated for writing something like that! Just FYI.
Barbara P says
I’m so glad you did this post. We JUST went there last night after being in The Woodlands for an appt.
Kids eat FREE Mon–Fri if I remember correctly. I was great and delicious!
Paisley says
Much happier story than the movie theater! lol I tease, I tease! My other half is outta town on business tonight so I’m headed to Freebirds!!!
I had such a rough day of couponing! I came home with around $400 worth of merch for under $10 but all of the hours in different stores, dirty looks from other custies in line and frustrated cashiers takes its toll!! My stockpile is better than prozac!
