Today we are going talk about Target! Walmart took an entire day, so I figure we need to do the same thing with Target!
Who loves Target?! I DO!!!! Problem is I love it so much I can’t get out of there with what I came in for… I usually wander around and end up with a ton more items then planned on…
What kind of things do you need to know about Target?
If you have missed any of the days, you can check them out below:

Let’s talk about the difference between the Walmart coupon policy and the Target coupon policy…
There were some big changes in 2012 to the Target coupon policy. This is the coupon policy ONLY not the ad match policy.
At this point the Walmart coupon policy in my opinion is much better as far as not making it complicated. Target wins because of the mobil and Target store coupons and having more options.
Target adjusts down coupons and not giving overage, Walmart gives overage.
The 2012 biggest changes for Target:
- Limit of 4 identical coupons per household, per day (unless otherwise noted on coupon).
- Returns of items purchased using Manufacturer Coupons may receive coupon value returned in the form of a Target GiftCard.
Target stores coupon policy
Manufacturer and Target Coupons:
- Target accepts one Manufacturer Coupon and one Target Coupon for the same item (unless prohibited by either coupon).
- Sadly Walmart does not have Walmart store coupon
- We reserve the right to accept, refuse, or limit the use of any coupon.
- Limit of 4 identical coupons per household, per day (unless otherwise noted on coupon).
- Walmart does not have a limit (after 40 a CSM will be needed to turn the key)
- All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier during checkout.
- Item purchased must match the coupon description (brand, size, quantity, color, flavor, etc.).
- Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
- If coupon value exceeds the price of the item, the excess may be given to the customer as cash or applied toward the basket purchase.
- We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.
- If coupon value exceeds the price of the item, the excess may be given to the customer as cash or applied toward the basket purchase.
- These guidelines apply to all coupons accepted at Target (Color Checkout Coupons, Internet Coupons, •Mobile Coupons, Mailed Coupons, Coupons from Newspapers and Magazines, etc.).
- Great Value, Marketside, Equate, Parents Choice, and World Table coupons have no cash value and are ineligible for cash back or application to the basket purchase.
I really love Target because of their mobil coupons and the ability to STACK coupons with other coupons. Remember on one of the first days we talked about “stacking coupons” which means using a manufacturer coupon and a store coupon on one item? Well you can do that at Target! A LOT!
You can sign up for Target mobil coupons by going HERE or googling “Target Mobil Coupons”
Coupons come weekly usually on Saturday, sometimes on Sunday and you can always text the word OFFERS to 827438 you will get a text back with a link to the coupons. You show the coupons on your phone to the cashier, they will scan your phone and the coupon comes off your total.
These mobil Coupons are a 1 time use coupon, and they can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. Since they are Target coupons, you can’t stack a manufacturer coupon, a Target paper coupon and the mobil coupon. You need to choose which Target coupon you want to use for the same item.
Cartwheel is an app you can download to your phone. It works by sharing your offers that you wish to redeem or that you do redeem on your Facebook Timeline. You can use the Cartwheel Program on your phone or online. To use it on your phone, you can access it through the FREE Target app.
When you get to the Cartwheel page, there will be a ton of offers available to you. Check them all out and select up to 10 that you would like to use. If this is the first time you are using the program, you are only allotted 10 savings cards you can use. You gain one more slot by each Facebook friend you have that uses the Target Cartwheel program.
If you use your phone, all you have to do is have them scan the barcode from your phone at check out to receive your savings. If you don’t have a smart phone, you can print your Cartwheel barcode from the website. You can redeem each Cartwheel Card up to 4 times in 1 transaction. You can do 6 Cartwheel transactions per day. The Cartwheel discount will also stack with Target coupons and manufacturer coupons!
Always find someone who is awesome at Target and follow them! My favorite to follow is @targetfanatic <—- Follow her! She gave us her top 5-6 tips for shopping and getting the best deal at Target.
1. Sign up for mobil coupons – we talked about this last post.
2. Use Cartwheel – we chatted about this one as well!
3. Bring useable bags – Most Targets will give you $.05 when you bring your bag.
4. Get a Red Card – There are two types: a debit and a credit card. Both will save you 5 percent off purchases, guarantee free shipping for every online order, and Target will donate 1 percent of all REDcard purchases to education. The cards also give you 30 extra days to make returns. The debit card is linked to your checking account and the credit card has no annual fee. The APR for the credit card varies depending on your credit worthiness, so if you carry a balance the 5 percent discount may not be worth it.
5. Check End Caps for Clearance – Target has always placed clearance on the end caps. Mine are always in the back on end caps, so keep your eyes open!
6. Check out gift card deals to use coupons with – This is the perfect storm at Target, we are going to talk about this in the next post!
OK… so just like Walmart, Target has a price match policy as well! Here are the highlights…
We’ll match the price if you buy a qualifying item at Target or CityTarget stores then find the identical item for less in the following week’s Target weekly ad or within seven days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad. Price match may be requested prior to your purchase. Simply bring in proof of the current lower price, your original receipt and we’ll match the price at the Guest Service Desk.
For matching competitor ads, including catalogs, the retail price must be shown in the competitor’s advertisement and must be valid the day the price match is requested. For matching Target.com, the retail price must be shown on the Target.com website and must be valid at the time the price match is requested. Target.com pricing must be validated by a Target team member.
Online competitor matching is limited to items sold on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, and BabiesRUs.com by the site owner
Limit of one competitor online price match per identical item per guest
A guest can use coupons when price matching per Target’s normal coupon policy. When the guest presents a coupon(s), these steps will be followed:
Manufacturer coupons: manufacturer coupons will be applied after the price match is made
Target and Cartwheel coupons: Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s price.
Combining both Target, Cartwheel and manufacturer coupons: the Target and Cartwheel coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target and Cartwheel coupons have been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s price. Once the price match is made the manufacturer coupon will be applied.
