When you have 6 siblings you don’t often have your own room, or a lot of space for your things. You learn to share and learn to be o.k. with people touching your things.
This is Emma’s precious pile of things that were dear to her. They were books. All kinds of books. Emma was an avid reader, she loved more then anything to read. Emma also kept every book I ever gave to her, and shared them with her siblings and friends. We have shelves full of books that she and I read.
This is Emma this spring reading “Unbroken” at the ball park while Rush played baseball. I had just finished reading it, and handed it off to her. She loved this book so much, and loved the movie as well.
Emma wanted everyone to love to read as much as she did, she was always trying to talk people into reading a book she had just read. She gave her siblings her books to read, and tried to instill in them a love of reading. Emma read to them at night, almost every night.
This is Emma this summer, one of the last pictures we have of her, and she is reading. Listening to music and reading. How she did that at the same time I will never know, I can’t do it. This is how I miss seeing her, with a book in her hand.
We are collecting books in Emma’s name, to pass along to others in hopes of instilling a love of reading. Reading is place you can go, to find some quiet, to use your imagination and discover new things.
We would encourage people to donate books with Emma’s name inside, or like our sweet friends The Pratt’s, build a Little Free Library in their yard to share books with neighbors and friends.

How you can help:
In just a few weeks we will have our own Little Free Library on our street, made specially for Emma. We will be buying and collecting books to keep it full.
Our church is collecting books this week and next week in Emma’s name to donate to DePelchin Children’s center for teens for Christmas. Teens are often overlooked and we want to gift them with Emma’s favorite books, that they may learn to love to read as much as she did.
Currently Amazon is offering 25% off and one book when you check out and use coupon code 25OFFBOOK .
If you want to order a book in Emma’s name and have it sent to us, we will make sure it gets to a DePelchin Teen, or Emma’s Little Free Library.

<3 Reading is such a wonderful legacy. I have a friend at the Friends of Houston Public Library. They have recently joined efforts w/ the Barbara Bush foundation. FHPL give books to teachers & educators free at certain times of the year. I don't mind making introductions.
