With all the kids home for summer – it’s a fun time to surprise them with special treats. (Nothing breaks up a Monopoly fight quite like announcing “KIDS… who wants DESSERT!?!”)
This Creamsicle Jello Cake is a cool treat that is SUPER easy to whip up. (Plus it tastes like an orange creamsicle – and who doesn’t LOVE those??)
The best part is – you only need 3 basic ingredients to enjoy this sweet chilled cake on a hot summer evening.

Creamsicle Jello Cake
To make this cake you need:
- Boxed cake mix, prepared as directed (I used an orange cake – but yellow or white cake is okay too, if that’s what’s in your pantry.)
- Small package of orange gelatin
- Tub of whipped topping

Directions:
- Start by making the cake according to the box directions. Let it completely cool after it comes out of the oven (about an hour).
- When it’s completely cool, use the bottom of one of your hand mixer beaters to poke holes all over the cake. You could also use a big serving fork.
- Meanwhile, empty the package of orange gelatin into a small bowl. Boil 1 cup of water and pour it over the gelatin.
- Stir to dissolve and then add 1 cup of cold water, stirring to cool.
- Pour the jello over the cake, letting it seep into the holes especially.
- Use a knife to go around the cake, loosening it from the edge of the pan a little. Then stick it in the fridge for 2 hours to firm up.
- Once the cake is chilled, take it out of the fridge and spread whipped topping on it. Serve cold!
