Today is the first day of spring break for my kids. We are not going anywhere exciting this week and plan on getting some housework done along with some badly needed yard work. Not exactly what my kids had in mind as we usually go camping.
This morning we offered them a $25 challenge at the mall. When everyones chores were done we would give them each $25 and see who find the best deal. The little kids were with me and the 3 older kids on their own. The winner gets $25 to spend later in the week at the mall.
I am going to need your help deciding who won!
#1 – 12 Year old girl – Total spent $23.06
- Shirt from Forever Twenty-One $7.80
- 9 Pairs of Socks from PayLess $11
- Earrings From Claires $4.80
- Free Chocolate from Godiva $3
#2 – 14 Year old girl – Total Spent $10
- Used game from Game Stop $10
* She rationalized that she bought something for EVERYONE and that the rest of the money she is saving or using to buy popcorn for when they play the game…
#3 – 4 little kids and me – Total Spent – $25.80
- Free Bath & Body Works Lotion $3.50
- Free Godiva Chocolate $3
- 3 Shirts from Forever Twenty-One $3.80 each
- 2 Leggings from Forever Twenty-One $5.80 each
- 1 Tank Top $2.80
* Plus we did a $5 survey in the mall, so we actually had $30 to spend 🙂
#4 – 16 Year Old Boy – Total Spent $25
- Shirt from Pac Sun $19.99
- Socks from Pac Sun $7.99
* He is arguing quality over quantity!
OK, so who do you think won? Just leave a comment and some lucky kid wins $25. 🙂 Or 4 little kids get to share something!

Part comedian, part Dad, part athlete. He will boss around your children while they play ball.
Just as angelic as she looks, this girl could easily raise a Village by herself, and all the children would grow up to be President.
Self proclaimed, she would be a webkinz dog. Because, "they're cute, and puppies are too. And they're sweet and they always get along with other puppies."
This mini-Martha Stewart can handle ANY craft you send her way. She isn't all bows and rainbows, she's got karate kid moves!
Not "Pick-Me-Up" like caffeine, she wants you to pick her up! AND NOW!
Anything that can be destroyed WILL be destroyed!
Practically Perfect in Every Way for now! Nicknamed "The Panda" she is rolly polly and lives by the motto, "the little one, is KING!"
The resident Labradoodle, Miller got his name because Mom won and got to name the baby! Need something chewed up? He'll take care of it. Especially if it's expensive..
The Queen and the little ones definately won!
Gotta go with #1. Under budget and still managed to come away with good stuff. Though I like your 14 year olds rationalization. 🙂
I say the 14 yr old girl wins if she indeed bought a game everyone would play! =) Awesome big sister. AND she still has $10 left.
Everyone did a great job! =)
I say you and the younger ones for sure. 2nd place 12 yr old girl #1
I say your 12 year old. She actually really tried to complete the challenge. 4 little ones had mom with them and a extra $5. So I say #1
I would say number #1 it seems she got more for her money . But my husband says #4 because he’s right about quality .
12 year old sounds like she really took it serious and came out under budget! But I love the fact that the 14 year old bought something for everyone!
I say the 12 year old wins though. (2nd place for your 14 year old, she should get a prize also 😉 )
Love that you are putting the challenge out there for the kids~ You and the babies definitely rocked it!
#2 – 14 Year old girl – Total Spent $10
Have To LOVE her reasoning!
I am impressed with 12 yo child’s skills on her own! She even had the free Godiva chocolate (like you guys).
Yeah we all signed up for the monthly freebie and she is the only ones who remembers to do it!
Love #2 thought process something to do later as long as the other $10 goes to what they say. #1 rocked it out with what she got little of need and wants but hands down momma and 4 little ones in the mall saving and earning money has got to be the winner!
#1. Great idea. I can’t wait until my kids are out of school so we can do this.
3 littles and a big…for being able to be completely dressed for $25. All others cannot walk out of house like that!!
The 14 year old sounds like such a sweet heart:) The one who does for others should reap great rewards!
I pick #2. She didn’t spend just for the sake of a good deal. A lesson that is hard for me to figure out sometimes.
#1-12 yr old as she seemed to have the biggest bang of the buck & under budget! Next the 14 year old however it would be more concrete if we knew which game she purchased to know if she truly got a good deal (; love her team thinking thoug! Next it would be you & the littles as ya’ll did great but went over budget even though you had the extra $5 I know most of the time to do those mall surveys you need to be of age which I believe may of been an unfair advantage to the others as they probably couldn’t of done it.
I would say #3 wins but since they had your help I say #1 should win! But I do like that #2 bought something for everyone!
All did well, but #3 is the winner
i say #2 frugal and considerate for the whole family…..plus she just might score a good bargin for money left
#1 She really took the challenge to heart. She got a lot for her money. And she had to do it on her own. Give her the prize.
I say #1 the 12 year old. She did a great job and came in under budget.
#1! She did a great job of bargain-hunting in various stores, got a bunch of stuff, and stayed under budget!
The 12 year old. No! The 14 year old! No! The little kids! No! I don’t know!
I love this, my 2 kids love to find a great deal and getting the most for there money. I would have to say #1 because she stayed under budget and took the challage to heart. You and the little ones did great to but I love at her age she did the best. but look like you got some great kids. We as mom dont hear it very offen but well done. Great lesson
The little ones 🙂
#1 really put a lot of thought into it, so I go with her as the winner. My 12 year old would have bought a video game! 😀
#3 is the winner!
I think #2 should win, she didn’t spend money just cause she had money to spend. She bought something everyone could use and it was preowned (good choice) and she still has money left over so she can buy popcorn or other snacks!
#1 – spent under budget and got a lot of cool stuff plus a freebie
#1
#3 but they had help from the best
#1 the mall is not the best place to get great deals
Definitely #2! She saved some money for later and still got a deal on something they could all enjoy over spring break 🙂
Your 12 year old girl did awesome. Totally the winner!
Number 3 gets my vote.
#1 Gets My Vote!
